She runs approx twice a day. One straight line away from me and one straight line back. She spends the rest of her time outside sniffing everything she can sniff and then, when she's inside, she sleeps or at least lies around looking sleepy.

She is lovely! A dog in motion, nothing more joyful.
Went to Crufts, met some dogs. Have decided my ambition in life is to be van Morrison on the cover of Veedon Fleece, chilling with a couple of Irish Wolfhounds.

I got a 4yo rescue Basset last year and she loved her so much that finally went out and got a Basset puppy. Can't wait for them to meet and play together.

The one and only drawback of getting a rescue dog is not knowing what the dog looked like in its v wee lil puppy days. I like to tell my dog how hyper and cute she must have been.

Some people in another county adopted a dog that we had when it was a very small puppy. They were so happy when we mailed them pictures of him when he was four weeks old. And we were so happy to see how he has grown up.

Meet Teufel, a a 5 month old puppy I adopted today. His mother was a Schnauzer-mix found with a litter of 9 amongst some PVC waste in December.
He's got a lovely (and hopefully non-shedding) brindle wiry coat, already follows me around like a magnet, came housetrained from the rescue group, and hasn't barked or whimpered once. He's a GOOD boy.

That's a handsome fella. Any idea how large he's going to get?
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 26 March 2011 21:18 (2 years ago) Permalink
Teufel's probably going to be 45 lbs, 18 inches at the shoulder. He's already 2/3's there by weight/volume. Medium size. I lived with 3 toy/miniature size dogs, and they couldn't handle walking 3 miles around the neighborhood, much less joining me hiking.
What's remarkable is how gentle he is amongst all the yapping dogs baying for attention when I adopted him. He's figured out the dog doors in about 30 seconds (the miniature dogs took 5 days).

Little fellow i walk now and then for my sister. He's called DylanDylan by carljgodwin, on Flickr

Teufel was the last of the litter to be adopted. Momma is still awaiting a home, but this rescue group keeps the dogs it can't place.

Teufel is adorable, it sounds like you two will be vv happy together
xpost - omg Dylan is a handsome little fellow! We had a long-haired Jack Russell the same coloring, but he had a huge brown spot on his right flank (so he was called Spot. lol)

Baby basset still hasn't come down to play with Lola. Before too long she's going to have outgrown adorable puppy stage and into slightly-less-adorable young dog stage.

i mean i love him but there's something perverse (on top of the perversity of dog-breeding in general) about taking the wildest jumpiest runniest active dog breed and giving it achondroplasia on purpose
