I did my best...

Michael White, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 16:43 (sixteen years ago) link

you know how you can tell you're going to have a great day? you wake yourself up with your own laughter! i woke up a little while ago, and i was chuckling - have no recollection what i was dreaming about, but i'm in the best mood already.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 17:57 (sixteen years ago) link

mr white, do you have any fun facts to tell me about the bay area before i move there?

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:04 (sixteen years ago) link

None whatsoever. I wouldn't want the fun of discovery to be spoiled, anyway.

(I R BRANEDED, TODAY)

Michael White, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Don't love to eat them fishies . . . Fishies what I hate to eat! No biting they little heads off, thank God they've no tiny feet

Now, explain me this rhyme, please. When I was ten, someone I knew went to America and brought me back a set of ten notecards with a cartoon cat on singing that song about the mousies, and I had them for so long (because I didn't send a lot of letters and cards to people, being ten and all) that the song has kind of been burned into my mind. Where does it come from?

Also, Patita, I'm glad the package arrived safely. Tayto Cheese and Onion crisps are a national institution, I'm relieved you liked them (also they make excellent packaging). Ballymaloe Relish can be used on burgers, cheese sandwiches, maybe hot dogs, who knows? It's tomatoey and quite sweet, good gear. I'm going to have some with roquefort on toast tonight to celebrate the package's safe arrival.

<a href="http://www.eatmousies.com/";>B. Kliban's Cats</a>

Michael White, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Arse! Wrong code!

accentmonkey, which Tayto, the Northern Irish or the Republic ones?

Michael White, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh please. Those Tandragee wankers. As if.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:16 (sixteen years ago) link

(Um, the Republic ones, I mean)

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:16 (sixteen years ago) link

So I was right to think it's a bit like ketchup (judging by the ingredients)?

I was going to try some on brisket, but Mr. P accused me of being a yankee. Cheese sandwich sounds ideal though! Tonight we'll divvy up the salt n vinegars and dream of sitting in an Irish pub.

patita, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:17 (sixteen years ago) link

B. Kliban's Cats

My notelet cat! Wow. I haven't seen him for 27 years.

Patita, you go ahead and eat it on brisket. It came from overseas and is therefore sophisticated.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:19 (sixteen years ago) link

trish, i still need to send you whittaker's chocolate! i keep forgetting!

mr white: i'm actually looking forward to exploring the place. but if i get a waitressing job, can i expect to make lots of tips because of my kiwi accent? :)

also: a very old friend of mine turned up at my work last night, completely out of the blue (haven't spoken to him in a year), and when i told him about jordan and moving to the US, he revealed that he's very good friends with the US embassador and also a high-ranking new zealander who works at the embassy, so i'm hoping this will somehow make getting a visa/cutting through redtape, at least a little easier.

yay for friends in high places!

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, Rubyredd, I would love chocolate, but if you've continent-moving things to do, don't worry about it.

And work those connections!

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Kliban was big here when I was a kid - everyone had one of his books.

Ruby, yes and because you're cute. (Also competent, so triple threat, really.)

Michael White, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Hi!

sunny successor, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Hi Sunzor.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:31 (sixteen years ago) link

hi sunny! what's up on the island?

patita, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:31 (sixteen years ago) link

I. Have. A. Damned. Fever. Blister.

I am the prize pig this week, I tell ya.

luna, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Is that like a cold sore? If so, my heart goes out to you. Those things are miserable.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:43 (sixteen years ago) link

trish, the moving thing is at least a few months away :( :( :(
...unless i win the lottery this weekend... so i will make valiant efforts to send chocs this week.

coolest gift ever: an original painting by blaine fontana (one of my favs) just given to me by my boy. well, strictly speaking he hasn't physically given it to me: he bought it for me and was going to send it over, but we figured it he might as well keep it since i'd just have to find a way to safely bring it over.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Yep, an unpopped one. It hurts and looks revolting.

luna, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:50 (sixteen years ago) link

also: my little sis sent me a really sweet card and a box of chocs, completely out of the blue. i'm having an excellent week, so far!

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:51 (sixteen years ago) link

luna, you poor thing! cold sores are the WORST. have you got any stuff for it? like zovirax?

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Rubyredd, actually, rather than chocolate, please to send Promite.

I find those Compeed cold sore patches good. They don't make it go away any faster, but they stop it from hurting (and you can put lippy on over it).

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Luna I have two ringworm spots. :(

Ya'll are busy! I just took an hour-and-a-half lunch/shopping trip. So nice.

Ruby, I was just thinking about you earlier and how I didn't think I'd seen you around lately. Hi! (Could be me that's not been around though.)

