relatively old but their remix of the a-team theme with rye rye is great

We named ourselves NGUZUNGUZU after a type of wooden canoe prow carving from the Solomon Islands. We liked the name firstly for its phonetics, when repeated rapidly it sounds like a digeridoo. And the idea of this guiding figure on our craft of sonic explorations. Something like a beacon, a navigational tool, a compass that points us in various directions.

looking for that post led me to this Moments in Love mix which I don't think has been mentioned in this thread yet: http://www.negrophonic.com/2010/moments-in-mixtape/. Not as wonderful as Perfect Lullaby but good.

rob, Monday, 9 May 2011 15:42 (2 years ago) Permalink

they made for really boring/reticent interview subjects on /rupture's radio show, but some of the tunes were great, esp. near the end.

love that moments in love mix, such a great concept

loving this stuff, btw. mixtapes aside, the "bronco" rmx is stunning.

Can anyone point me toward any other 'zouk' mixes? Preferably with 'zouk' remixes of rnb tunes like the-dream one in a perfect lullaby.

yeah, i love the "bronco" rmx, too, but "without you" edges it due to heavier drums and that goddam thumb piano, amazing sounds

And the piano, it sounds like a carnivore (contenderizer), Wednesday, 8 June 2011 06:48 (2 years ago) Permalink

their jhene "stranger" remix is very dope

This was my fav mix of theirs. Heartbroken / Moments in Love track was great. Is that an actual mix or did they just create that for the dj set?

it was kind of gratifying to hear asma say some lame stuff over the mix, but maybe she was being purposely lame and disaffected

they're back in brooklyn this weekend for the clear incarnation of ghetto gothic or whatever it is. checked the new spot last week when rizzla was guesting, i'm into it.

So I saw them again last night and all is forgiven for the kinda wack previous time I saw them they were AMAZING and then I talked with Asma about the "Body Party" video and Alan about being new uncles. ^_^

The Reverend, Monday, 17 June 2013 20:25 (3 days ago) Permalink

what was it like?

the late great, Monday, 17 June 2013 20:34 (3 days ago) Permalink

I caught them at SXSW and they were also really good. Said a nervous "you guys were badass" to female DJ whose name I don't know.

Moodles, Monday, 17 June 2013 20:45 (3 days ago) Permalink

Unlike last time I saw them they weren't playing a venue too big for them. Chop Suey is kind of unforgiving to anyone who can't fill it (that's also where I saw the underwhelming Bok Bok show a few weeks ago), whereas Barboza where they played last night because it's narrow and long is more forgiving to any size crowd. The crowd last night was really mixed and interesting and had lots of people dancing but kinda thinned out as the night went on until at 1:30 after they'd been playing for 2 hours it was just me and my friends and one random other dude still dancing which we were all kind of exasperated at cause they'd been killing it all night. But it didn't matter cause we kept dancing hard right until the end.

Trying to think of stuff they played off the top of my head...

Bwana - "Baby Let Me Finish"
a club remix of "Loveeeeeeee Song" can't remember if it was the DJ Sliink one or the Brenmar one but one of those two
B. Ames - "Vogue If Ya Nasty"
Ciara - "Wake Up No Make Up"
that crazy "Fuck U All the Time"/"Claptrap"/"Ice Rink" blend
"Cashin' Out" (not a remix)
a vogue remix of "Beez in the Trap" but not the Schwarz/Kevin Prodigy one
some Soulja Boy thing from after I stopped paying attention
that one unreleased Kingdom track with the Busta/Mariah sample
L-Vis remix of "Bring in the Katz"
A really noisy remix of "Body Party"

also a lot of grime-y stuff I didn't recognize
