I'm glad he's dropped that (excuse my terminological illiteracy) "echo beat" that you kept reappearing on Untrue in at least the first 3 songs and a couple later.

The only way I can describe it is that it goes "boomph-ba-da-da-boomph-ba-da - COONK"... "boompha-ba-da-daboomph-ba-da - COONK"

but I mean it really was weird and I was fairly surprised that critics seemed to generally ignore it. It took a couple listenings to realize that he just wasn't transferring the same beat from song to song and only differentiating between them by song titles and atmospherics/samples.

Well, I would argue that the beat you are describing, and variations of it, are his signature. You know it's him instantly. He owns it. And for me personally, it still works at album length.

The guy who ripped the vinyl had one of the bad pressings, clearly. The title track sounds a lot less distorted.

"Street Halo" left me cold, and I was beginning to think that "Moth" was the last thing about this guy that I would ever like but I'm really digging this EP.

i too was hoping for a drop ... i'm not going to say these are the worst or most boring tracks i've heard all week but they're certainly the most disappointing in a while (in general, not specific to burial).

i really like where "loner" goes at the 3-minute mark but i can't help thinking it would have been so much better in the hands of, say, magnetic man

there was discernable and quite thuggish bass on "street halo" which is why i was so excited for this EP

cliched Burial listening: this was lovely in the London rain the other night.

Best spot in London to listen to Burial is under the bridge near Finsbury Park station, I've found. Particularly when waiting for a heavily-delayed night bus.

I know the place - used to be a spot I frequented often when I first moved to London.

"The other night" I was on the DLR from Canning Town to Woolwich. Pretty perfect also.

I can't wait to get the vinyl of this to see how it is HMMsupposedHMM to sound. I like it enough at the moment but the bass on my earphones is lacking - esp. in the first minutes of the first track.

Kindred the track is kind of catchy for an 11 minute ambient opus with no more than fragmented melodies.

I like "Loner" best.
