Ooh, that would be fun sort of.

Can't believe they tried to sell this as a $65 PPV.

Are there any other famous examples of a guy who ducked another fighter?

Didn't Riddick Bowe throw his WBC belt in the bin rather than fight Lennox Lewis? I vaguely remember Lewis taking duck money to let Tyson fight someone else - eventually fighting him years later when he was done.

Too bad we are not seeing a repeat of what pacqiao did to that fraud hatton. Moseley deserves that treatment.

Hatton wasn't a fraud - just a good fighter who was found wanting at the very top level. Looked amazing on the way up - walking forward with lots of combos and body shots - but never looked after himself properly - bloating up 50 lbs between fights.

tbf if your name was Hitman you'd think you had a 50% chance against someone called Pacman

Guys-i was shitfaced last night. I liked hatton. But he was clearly out of his element in that fight.

Thraft of Cleveland (Bill Magill), Sunday, 8 May 2011 19:58 (twelve years ago) link

Watched this fight tonight - absolute shocker from the ref. Anyone would think he'd been told the 9-0-0 guy couldn't possibly be beaten by the 14-10-3 journeyman. Doran had already been down before being hurt another twice in the first round then the ref stops it as soon as Maxwell (that's MAX MAXWELL!) has taken two shots.

100% record forever tainted imo

the goon is in the gutter (onimo), Friday, 20 May 2011 23:58 (twelve years ago) link

He was clearly staggered and before the ref stepped in, he was basically defenseless and ripe for a real pummeling. But the ref should have given him a standing eight count first. If he still seemed glazed over, THEN consider stopping it.

Aimless, Saturday, 21 May 2011 01:04 (twelve years ago) link

in almost all professional fights, there is no standing eight count.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 21 May 2011 01:07 (twelve years ago) link

it's an ok stoppage.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 21 May 2011 01:08 (twelve years ago) link

OK. Then the ref did a decent thing there. He was gonna get creamed in about two more seconds. Getting smashed around when your defensive reflexes are gone can leave permanent brain damage.

Aimless, Saturday, 21 May 2011 01:10 (twelve years ago) link

The referee gave his opponent a standing eight count about 20 seconds earlier. Maxwell was hurt but he wasn't even given a chance. Honestly watching the way it all went down it was like someone panicked at their future title contender suddenly turning chinny and vulnerable to being stopped by a very limited boxer. Doran was hurt several times but allowed to recover and continue.

bhop compares himself to tina turner and claims that all the years of boring fights were so he could save his energy for his hard-chargin late-40s

hope HBO makes Hopkins vs. Tavoris Cloud instead of a Dawson fight.

nakhchivan, Friday, 1 July 2011 12:33 (twelve years ago) link

haye's not gonna enjoy this

Darranzhi MacKhakhala (darraghmac), Friday, 1 July 2011 12:35 (twelve years ago) link

If I can score more than 3s on Haye I'm tempted to have a fiver but really my head says no fucking way.

SB OK (Noodle Vague), Friday, 1 July 2011 15:00 (twelve years ago) link

not if there were three of him in the fuckin ring, man

Darranzhi MacKhakhala (darraghmac), Friday, 1 July 2011 15:11 (twelve years ago) link

i'm pretty sure both Klitschkos have got more than Haye but I'm pretty sure they've not been tested that hard either

SB OK (Noodle Vague), Friday, 1 July 2011 15:24 (twelve years ago) link

they won't be this weekend neither

Darranzhi MacKhakhala (darraghmac), Friday, 1 July 2011 15:25 (twelve years ago) link

Heavyweight div is basically a fucking pantomime the last 5+ years, i've got no clue nowadays

SB OK (Noodle Vague), Friday, 1 July 2011 15:26 (twelve years ago) link

klitschko proper ard nut tho innit

Haye avoided that big lad, right enough, but he'll have to fight this time

Prob be shit tho

Darranzhi MacKhakhala (darraghmac), Friday, 1 July 2011 15:29 (twelve years ago) link

Haye's going to have a painful night. Might be best to do an Audley and get out of there early

some greenzo (onimo), Friday, 1 July 2011 15:32 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i wouldn't pay to see it and i don't think any of my locals will have it. might hook up a dodgy stream if i've got nothing better on

SB OK (Noodle Vague), Friday, 1 July 2011 15:32 (twelve years ago) link

don't really care but haye is a nudnik and will enjoy the coverage if he gets sonned

nakhchivan, Friday, 1 July 2011 15:33 (twelve years ago) link

Haye kinda lives for the publicity sonned or unsonned, if he was to somehow nick this it might at least have interesting repercushions

SB OK (Noodle Vague), Friday, 1 July 2011 15:34 (twelve years ago) link

i love it when you talk druzhyna

Darranzhi MacKhakhala (darraghmac), Friday, 1 July 2011 15:35 (twelve years ago) link

I'd like Haye to win it just because the Klitschkos are even more boring than David Haye but he'll need to be gunning for the lucky punch all night. this fight is on regular HBO I believe

love in a grain elevator (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Friday, 1 July 2011 16:03 (twelve years ago) link

cool i'll check with the sweeneys have they hbo, but failing that it's the pub what a tragedy

Darranzhi MacKhakhala (darraghmac), Friday, 1 July 2011 16:34 (twelve years ago) link

i'm still trying to parse the concept of a Klitschko going 12 rounds with wee little Hayden Panettiere

one cannot conceive of the carnage

+ +, Friday, 1 July 2011 16:56 (twelve years ago) link

the '12 rounds with _______' cliche is a bit mistaken cuz if those hypothetical mismatched did happen, they wouldn't go 12 rounds

ya

nakhchivan, Friday, 1 July 2011 17:01 (twelve years ago) link

this intro is a better movie than green lantern

johnny crunch, Saturday, 2 July 2011 21:15 (twelve years ago) link

nakhchivan, Saturday, 2 July 2011 21:18 (twelve years ago) link

Haye has just completed the London marathon and is wrapped in aluminum foil.

boxall, Saturday, 2 July 2011 21:19 (twelve years ago) link
