The Perfect Lullaby is fuckin' A+, although nothing beats their Ciara remix for me at the moment. Looped "Boy is Mine" harp, the Ashanti/Pura Inspiracao bit is also v. good. Suspect that this will be in heavy rotation all summer.

Their forthcoming (I assume) single "Timesup" is deployed to great effect in both Kingdom's XLR8R mix and their European promo mix: http://www.discobelle.net/2011/03/17/nguzunguzu-euro-promo-mix/

Go see them if you have the chance. Considering a trip to LA just to go to their monthly with Kingdom and Total Freedom.

No this is not that but it's still very good in a different way.

Thought the dis mix was really beautiful, but wasn't expecting so much cumbia beat. Euro mini mix's energy is killing me this morning.

Is this mix still live? Can't download now. On my phone.

Did they do the M.I.A. vicki leaks mix? Their name is on some of the graphics I've seen for it, but not sure what role they had.

Moodles, Monday, 28 March 2011 16:21 (2 years ago) Permalink

Yeah, the implication seemed to be that they mixed vicki leakx. the leftover /\/\/\Y/\ tracks were produced by Diplo and Switch and the usual gang but the mix and some of the interstitials and the newer stuff was nguzunguzu. also they are her new tour djs?

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill The Radio Star (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 28 March 2011 16:59 (2 years ago) Permalink

asma from nguzunguzu was the dj for MIA's last tour

lex pretend, Monday, 28 March 2011 17:00 (2 years ago) Permalink

They'd be a much better fit for MIA than fucking Rusko.

Matt DC, Monday, 28 March 2011 17:01 (2 years ago) Permalink

asma is her tour dj and thusly working on production stuff too. think i mentioned it in another thread that when she was hired i called it that mia would probably start making good music again after maya. fun fact: she got hired because a mutual friend was sort of "hey you're southeast asian and so is m.i.a. and she needs an assistant so you should hook up", and hung around long enough for m.i.a. to notice she's got sweet musical chops.

- nicki minaj's "best i ever had" verse over wiley's "ice rink"
- yummy bingham, ciara, dj kay slay, "is that yo bitch", diamond "lotta money"...

We named ourselves NGUZUNGUZU after a type of wooden canoe prow carving from the Solomon Islands. We liked the name firstly for its phonetics, when repeated rapidly it sounds like a digeridoo. And the idea of this guiding figure on our craft of sonic explorations. Something like a beacon, a navigational tool, a compass that points us in various directions.

looking for that post led me to this Moments in Love mix which I don't think has been mentioned in this thread yet: http://www.negrophonic.com/2010/moments-in-mixtape/. Not as wonderful as Perfect Lullaby but good.

rob, Monday, 9 May 2011 15:42 (2 years ago) Permalink

they made for really boring/reticent interview subjects on /rupture's radio show, but some of the tunes were great, esp. near the end.

uhm i don't really listen to internet mixes of the kind i think you're asking of me, since you're asking on this thread

i like dj q on 1xtra and the butterz crew on rinse and check them on the regular but those are garage/grime specific radio shows

the late great, Wednesday, 4 July 2012 20:17 (10 months ago) Permalink

fwiw, the name is a reference to a Solomon Islands deity, often carved into figureheads for boats. Here's a huge one: http://www.solomonstarnews.com/news/business/5243--nguzunguzu-attracts-visitors

rob, Thursday, 5 July 2012 14:25 (10 months ago) Permalink

f2m isn't just nguzunguzu, not sure why a mixtape is being compared to a whole label? but for example rizzla's stuff is a bit too hard to fit in on the other tracks on perfect lullaby.
