I'm not sure. Could go either way. But I'd like to think that you would.

Someone post a waveform!

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 15:13 (fifteen years ago) link

The 'why the fuck did they vote for that appalling shit?' factor is quite low in this list though, compared to 2006 or, worse, 2002.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 15:13 (fifteen years ago) link

Disclaimer - didn't see Kings of Leon in there, and haven't heard the Glasvegas album.

maybe not quite that bad but close enough

Yentl vs Predator (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 15:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Voted for Frightened Rabbit, which is my #2 album this year after Alopecia by Why? Can't believe they and especially Cut Copy didn't make the NME list. Nothing should surprise though, really.

Chris in Belfast, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 15:20 (fifteen years ago) link

To be fair, LotP sound like that live as well...

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 15:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Enough for me to not want to bother. :(

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 15:26 (fifteen years ago) link

do you avoid music vids on youtube?

Yentl vs Predator (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 15:29 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't avoid music vids on youtube so much as never, ever, ever watch them. I don't like music vids at the best of time and I certainly don't like them on youtube.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 15:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Voted The Gaslight Anthem, second on my personal list of 2008.

Marty Innerlogic, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 15:33 (fifteen years ago) link

santogold vs marling vs school of 7 bells

actually a surprising amount of good albums here (where surprising = "any at all")

just seeing the names of the top 5 acts is now hive-inducing though.

lex pretend, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 15:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Glasvegas are bloody awful

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 16:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Scotland's worst band of the decade: Glasvegas are bloody awful - but The View are even worse

djmartian, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 16:23 (fifteen years ago) link

i think they could be a serviceable band if they ditched that fucking singer. cannot stand him

k3vin k., Wednesday, 10 December 2008 16:25 (fifteen years ago) link

naw, theyre all shit

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 16:32 (fifteen years ago) link

bought ths nme. first time in a year. will read in the bath later. nearly everything i love this year is being ignored: m83, school of the seven bells, ne-yo, friendly fires (gets a token mention here), gang gang dance, air france's ep. are all music journalists deaf? and that's not to mention the tens of songs i think are amongst the best i've ever heard.

or something, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 17:18 (fifteen years ago) link

are all music journalists deaf?

Don't know this bunch, any good?

Mark G, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 17:23 (fifteen years ago) link

School Of Seven Bells is in there at 42 but the name and title is round the wrong way

The Biggest Event In The History Of Ethnic Comedy (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 17:29 (fifteen years ago) link

ha ha ha, I didn't even notice that! that's the best mixup since the album "His Name Is Alive" by the band "Livonia".

That's not a real LOTP .wav - they'd be much much much more sawtoothed than that.

The All-Singing All-Dancing Unstoppable Kate (Masonic Boom), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 17:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Wow I haven't listened to any of these.

Abbott of the Trapezoid Monks (Abbott), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 19:25 (fifteen years ago) link

I can remember worse NME end of the year list by the way...

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 19:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 19:40 (fifteen years ago) link

it's always been awful, it always will be awful. it's the fucking nme, what do you expect?

lex pretend, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 19:57 (fifteen years ago) link

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 20:00 (fifteen years ago) link

they're going senile. it was never good.

lex pretend, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 20:01 (fifteen years ago) link

one vote for fucked up - chemistry of common life

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 20:02 (fifteen years ago) link

a lot of senile posters on ILM then Lex

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 20:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Heh heh, thanks for the new screen name...

Is it The Lex who doesn't acknowledge the presence of any culture before 1997? Or am I mixing him up with someone else?

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 22:18 (fifteen years ago) link

friendly fires is the only album here i particularly care about

thereminimum chips (electricsound), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 22:22 (fifteen years ago) link

That Bloc Party album must be terrible to get the token no.49 slot

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 22:26 (fifteen years ago) link

^^it is

i voted for vampire weekend

you brought me home to this funky house (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 22:28 (fifteen years ago) link

school of seven bells > portishead > laura marling > santogold > hercules and love affair > hot chip > scarlett johansson

these are the only albums on the list which aren't totally worthless. it's good going, considering.

lex pretend, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 22:38 (fifteen years ago) link

No Earth, Torche, Growing , Harvey Milk or Grails no credibility.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 22:42 (fifteen years ago) link

Don't suppose (m)any will vote for it but that Spiritualized album was very good and way better than I expected.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 23:13 (fifteen years ago) link

I suppose the same can be said of the verve album

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 11 December 2008 00:04 (fifteen years ago) link

Finally got round to listening to the poxy Foals album, sounds like they've nicked all their songs off Q And Not U and slung in a bit of Pigbag for good measure. Enjoyed some of it, always been a sucker for trebly guitars and skittering drums, but I got a bit naffed off with the singer.

NickB, Thursday, 11 December 2008 09:14 (fifteen years ago) link

didnt care much for them

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 11 December 2008 12:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Seeing Spz live put me off every wanting to listen to another note of their records ever again!

carrotcake.wav (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 11 December 2008 13:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Admit it, you went to that gig determined not to like it!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 11 December 2008 14:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Not true! I went to that gig as excited as could be, I wore my silver spacejacket and everything, went and got a good spot in front of one of the pillars so I could see... and, as D observed "that was the quickest I've ever seen you go from bouncey to retching in my life!" I was excited by reports that it was the best live show they'd done in years! Those reports were wrong!

But anyway, this is not the thread for this.

carrotcake.wav (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 11 December 2008 14:09 (fifteen years ago) link

next you will be thinking the NME is good after all!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 18 December 2008 22:46 (fifteen years ago) link

did you buy it?

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 19 December 2008 00:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Who, me?

Um, no not yet. I may not bother, looking at that above.

Mark G, Friday, 19 December 2008 00:10 (fifteen years ago) link

ha, ILX likes the majority of the albums on the NME top fifty

thomp, Friday, 19 December 2008 01:50 (fifteen years ago) link

I wasn't aware that Spiritualized, Primal Scream, TV On The Radio, The fucking Verve, Vampire Weekend, etc. were gay icons.

The Verve got a whopping two votes, ready the torches and pitchforks! And you're surely the biggest Spz booster on ILX passim by a factor of ten.

Iconic Erection (sic), Friday, 19 December 2008 04:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Why on earth are you trying to make an argument about this? You're so far up my ass you can see what I had for dinner last night.

I can't stand anything in the top 5. That's why there's chocolate and vanilla, dude.

Ironic Erection (Masonic Boom), Friday, 19 December 2008 09:56 (fifteen years ago) link

you havent heard the spz album though!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 19 December 2008 14:13 (fifteen years ago) link

I heard enough of it live to know I fucking hate it!

Ironic Erection (Masonic Boom), Friday, 19 December 2008 14:22 (fifteen years ago) link

That's why there's chocolate and vanilla, dude.

which is the one that tastes like shite?
