Fight! Fight! Fight!

Theres negatives in every situation. And while some surely eclipse and trivialize others, that doesn't mean that those negatives aren't there. I generally believe suffering is relative (don't get me wrong, this is NOT a justification of worrying about this as opposed to other things). By the same logic everyone who spends their time here complaining about bad music or the death of vinyl or whatever are wasting their time not worrying about the financial crisis, and then they're wasting it by not worrying about the homeless, and then not worrying about Sudan. . .
A few months ago someone used roughly the same attack on me because I had the audacity to ask why people find new episodes of The Simpsons funny.

I don't particularly want to argue about it, certainly not here (although I guess it beats reading vinyl vs. digital debates any day of the week).

Ahh, gotcha.

(I was amazed I never saw this image until last year, surely it's bound to become cringe-worthily ubiquitous by the end of this year)

By the way, I discovered this yesterday, but Mouth to Mouth sounds amazing when mixed with Utopia - Me Giorgio by Giorgio Moroder.

http://www.discogs.com/release/12801 is a thing of beauty. I'm not able to find it anywhere, though. I only heard it from Shed's mix for mnml ssgs [ http://mnmlssg.blogspot.com/2008/06/mnml-ssgs-mx04-shed-soloactionostgutdel.html ]

I posted this question in the "identify this tune" thread with no answer, but maybe the folks in this thread might know the answer...

Back in the 90's I saw a video on MTV, and I've never seen or heard it again. It had a house beat, on top of which a black guy did the famous monologue (don't know who originally wrote it): "When you're born, you're pink. When you're sick, you're green. When you're scared, you're white. When you're embarrassed, you're red... [And so on]. When I'm born, I'm black. When I'm sick, I'm black. When I'm scared, I'm black. When I'm embarrassed, I'm black... [etc.] And you have the guts to call me colored?!"

Does anyone know what tune this is? Also, can you tell me where this monologue originally comes from, because I've definitely heard it somewhere else too?

I have that Tyree track on vinyl/was thinking about it yesterday. Absolutely love love love it.

Well those records are gone, up to 700 for $300, and aren't with me. Dommage.

On the other hand I did get 17 records, mostly from around 2007 and before, in the mail last Sunday, although I think I need to buy new needles :(.

"Returning to Audio Werner. (Let's see if I can write this out without sinking to the depths of complaining about someone being underrated) Dude just holds it down. I just listened to Trust, which is just wonderful, stuff like this and Onandon are so full of vim and vigour, really a pleasure to listen to.

i haven't heard everything dude has done, but i like him at his most houseiest and fun ie. the perlon record, "before" (shameless and excellent "sakadat" ripoff!), les gans remix (!!!). the earlier stuff i've heard gets a bit clicky and boring imo

this record is the shiznit:

let's dissect shed's mnml ssgs mix. it's amazing how he could compile all those unknown tracks (at least to me). what's your fav track on it?

1. Abicah Soul Project - Musique De Ve
2. Barada - Glue
3. Chez Damier - Help Myself
4. Slowhouse - 003 (B2)
5. Robin Breaks - I Get Dubbed
6. Fiasco - I Just Wanna
7. DJ Genesis Presents Audra - It's U
8. X Fade - Good And Plenty Love
9. Mike Dunn - The Pressure Cooker
10. Dionne - Images
11. tresor archive 006?
12. Dajae - U Got Me Up
13. Nate Williams - Climax

mine would be 10 and 7

Got a bunch of pile of second hand records the other day, highlights include, other than a Deepchord 08 test pressing, this: http://www.discogs.com/Dan-Lui-James-Duncan-Big-Smoke-Nights-Vol-3/release/42644 A detroity, synthy saxophone techno number which really hits the spot. It should be Daniel Lui, not just Dan, though, Discogs mixed it up.

