The Monks vids from YouTube - Classic or Dud?

I watched them all but the one featuring "Monk Chant" and "How To Do, Now" is just ridiculous. Punk rock/Kraut Rock drums lead into distorted bass Lemmy would have appreciated; they all writhe atop a fallen guitar eminating squeals of feedback making Sonic Youth redundant and boring; strange lyrics are chanted and so fun making Beefheart a bitter bitch; '60s beat kids dancing but with a look on their face that says they're not sure why.

Then I read the band's website from start to finish, laughing at some of the stories like how they "invented" feedback, and how they intentionally wanted to remove melody from music and I realize, that I am in the presence of a band that anticipated all of the dissonant music that I would come to love and do it a few years before I was born.

I sent a clip to my dad who used to have a hell of a record collection. I hope he likes it.

I sent a clip to a lifelong friend who was the punk rocker in high school to my metalhead and she responded thusly:

"and this is why I love you too! you send me awesome
shit like this. guess what just got added to my
amazon wish list?!

a totally golden nugget! Thanks."

My only regret is that it took me this long to find out about this wonderful band.

Anyone who says dud is the enemy.

eleven months pass...
I am happy that a bunch of clips from recent Monks shows have appeared on YouTube however the classic ones seem to all be gone and this makes me sad. I mean, I would pay for those videos, man...

And you can download (as in keep forever) the same clip here...

Records & songs are great and all that, classic.

But that live footage for "Oh, How to Do" and "Monk Chant" is from other planets. There is no word for the classic. Combination of beat freedom, speed frenzy, noise, and cro-mag pounding = some of the most amazing music/performance I've ever seen. Life altering. Everything cool about late 20th century rock music rolled up into a little ball and set on fire. First saw it a year a year-and-a-half, two years ago, and have yet to recover.

I put the one Monk video I was able to download back on YouTube - we'll see how long it stays up... It shows up in searches so you can find it if you desire.

Were they actually playing live on Beat Club? I know shows like that are almost always mimed but thought I heard a little feedback and there’re was a bit at the beginning where it looked like a microphone wasn’t on.
