VISION QUEST TO KNOCK YOU UP (John Justen), Saturday, 13 December 2008 19:48 (fifteen years ago) link

xmas better not be cancelled I just bought a blu-ray player for G. I did not plan on it and ended up buying a more expensive one than I set out. But he's had a rough time lately and I figured he deserved it. I want to give it to him now, now, NOW! But I'll have to wait. :(

Not Everyone Can Be Tupac (Susan), Saturday, 13 December 2008 20:06 (fifteen years ago) link

John, I know for a fact that you might not have a total cancel. On a technicality.

Meat ROFL (suzy), Saturday, 13 December 2008 21:53 (fifteen years ago) link

OMG is John trying to cancel Christmas again this year? I wish he would stop that.

And I'm v. sorry that you couldn't be student nursing with me (all of you, really) - saw a vaginal birth; it was completely fantastic, gorgeous baby girl arrived.

So I didn't see a c-section b.c. it was pretty quiet on the floor, but I did get to see a LOT and it totally made my day.

Did you want to cry? I always cry when I see babies born on tv. I'm ridiculous.

Tza, you aren't going to fail.

Not Everyone Can Be Tupac (Susan), Sunday, 14 December 2008 17:00 (fifteen years ago) link

tv births make me cry, too! i don't think it's that ridiculous.

very quotatious (tehresa), Sunday, 14 December 2008 17:04 (fifteen years ago) link

Thanks to Monty Python and the fact that I have never attended a birth (aside from my own, and I was otherwise distracted), I firmly believe that all births are like this:

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 14 December 2008 17:34 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm afraid to look at that. I was there when one of my nieces was born. I did not cry then. I was just. . .amazed.

I love wrapping presents so much. It's almost as much fun as picking them out. Throughout the year I pick up little dollar trinkets - Hello Kitty pens, lip gloss - and tape them to the front of my nephew and nieces presents. Then there's the elaborate ribbon decoration. I have to spread wrapping out so I don't blow all the joy at once. I'm probably the only one who digs this as the kids have to be told to unwrap carefully so they don't lose the stuff on the front.

Xmas used to just mean a couple of extra nights to go to the bars but kids to plan for definitely changes everything. True to their wishes I loaded up on Disney franchise crap (High School Musical, Camp Rock, etc) for my nieces. G's repsonse, "Yeah, make those douchebags even richer. Good move." Whatever. It's what makes them happy.

xp Yes, I teared up a little (luckily I had a tissue strategically placed in one pocket of my scrubs - and thankfully no one was paying attention to my silliness).

gbx, I was observing with a third year med. student from U of M doing her ob/gyn rotation. She was v. nice.

Also I got to hold the baby for a few minutes, which was kind of terrific. I didn't really get to hold either of my kids right after they were born due to all the complications; I was a bit surprised by how alert this baby was.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 14 December 2008 18:13 (fifteen years ago) link

ps anyone who loves to wrap presents can come help me because I am totally teh suck at this activity.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 14 December 2008 18:14 (fifteen years ago) link

in other news i am terrified---TERRIFIED---by the prospect of my histo exam on Tuesday. And Biochem on Thurs. Prognosis is NOT good, as i sorta shat the bed on the first histo

what is my attitude (gbx), Sunday, 14 December 2008 18:15 (fifteen years ago) link

The little bit of histology we did for nursing school prep (waaaaay back in anatomy) was a bitch. All those freaking cells start to look the same (probably because they are all died purple). But YOU CAN DO IT!

Sara R-C, Sunday, 14 December 2008 18:19 (fifteen years ago) link

srsly, gbx, I have total faith.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 14 December 2008 18:19 (fifteen years ago) link

i haven't even bought any presents yet because i suck!

very quotatious (tehresa), Sunday, 14 December 2008 18:19 (fifteen years ago) link

ha, I was supposed to go shopping today with Mom and sister, but impending bad weather has moved our plans to Tuesday night. I need more stuff for A. & and in total panic about what to get for 4lex. (10 year olds apparently too old for toys, too young for anything else...)

Sara R-C, Sunday, 14 December 2008 18:21 (fifteen years ago) link

My 9-yr-old is getting a bit tricker. His tastes are becoming more narrow and expensive. So far he's getting a basketball hoop, mavericks tickets and a PSP memory card. He needs one other, small, gift to balance his numbers out with the girls. G nixed the Jackass movie on PSP as he thought he was too young. Srsly, a boy today can't handle jackass? Maybe it's better I'm not a parent.

I wonder if I should start a side business wrapping presents and writing people's college essays . .

Not Everyone Can Be Tupac (Susan), Sunday, 14 December 2008 21:03 (fifteen years ago) link

That business would be nearly recession-proof.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 14 December 2008 23:14 (fifteen years ago) link

so jordan finally took me to ihop today. for quite some time i had believed this mysterious 'ihop' to be a reference to an apple/mac product.

just1n3, Monday, 15 December 2008 03:09 (fifteen years ago) link

I kind of want to make a crack about how that would taste better, but I don't think I've ever been to IHOP, so I'm kind of boxed in here.

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 05:57 (fifteen years ago) link

tza, don't feel bad about writing slowly. Our prof gave us a ton of time to write our giant papers, and I'm taking it all and going soooooo slow; I just feel lame. Also I am writing a "reflection" essay about the labor and delivery I saw yesterday. I really, really love this prof, but I don't know how many more reflection things I can write before I go postal.

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 05:59 (fifteen years ago) link

(Part of it is that the reflections are so damned micromanaged. Answer these 5 questions! You're going to get better work from me if you let me write about what *I* think is important about "my" reflection...)

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 15 December 2008 06:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Wait, maybe you can work on the PowerPoint at work if it's slow? (I suppose you can't count on that...)

Don't feel bad; earlier tonight I was literally looking at clips of the series finale of Little House on the Prairie in order to procrastinate. (Why? I have no idea. I just suddenly remembered that THEY BLEW UP WALNUT GROVE, and I had to look and see if I had hallucinated that whole thing.)
