Yeah, without trying to turn this into a thing about race, I always forget just how homophobic large portions of the African-American community are.

I mean, yeah, plenty of homophobes of all races, but there is an ingrained cultural thing in the African-American community that rears its head when stuff like this happens.

communities that feel threatened demographically are usually pretty homophobic and anti-abortion. it's like a self-preservation/MUST PROCREATE AT ALL COSTS kind of thinking

Sorry guys, I'll drop it and, yeah, I guess I shouldn't have mentioned it in the first place. But to try and pretend that race has absolutely nothing to do with homophobia in hip-hop is on some pretty huge blinders on shit. Not that this is the right place to hold such a discussion, but, still.

I don't really know what is more infuriating:

- watching the social construct of hip-hop culture equated with the larger social construct of the African-American community
- watching a social attitude within that community get linked especially to both that social construct and that genetic group, even though it also exists in most every (if not every, no qualifiers) other ethnic social construct in the country
- as a member of that community, getting relegated to invisible man status by the asshole making pronouncements about me

like, there are plenty of ways to talk about homophobia in hip-hop without making a "not to be all about race, but it bums me out that this is what black people do" comment that even five seconds of thought could have led you to

Okay, its just been on my mind because I was having dinner with this weekend with a friend that lectures on these very topics and she was filling me in on the long history of homophobia in the African-American community. Iirc, my posts above clarified that homophobes were found in all sorts of groups!

I mean, my post came from a genuince place, whether it came out that way or not. I had a legitimate discussion about this the other night and I've been thinking about it since.