Been listening to this mix a lot lately
http://www.discogs.com/Rok-Globus-Mix-Vol-3-Sturm-Und-Drang/release/7696

It's really got a good mix of US and wierd German stuff, plenty banging, has a real nice raw 'done in one take with little pre-planning' vibe. Love it lots.

am finally sorting through a lot of 250 records i got for free way back in 2005 (it has actually been that long since I have been able to have a computer and turntables setup at the same time :-( ). i had already pulled these out for DJ use:
http://www.discogs.com/G-Man-G-Man/release/19274
http://www.discogs.com/G-Man-G-Man-II/release/19275
http://www.discogs.com/G-Man-Kushti/release/19276
http://www.discogs.com/I-f-Fucking-Consumer/release/13567

but I finally began seriously digging through the stack yesterday. So far, I have found:
http://www.discogs.com/Carl-Craig-DJ-Kicks-EP/release/24658
http://www.discogs.com/Gemini-In-My-Head-EP/release/64676
http://www.discogs.com/FSOL-Lifeforms/release/84484
http://www.discogs.com/Aphex-Twin-On/release/28060
http://www.discogs.com/AFX-Analogue-Bubblebath/release/40746

AND

http://www.discogs.com/Cmetric-Cmetric/release/1073454

I never have anything unique or interesting to say about 12"s. These are all good. I also still have another hundred to look through. Given how crappy life has been for me lately (see above, and also the thread about me not eating), this feels really, really fucking good.

Shh! It's NOT Me!, Friday, 6 February 2009 02:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Tresor is now defunct? I really enjoyed the Dan Bell and Matthew Herbert editions in the Globus series.

sam500, Friday, 6 February 2009 02:41 (fifteen years ago) link

That's great to see.

Other highlights of those 27 records I got a few weeks ago, which have reminded me of my love for capital M Minimal techno:

Mikael Stavostrand - Reduce (2XLP - missing two of the bigger tracks on the CD, I believe).

Itial by Alex Cortex - OK, but makes me curious to find other stuff he's done, so RFI, please.

And I bought Street Knowledge by Tobias, the other 3 non-titular tracks being surprisingly better than the much more ballyhooed Street Knowledge. Never cared for Tobias/NSI (actually, I straight up disliked most stuff by him) but this is really great.

I was looking for something else, and came upon this old gem, which I hadn't heard for at least 10 years:

So awesome! Too bad CJ Bolland later turned to mediocre big beat. The 1995 album where he mixed trance and drum'n'bass was still quite interesting.

I remember seeing that Dave Angel mix in the local record store around 1994, but I was always turned down by the cover which looked quite ugly, even among all the other "trippy" CGI record covers of that era.

Tuomas, Saturday, 11 April 2009 19:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Anyway, 1994 got me thinking of this tune, which after 15 years is still my favourite Mike Ink thing ever:

Never come across that Dave Angel mix before. Looks good though. I liked his K7 effort.

sam500, Monday, 13 April 2009 07:45 (fifteen years ago) link

Incidentally, I keep seeing Globetrotting in my local 2nd hand shop (for about $5). Thought it was a mix until I checked discogs just now. Has anyone heard it?

Around the time 'Tales of the unexpected' came out, the British dance press were touting him as a kind of Brit Carl Craig (eg Rudiments vs Bug in a bass bin) but that album never quite lived up to the hype. I enjoyed his R&S Classics comp though.

sam500, Monday, 13 April 2009 08:18 (fifteen years ago) link

What a great video that Osborne one is, if not only because The New Dance Show videos on youtube are arguably my favourite thing on the internet, but because that track sounds so much like it could have been played on on it.

Also, re: pier bucci. Loving his remix of Ziggy Kinder - Flipflop crash, need more techno like this.

Edward Saroyan, Monday, 13 April 2009 15:10 (fifteen years ago) link

Whoops, thought this was the bobbins 2009 thread.

formerly: mehlt (Edward Saroyan), Monday, 13 April 2009 15:12 (fifteen years ago) link

That Osborne video kind of weirds me out. It seems as exploitative as Germans calling themselves Motorcitysoul.

Your original display name will be displayed in brackets (Display Name), Monday, 13 April 2009 15:30 (fifteen years ago) link

i don't think Osborne is particularly exploitative. he's one of those few Detroit area white guys who knows whats up and works with good people and makes good music. i would be surprised if any Detroit cats had any qualms with that video.
