Seeing Spz live put me off every wanting to listen to another note of their records ever again!

carrotcake.wav (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 11 December 2008 13:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Admit it, you went to that gig determined not to like it!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 11 December 2008 14:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Not true! I went to that gig as excited as could be, I wore my silver spacejacket and everything, went and got a good spot in front of one of the pillars so I could see... and, as D observed "that was the quickest I've ever seen you go from bouncey to retching in my life!" I was excited by reports that it was the best live show they'd done in years! Those reports were wrong!

But anyway, this is not the thread for this.

carrotcake.wav (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 11 December 2008 14:09 (fifteen years ago) link

Well it's still a good album.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 11 December 2008 16:23 (fifteen years ago) link

WHICH GINGER IS HOTTER?!?!?!

Hercules & LA win this by a mile too.

Bit of a slump round about #40 and I haven't heard most of the Norwegian ones but by Geir's standards that's not too bad a list!

Brother Belcher (Marcello Carlin), Friday, 12 December 2008 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

I still love that Marit Larsen album, it would be in my list definitely. Also Geir likes Sebastien Tellier! Awesome.

Matt DC, Friday, 12 December 2008 16:44 (fifteen years ago) link

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Friday, 12 December 2008 17:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Not heard the Black Kids album, are they really that bad?

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 13 December 2008 00:11 (fifteen years ago) link

The NME really, really should be all over the Gang Gang Dance record...it's their wet dream.

Mister Craig, Saturday, 13 December 2008 00:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Obviously it isn't. Maybe next year..

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 13 December 2008 01:10 (fifteen years ago) link

12 Crystal Castles Crystal Castles

^ and even this album I wouldn't put on a best-of list

have u ever seen a 77 with a butterfly door (Curt1s Stephens), Saturday, 13 December 2008 01:17 (fifteen years ago) link

apart from Q, Mojo, Word and about 5 others

I was unaware these magazines were to releasing Best of Lists for 2008; I thought they would be focusing on 1988 or 1998 as usual.

I've just had a good chuckle at the write up for the Oasis album in this poll. By 'chuckle' I mean fighting the urge to kick something violently across the room.

DavidM, Saturday, 13 December 2008 11:46 (fifteen years ago) link

only heard three of these:

portishead an obvious and effortless winner; mogwai nipping at their heels but out of breath; fucked up limping along half a mile or so behind.

m the g, Saturday, 13 December 2008 12:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 00:01 (fifteen years ago) link

there is one good album on this list and it's hercules and love affair.

although portishead's 'third' was decent enough

psychgawsple, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 01:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Third is easily the best

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 15:47 (fifteen years ago) link

So everyone vote Portishead!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 16:23 (fifteen years ago) link

justice is served!!!

psychgawsple, Thursday, 18 December 2008 00:04 (fifteen years ago) link

I am so glad that LOTP placed so high on both these polls. I feel like I accomplished something, at least.

But god ILX has some shite taste in music. Though I suppose I can blame the NME at the bottom of it all...

Ironic Erection (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 18 December 2008 00:05 (fifteen years ago) link

heh who voted Glasvegas?

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 18 December 2008 00:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 18 December 2008 13:23 (fifteen years ago) link

I wasn't aware that Spiritualized, Primal Scream, TV On The Radio, The fucking Verve, Vampire Weekend, etc. were gay icons.

Ironic Erection (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 18 December 2008 13:48 (fifteen years ago) link

I was unaware these magazines were to releasing Best of Lists for 2008; I thought they would be focusing on 1988 or 1998 as usual.

Mojo don't give a damn about 1998 or 1988. Their focus is on 1968 and perhaps 1978. :)

As for Q, they write about current music. But maybe focusing on current music that may not sound radically different from what was around in 1998. Or 1988. Or 1978. Or 1968.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 18 December 2008 13:57 (fifteen years ago) link

pretty sure the PS, Oasis and Verve votes were joke ballots

Timezilla vs Mechadistance (blueski), Thursday, 18 December 2008 14:05 (fifteen years ago) link

How can you be sure? There were a few people (elvis t) repping for the verve album when it came out) and oasis probably got a geirvote

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 18 December 2008 14:09 (fifteen years ago) link

I played the Oasis album recently, and found it wasn't bad at all.

One of those "disappointing" on first hearing, decide it's crap, then hear it again and find it's not as bad as remembered.

Heck, I even *like* it!

Mark G, Thursday, 18 December 2008 22:42 (fifteen years ago) link

next you will be thinking the NME is good after all!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 18 December 2008 22:46 (fifteen years ago) link

did you buy it?

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 19 December 2008 00:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Who, me?

Um, no not yet. I may not bother, looking at that above.
