gbx, gordon is still competitive, but the dude at work that's into it says he's maybe slipped a bit and i guess some NASCAR rule changes in recent years about how they keep score weren't favorable to gordon

boggling at the idea of "rules"

i mean obv there are rules, but like is there inside nascar nerdery going on where ppl are thinking "well gordon's a classic driver, he stays near the front and attacks late in the game when he sees an advantage. unfortunately, he's not great in the heat, and when it's 90+degrees outside hooboy he'll just slide to the back like a dew drop down a corn husk"

they tried to make it more like a 'normal' sport in an effort to attract more fans

i.e. they instituted a playoff-esque format

yeah i guess it's basically like you get points for a season, based on how you place in races....i think now they've skewed it so you get a lot more points for winning races as opposed to, say, placing 5th or something...so my impression was gordon was more of a steady-eddie type that would consistently place in the top 10 of races but not necessarily win a lot of races like jimmy johnson, so he was "penalized" by how they changed the scoring...

then obv the chase for the cup, which is kinda like the "playoffs" jordan is talking about....

i dunno, a couple people at work are really into it and so they tell me about it and i guess lots of hardcore nascar fans feel like nascar "sold out" or something

basically, i've learned that serious nascar fans are total nerds about all the minutia of the sport

homophobia is way more tied to class (or er...education?) than race surely (or at least...homophobia expressed in certain ways)

Yeah that type of the mentality make so called "straight" people use their privilege to engage in homosexual acts but then deny that they are somewhat attractive to the same gender. Why engage in something like that if you are not remotely attractive to that same person? Once again, "straight" men are just strange.

You can do whatever the hell you want behind closed doors. The thing that annoys me is those people who engage in acts and publicly decry those acts to fit into the mainstream society.

You can be attracted to people of the same sex and engage in same-sex acts, but I don't think that makes you gay unless it constitutes the full extent of your sexual preferences.

Cute Whiney. But you know as well as I do that the idea of bisexual men are seen as boogie men. They shouldn't be seen as that, but our society isn't as accepting.

Bi men are loathed even more than gay men IIRC.
