Scandal had 5 singles??!! My bad, I'm only familiar with "The Warrior".

And THIS is the good version of the Jocelyn Brown song:

re: Scandal - you've probably heard "Goodbye to You" before, even if you didn't realize who it was by.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 21:52 (twelve years ago) link

Two lesser known Scandal songs that are great:

Is she still married to McEnroe?

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 22:17 (twelve years ago) link

You're right I heard "Goodbye to you"! I checked and it only hit #65 though. There's been plenty of acts listed here who even had more than one top 10, such as Glass Tiger and Corey Hart.
(x-post)

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 22:19 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I knew that about Glass Tiger and Corey Hart w/o even looking it up, but I was trying to be non-pedantic at the time.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 22:23 (twelve years ago) link

Surprised "Goodbye to You" charted that low, though. I hear it more often now than even "The Warrior".

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 22:24 (twelve years ago) link

Can't believe Corey Hart had nine Top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100!

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 22:44 (twelve years ago) link

Wow, I didn't realize it was NINE! I only remembered Sunglasses, Never Surrender and I Can't Help Falling in Love With You.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 May 2011 22:48 (twelve years ago) link

Nine? Crikey. I only know Sunglasses and Never Surrender.

Madonna wannabe E.G. Daily - "Say It, Say It"

Another Miami freestyle station favorite, but, alas, not a Top 40 hit. Neither was the sublime "Just An Illusion."

deniece williams "let's hear it for the boy"

no idea if she had more hits or not but whatevs

j lol (surm), Thursday, 5 May 2011 02:15 (twelve years ago) link

I remember the album was called Boy in the Box, but I don't remember the song at all. Nor the other one.

it's a mystery to me how anyone could hate jane child's "don't wanna fall in love"

I probably didn't at first, but overexposure at the time didn't help matters. Also, at the same time, I was turning my back on popular music and become a mopey gothy teenager with my mopey gothy teenager friends. Silly now, but important distinction then.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 5 May 2011 02:17 (twelve years ago) link

but Jane Child was totally goth -- lookit the nose ring!

Listening to all this Corey Hart stuff is making me think he was kind of an autonomous type in the 80s landscape. The closest parallels would be maybe Springfield (but he was never SERIOUS) and John Waite (but his solo career between Babys and Bad English was really too brief to make a mark). Corey Hart is kind of on his own.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 5 May 2011 02:39 (twelve years ago) link

He was a total pinup boy, which is why, like Springfield, he had time getting cred. But, boy, his attempts at seriousness suuuuucked (Springfield was a better songwriter and musician).

*he had a hard time

ginny thomas and tonic (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 May 2011 02:42 (twelve years ago) link

I'm very fond of his last hit, "A Little Love." It actually rocks!

ginny thomas and tonic (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 May 2011 02:43 (twelve years ago) link

I actually DO remember that one for some reason.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 5 May 2011 02:50 (twelve years ago) link

(watching the video and thinking "JESUS! Is there ANYONE Kenny Aronoff HASN'T drummed for?")

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 5 May 2011 02:52 (twelve years ago) link

Well, that explains why the thing even swings a little...

If the Oakey/Moroder collabo and Daryl Hall solo things count, then so do ELP meant Powell instead of Palmer for one album

I'm shocked "Just An Illusion" didn't hit the Top 40 in the US. It is such a huge and well-known hit here in Canada (and Europe according to Wiki).

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 5 May 2011 03:38 (twelve years ago) link

I only heard it (Just an Illusion) for the first time last year when someone posted it on facebook. Great great song.

I'm assuming you're talking about the song by Imagination, right?

Another classic that incredibly didn't make the US Top 40, but was a huge hit everywhere elses: Bronski Beat - "Small Town Boy".
