on the 24th, Joan Jett and Andrew WK are playing at the Warsaw! It's $22 a person and it starts at 8pm. Would anyone over here be interested in attending?

Or how about Princess on Bayard St? There is a cute purple neon sign that says "Princess" in cursive and karaoke inside I think.

All you muthafuckas should go out to the Luna Lounge this Saturday and see my sweethearts straight outta the EDT, SLICK 57. G-Unit saw these boys and loves them, but I don't think he'll be there.
Go see them and tell the bassist Susan/Sam sent you and he'll feel you up. ;)

Should we go to Winnie's for karaoke? Or will it be too crowded there?
Spencer, I recommend the Isamu Noguchi and Modern Japanese Ceramics exhibit at the Japan Society.
http://www.japansociety.org/exhibit/upcoming.cfm
If you haven't been to the Noguchi museum in Queens you could do that to. They may even have a bus from the Japan Society.
http://www.noguchi.org/
Also: the Takashi Murakami public installation at Rock Center.
Other things that have been in the press: the Pulp Art exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum,
http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/visit/special_exhibitions/pulp_art/
and the America Effect at the Whitney (though I wouldn't personally recommend this last one), oh never mind, looks like it's closed anyway.

If you were Gareth, I would recommend the Stephen Shore photography exhibit at the 303 Gallery.

If you have time, take a train out to Dia Beacon.
http://www.diabeacon.org/dia/visitor/index.html
Further afield, but I think it would be very Spencerlike to see the Diane Arbus exhibit at Mount Holyoke.

Let us know what kind of vibe you're feeling for the bar call.
Here's the skinny on the Slide

and further down on the Bowery we could get a very cheesy groove on at the new Capitale

Anyway, for cultural touristm how about a low-key s/m club? I think there's one on 2nd street, called, the Marquis de Sade? Or wait, that's not the place that's now a tiki bar/restaurant is it?

How is Lucky Chang's ironic? I used to go there every Friday night for about six months!
― Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:16 (twenty years ago) link
Anyway they had $3 Anchor Steam in bottles and it was quiet enough to have a conversation without screaming and the bathrooms were relatively clean and they had 'disco fries' on the menu along with a bunch of other good food. I say fuck the hipster bar atmosphere, just hang out at a diner that serves liquor! Plus you save on tips!

I'll be in NYC from Wednesday night to Monday morning. Is anyone still around? I'm also DJing with Juan Maclean and a guy from the Rapture on thurs at Hiro Ballroom.

BONUS PICS!

Who *is* still around??
― Spencer Chow, Monday, 11 June 2007 23:20 (sixteen years ago) link
hstencil, felicity, yanc3y, lauren, p. eater. maybe geeta, daddino and nabisco. noize board people. i will be out of town until sunday.
― Yerac, Monday, 11 June 2007 23:29 (sixteen years ago) link
Spencer that sounds superb - I wish I were there!
I don't know if it's still the case but Hiro is one of the few clubs in NYC you can smoke in. Which endears me to it even if the door staff can be a little unforgiving. I had a memorable night there with ILX's own maura after which I was given a summons for peeing on a tree. So uh, be careful out there.
― Tracer Hand, Monday, 11 June 2007 23:51 (sixteen years ago) link
wow, maybe i'll go to that thursday, although i'm not a huge fan of the hiro ballroom. great decor, ridiculous drink prices and asshole security guards, blah blah. why did i miss spencer in town in 2004?
― hstencil, Monday, 11 June 2007 23:53 (sixteen years ago) link
YOU DIDN'T

Isn't it mostly free entry on the door though? And they book good stuff.
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 00:18 (sixteen years ago) link
One time I accidentally went downstairs there without whateverthefuck wristband I was supposed to have and would not be let back up the stairs no matter what I said. Nobody's phone got any reception. After a while I felt like I was in an acting exercise or a videogame. But that videogame I lost.
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 00:19 (sixteen years ago) link
yikes. i still haven't been there. roommates had a gig there once but skipped for some reason or another.
free entry is appealing, though!

half of me wants to go to this and just stay out all night until my 6 am train to philly on friday. that will probably not happen, though.
― tehresa, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 01:39 (sixteen years ago) link
Isn't Jordan supposed to be playing there that night as well, or is it the night after?
― James Redd and the Blecchs, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 02:10 (sixteen years ago) link
that is probably not a good idea, tehresa.
i have to miss thursday, have other plans now, but i'm up for anything else.
― hstencil, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 02:16 (sixteen years ago) link
since when has 'probably not a good idea' stopped me?!
― tehresa, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 02:22 (sixteen years ago) link
On the other hand, staying up all night and then getting on a train & falling asleep is probably the best way to deal with amtrak (or NJ Transit, are you changing in Trenton?).

Unfortunately, because you know how I like a club with smoking.
Not sure, I'll post when I do. Might be going to some Nylon mag party thing Wednesday night.
