mookieproof, Tuesday, 1 April 2008 23:24 (2 years ago) Permalink

To play:

Search: soccer(!), tennis, baseball, softball, squash, sailing, fishing, skiing

Destroy: racquetball, golf, equitation, swimming, motorboating, jet skiing, water skiing, scuba diving, running (really anything aerobic that has no equipment)

Oh what am I saying. I like all sports any I will play any sport. I am a sporting fule!

Good question.

I don't know all the players now but here are a few. Often I like watching players not just for being good but for being original.

Kerry Wood, obviously. He really tries but doesn't say much. I saw him hit the game tying homer in Game 7 of the 2003 NLCS over our heads onto Waveland Avneue.

Manny Ramirez. Incredibly exciting, very original. Chock-full of personality. Long eyelashes.

Jacoby Ellsbury, for the way he played in the postseason last year.

Khalil Greene. I am fascinated with the dissonance between his playing style and the way he looks like he would play. The best word I can think of to describe him is beatitude.

Stephen Drew. I liked watching him last night, he is also very understated.

Eric Byrnes. Consummate dirtbag FREAK that can play some. He is constantly doing bizarre stuff in the field, like a tweaked-out twirling girl at a Dead show. He has a reality show on Fox AZN and rides around Phoenix in a van that he calls the Shag Wagon.

Koske Fukudome. Aside from obviously being good for the Cubs he has that characteristic Japanese hitting stroke where he extends his arms really far on the follow through. It is neat that a game can be so old yet there can be new distinctive styles imported from other leagues.

There are a lot of pitchers I admire like Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson for obvious reasons, but that's all that captures my fancy for right now. I would like to watch someone who has a sick 12 to 6 curveball, any suggestions?

felicity, Saturday, 12 April 2008 18:00 (2 years ago) Permalink

felicity -- the 12-6 cv is the sickest pitch in baseball & i would recommend beckett, buchholz, burnett, chamberlain, hughes, & verlander

deeznuts, Saturday, 12 April 2008 19:33 (2 years ago) Permalink

You know who's got some baggy pants? Reed Johnson. Huh.

DeRosa: will be qualified at 6 fantasy positions by May?

felicity, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 01:25 (2 years ago) Permalink

Ok, in searching for an answer to the question of the day "WTF happened to Barry Zito?" I stumbled into Carlos Gomez's Bullpen Mechanics.

DaveR and callingalldestroyer have mentioned it here as well. I just love this kind of extreme close-up qualitative analysis to death. Now I understand why that guy in AZ said Prior will never be good again:

i love how fukudome's patience has apparently rubbed off on everyone in the cubs lineup

omar little, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 20:30 (2 years ago) Permalink

i watched one of those armchair pitching mechanic things on Bedard and his hip.
had a hard time telling if it was thoughtful analysis or unhinged speculation.

Either way those gifs are dope imo.

Watching the Pat Neshek loop is like properly listening to progressive house music.
