Ailsa, Darragh, there are a number of drawbacks with my job, the main one being that it pays absolutely terrible money. Also I think, Darragh, that you'd have to be willing to spend at least six months in Dublin, because you'd have to come into the office for the first few months before they'd let you telecommute. It is a sweet job, though.

Unfortunately, it seems many writing jobs do. This is one of the reasons I shunned a career in writing early on for the more dubious career of Webmonkey.

On that note may I just say that IE 6 is at the top of my shitlist today, even above mean, fat, fighting cats and little, ringworm-having, middle-of-the-night-pooping and keeping-me-awake cats.

One of my goldfish looks really, really ill. I am worried about him. He can't require euthanizing while Mister M is away, I cannot cope.

i'm not on fantastic money where i am, and i spend at least 80 quids and 5-6 hours a week to get to work.

however, i realise this is a pitifully small commute for a lot of people, and life is pretty cheap for me at present, so i'm not gonna claim to be hugely discontented.

i'm looking at self employment in the next few years anyway, i'm just building up experience and savings for the while, and public sector life ain't bad.

I had a beta fish once that developed dropsy (I think). It was sad as I could do nothing for him.

I think that's what it was called. Basically he couldn't stay down in the water, he kept rising to the top, sideways. He could still eat but his general fish-ness was not in order. He lasted a couple of weeks this way and then his time came. :(

That sounds like swim bladder problems.

Dropsy is when the fish swells up and its scales stand out sideways. It can be caused by a bunch of things and is sometimes treatable.

He/she has developed a very swollen belly. I have examined the literature online, and he/she either has internal parasites or is suffering from eggbinding. Either way, I'm going to have to get that fish out of the tank and into an isolation tank so I can treat it.

When I was ten, someone I knew went to America and brought me back a set of ten notecards with a cartoon cat on singing that song about the mousies, and I had them for so long (because I didn't send a lot of letters and cards to people, being ten and all) that the song has kind of been burned into my mind. Also, Patita, I'm glad the package arrived safely. Tayto Cheese and Onion crisps are a national institution, I'm relieved you liked them (also they make excellent packaging). Ballymaloe Relish can be used on burgers, cheese sandwiches, maybe hot dogs, who knows? It's tomatoey and quite sweet, good gear. I'm going to have some with roquefort on toast tonight to celebrate the package's safe arrival.

I find those Compeed cold sore patches good. They don't make it go away any faster, but they stop it from hurting (and you can put lippy on over it).