Misery, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:55 (sixteen years ago) link

I've got some Lysine + stuff I got at the drugstore last night, and I've iced it and put a hot teabag on it, but nothing is really doing much good. (It doesn't help that people look at you as though you have the plague... "oh my god, you have HERPES!" Yes, but just the cold sore kind, fuck off.)

luna, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh that blows, Sam, can you do anything about them?

luna, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:56 (sixteen years ago) link

There's OTC antifungals, yeah. But in the meantime there's an unsightly red ring which must be covered by bandaids and it itches like hell.

Misery, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 18:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Mis, how's the wee kittle doing?

Michael White, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Bah, having started a Scrabulous game I now have to go out and see Battles.

aldo, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:00 (sixteen years ago) link

ms misery, i have been very busy and very stressed and having big dramas! but now things are settling down. in fact, i've had good sleeps for the last 3 nights in a row - TOTAL AMAZEMENT!! considering i've been averaging 5 hours a night for months and months, this is a big deal, and may be contributing towards the great mood i've been in for the last couple of days.

trish, what is this promite you speak of?? i know only of marmite and vegemite... (i hate vegemite, but i ADORE marmite, although i've heard the british version tastes different).

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Promite is like Vegemite but is not made by Kraft. We lived on it in New Zealand, pretty much. You add water to it to make a soup and you chuck in veggies and noodles and you have yum yum dinner. Brilliant for camping.

I thought it would make a cute present to make a NZ hostel dinner for Mister M some night.

Bah, having started a Scrabulous game I now have to go out and see Battles.

A likely story.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh I miss Promite! Used to get it in Australia, but I always liked Vegemite better.

luna, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:07 (sixteen years ago) link

A likely story.

IT IS TRUE. My inexpert placement of tiles is just making you think otherwise.

aldo, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:08 (sixteen years ago) link

xpost trish: then i shall find you promite! :)

but i will also send whittaker's as a bonus.

xxpost luna, my mum used to only buy vegemite: "it tastes JUST LIKE MARMITE, so just eat it!". interestingly, my mum HATED marmite despite the fact they apparently taste the same.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:09 (sixteen years ago) link

I know none of these mites you speak of.

Mis, how's the wee kittle doing?

She's well, not as sick as her relatives outdoors. She's playful and keeps everyone (dogs included) on their toes. She's black/brown so blends in beautifully with the slate.

Misery, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:09 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't think Marmite and Vegemite taste the same at all! (Granted, it's been a while since I've had Marmite, but I eat Vegemite all the time).

luna, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:10 (sixteen years ago) link

i agree! my mother is crazy :/

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:22 (sixteen years ago) link

ms misery, send me your address and i shall send you marmite!

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:22 (sixteen years ago) link

She's well, not as sick as her relatives outdoors. She's playful and keeps everyone (dogs included) on their toes. She's black/brown so blends in beautifully with the slate.

Ha, Rory is like that too. She scourges the dogs, and likes to hide in a brown and black blanket that camouflages her extremely well.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 20:27 (sixteen years ago) link

Well that was rubbish. Left after half an hour.

aldo, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 21:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Worst film now seen on Sky Movies = Confetti. Even it it did have Robert Webb's cock in it.

I am now playing scrabulous and drinking hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows in it because I am having a "be good to myself" week (except for watching shite films but I thought it might be funny and nice and it was just rubbish)

ailsa, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 22:11 (sixteen years ago) link

I am going to play once in my game with you then get an early (for me) night.

aldo, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 22:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Mother of god, why am I still up? It's not like I haven't seen Bull Durham ten million times.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 23:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Ballymaloe Relish

Also funds p43d0ph1l3s. What can you do? It's a nice relish...

Promite sounds v v good.

Where did Beth and Aimurchie get to?

kv_nol, Thursday, 11 October 2007 09:26 (sixteen years ago) link

I fucking hate Rachel Allen.

aldo, Thursday, 11 October 2007 09:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh god, she is intensely irritating, and not a very good cook (or, if she is, she doesn't project that image on telly)

ailsa, Thursday, 11 October 2007 10:03 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't think she is either. Isn't she married to Anthony Worrall Thompson? Isn't that why she gets on telly?

Also funds p43d0ph1l3s. What can you do? It's a nice relish...

Also, in fairness to Rachel Allen, neither her nor Darina have ever been convicted of anything. Just because the da is a fucking eejit doesn't mean they haven't a right to make a living.

I don't know where Beth and Aimurchie went either, nor why Nath has stopped posting to this thread. Maybe we are too dull.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 11 October 2007 10:27 (sixteen years ago) link

Neither she nor Darina, I meant.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 11 October 2007 10:27 (sixteen years ago) link

Is Nath not having a baby?

I thought she was married to Darina's son. My objection to the whole Ballymaloe thing was the public front they presented. The fact that he got tipped off early to start his defence (e.g. visiting a psychologist about 3 weeks before), they allowed him back into the school to teach bakery and that they just didn't accept how horrific his actions had been. Fuck 'em basically is what I'm trying to say...
