No. I like Queen.

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 03:22 (twenty years ago) link

Long on the list but...the fact no one mentioned Sinatra entitles him to the throne. No one shall need to defend him. No one needs to pick a fight. That said...thank you.

to Dom-I love the fucking Kinks.
to ellz-RJD2 really does suck, sorry.
and Phil "softcell"-you must live in the magnetic gay north if you haven't got disagreements from others about them. Though I personally like em'.

cs appleby (cs appleby), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 03:44 (twenty years ago) link

How about Van Morrison, especially "Brown Eyed Girl"?

John Fredland (jfredland), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 03:48 (twenty years ago) link

How about Johnny Cash? Anyone wanna hate on a dead guy?

dieblucasdie (dieblucasdie), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 03:50 (twenty years ago) link

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 03:55 (twenty years ago) link

cs appleby (cs appleby), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 04:02 (twenty years ago) link

Hi

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 06:44 (twenty years ago) link

What about classical music?

Girolamo Savonarola, Wednesday, 3 December 2003 15:29 (twenty years ago) link

I've got it, messieurs : Devo. end of the conversation...

AleXTC, Wednesday, 3 December 2003 16:02 (twenty years ago) link

I don't like most classical, I gotta admit.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 17:06 (twenty years ago) link

one year passes...
Bowie has kind of survived these threads, hasn't he? Is there anyone on ILM who does not like Bowie?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:09 (eighteen years ago) link

Somebody called?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:12 (eighteen years ago) link

do people dislike "celebration" because of its constant prescence at weddings, bar mitzvahs, etc.?
I don't like it because it's the most lifeless recording about jollity EVER.

Ian Riese-Moraine's Plateau Rouge! (Eastern Mantra), Friday, 27 May 2005 14:20 (eighteen years ago) link

Maybe we could try with one song from a band that everyone like...

I say Bronski beat - Holiday Rap !

Poison(Ivy) (PoisonIvy), Friday, 27 May 2005 14:28 (eighteen years ago) link

The Damned
Killing Joke
My Bloody Valentine
LLoyd Cole and The Commotions
Limp Bizkit

Oh wait.

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 27 May 2005 14:31 (eighteen years ago) link

How about if we narrow "Bowie" down to "Eno+Bowie"? That should do the trick, no?

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Friday, 27 May 2005 14:32 (eighteen years ago) link

I have my Bowie affections exactly backward from the ILM hivemind, it seems. (Loving "Let's Dance" and "China Girl" for example, but having no use for "Young Americans" and basically no interest in hearing "Space Oddity" ever again.)

The Mad Puffin, Friday, 27 May 2005 14:40 (eighteen years ago) link

So, what about his Eno stuff, then?

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Friday, 27 May 2005 14:42 (eighteen years ago) link

one month passes...
There is only one artist that can claim this award and that's Bob Marley. End of discussion.

Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I know lots of people who don't like that EZ-listening grass junkie

Gear! (Ill Cajun Gunsmith) (Gear!), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:38 (eighteen years ago) link

What's up with the shitty microphone feedback on Legend. fuck that dude

THE JAMES DEAN OF THE OLD TESTAMENT (ex machina), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:40 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't really like Bob Marley.

I'm bad and dirty and going to hell (nordicskilla), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:41 (eighteen years ago) link

"EZ-listening"??

anyway I suggested BM 2 years ago:

Um, Bob Marley/the Wailers?

nope

-- electric sound of jim (electricsoun...) (webmail), June 18th, 2003 1:51 AM. (electricsound) (link)

oops (Oops), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:41 (eighteen years ago) link

Gear: That doesnt change the FACT that he is the one artist most people in this world would agree on being good.

Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:41 (eighteen years ago) link

HUMOUR

Gear! (Ill Cajun Gunsmith) (Gear!), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:41 (eighteen years ago) link

B-b-b-but I hate Bob Marley, and so do most people I know!

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Can you give us a link to the worldwide survey where most people in the world agree on Bob Marley?

(I mean, Lee Perry doesn't like him, and he's Jamaican.)

Taste the Blood of Scrovula (noodle vague), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Name one artist that you would think is more popular. Please. Go on.

Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:44 (eighteen years ago) link

Beatles

Gear! (Ill Cajun Gunsmith) (Gear!), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:45 (eighteen years ago) link

The Beatles. Frank Sinatra. Elvis. However, I shall refrain from using the word FACT, as Ma Vague didn't raise no assclown.

Taste the Blood of Scrovula (noodle vague), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:45 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, them Beatles are really popular in Africa...

Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:45 (eighteen years ago) link

And young kids today dig Elvis in massive numbers? Yeah right

Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:46 (eighteen years ago) link

Prince Alla

Gear! (Ill Cajun Gunsmith) (Gear!), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:46 (eighteen years ago) link

James Brown

Gear! (Ill Cajun Gunsmith) (Gear!), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:47 (eighteen years ago) link

Salieri

Gear! (Ill Cajun Gunsmith) (Gear!), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:47 (eighteen years ago) link

No, as is well known the Beatles have no influence on any African whatsoever. In fact, they've never heard of the Beatles in Africa. I repeat my request that you bring some backup to the table before you use stupid words like FACT.

Taste the Blood of Scrovula (noodle vague), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:47 (eighteen years ago) link

Um, my parents love the Beatles so I would never say they dont have any influence on any Africans, and that wasnt my point and I think you know it.

Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:49 (eighteen years ago) link

SCIENCE!

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:49 (eighteen years ago) link

Cheap Trick

Gear! (Ill Cajun Gunsmith) (Gear!), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:49 (eighteen years ago) link

Well, my point is that using silly rhetorical tropes like "end of discussion" and "FACT" are useless in proving the truth of a claim. Also, the thread is called "Bands that EVERYONE loves" and lots of people have said quite clearly that they don't love Bob.

Taste the Blood of Scrovula (noodle vague), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:51 (eighteen years ago) link

No one in Africa gives a fuck about Marley, chump.

Michael Jackson is more popular than Marley.

THE JAMES DEAN OF THE OLD TESTAMENT (ex machina), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:53 (eighteen years ago) link

Diamanda Galas

Gear! (Ill Cajun Gunsmith) (Gear!), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:54 (eighteen years ago) link

Is it not obvious that using "silly rhetorical tropes" like the ones you mentioned is tongue in cheek? Even if I believe what I said to be true?

And I dont think the purpose of this thread was to take the title of this thread as literal as you suggest(because there never will be one band everyone loves), cmon. Just the one band most people would agree is good. Please sue me if I'm wrong.

Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Prepare to be lawyered.

THE JAMES DEAN OF THE OLD TESTAMENT (ex machina), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:57 (eighteen years ago) link

"No one in Africa gives a fuck about Marley, chump."

Too bad you're talking to someone who has spent a considerable amount of time in both East and West Africa.

Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:58 (eighteen years ago) link

is there someone/group that is popular in both India and China?
