My interest is also piqued by the forthcoming Tiger and Woods album.

2 weeks pass...

so, yesterday i was approached by a PR asking for my skype details as a german magazine wants to interview me about my album.
took a few minutes before the penny dropped.
can't deny i did have a thought to step up and do the interview and talk about my love for Foetus et al, as opposed to downtempo sunshine grooves.

haha! for real?

andrew m., Tuesday, 29 March 2011 14:22 (2 years ago) Permalink

yup.
not the first time the confusion has happened.
normally, its 'hello, i like your music' type of emails, but this took things to a new (and possible fun) level.

mark e, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 14:32 (2 years ago) Permalink

love this so much

Love those dark swells in that new Cottam so much.

This one on Kolour LTD is nice. Was skeptical but now loving Cole Medina's "True 2 the Disco"

That revenge edit is great. He, along with 6th Borough project, are fast becoming my favourite producers/editors of the moment.

That actually reminded me of this slo-mo house jam from 6 years. Am I correct in hearing the same/similar samples in this?

EDB, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 20:42 (2 years ago) Permalink

Oh, I didn't know we had a thread about the Revenge. I've got their album somewhere but ain't listened to it yet.

xpost that samples this

jaxon, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 20:52 (2 years ago) Permalink

Revenge album is OK, a nice collection of edits but a bit of a hodgepodge and not quite the deep-beat slo-mo jams we're used to from him. More along the lines of other fare from Z Records (Joey Negro's label). the Mark E album, on the other hand, is fucking great. most of the tracks hover around 115 but the slower ones are killer. Really digging it at the moment.
Other stuff that should be getting talked about in this thread:

Duff Disco
Dead Rose Music Company
Daniel Solar and his label Dikso (I believe it's his)
Sleazy Beats label
Eclectic Avenue label
LTJ, the Super Value and Small World Disco labels

posting some current jams below:

loving that new Cottam as well...

mikebee (BATTAGS), Saturday, 9 April 2011 00:28 (2 years ago) Permalink

btw, a little BSP - if you're in SF, i'll be playing this sort of stuff at the afterparty for the Sunset season opener on Sunday, at Milk starting around 9 or so. if you go to the Sunset party, head by afterwards for some slo-mo action!

mikebee (BATTAGS), Saturday, 9 April 2011 00:29 (2 years ago) Permalink

that The Dead Rose Music Company is amazing! seriously.

dunno if the francis inferno orchestra track is necessary. the imagination track is pretty perfect on its own, but i've sorta been done w/straight edits for a long time now.

jaxon, Saturday, 9 April 2011 07:35 (2 years ago) Permalink

ordinary things by xxxy on ten thousand yen turns into a lovely slow house jam at -8

out comes stanley, Saturday, 9 April 2011 16:58 (2 years ago) Permalink

can't wait to play some of these tracks to a hotel crowd on friday. Think it'll really suit it.

Samples of the Mark E album: http://ghostly.com/releases/stone-breaker

Really anticipating this now, Black Moon sounds like it's bleeding sunshine and Oranges and Belvide Beat are blissed-out hazy acid workouts.

Belvide Beat is my jam!

mikebee (BATTAGS), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 22:40 (2 years ago) Permalink

The Eddie C album is lovely - first half is slo-mo jams, then it gets a bit housier. Very hazy and bleary-eyed in the best possible way with lots of thick disco basslines.

ha ha ha ha jack my swag (boxedjoy), Monday, 25 April 2011 09:21 (2 years ago) Permalink

^ i have been enjoying this lately as well, has anyone heard the revenge or soft rocks full lengths yet? i think those came out already, no? part of me is expecting to be let down by a lot of these releases but this eddie c thing is def encouraging

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Monday, 25 April 2011 18:02 (2 years ago) Permalink

still can't get over the leadoff track, pretty damn slo mo and pretty damn awesome and also maybe balearic: http://soundcloud.com/elkoo/eddie-c-we-need-we

Hey everyone. Just discovered this site... this thread is pure gold! Not sure if it's been covered already but my starting contribution will be the following... Loads of great stuff out on Wolf Music at the moment.

Just listening to Prince - Strange Relationship and thinking one of these slow-bros needs to do a re-edit.

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 5 May 2011 00:22 (2 years ago) Permalink

the revenge album is just ok on the whole, but the edit of "kilamanjaro" is considerably better than ok imo:

Really into that Eddie C album. Space Shuttle is incredible. It sounds really familiar too, is it a sample of Ash Ra or Gottsching?

Non-Stop Erotic Calculus (bmus), Thursday, 5 May 2011 04:46 (2 years ago) Permalink

cant decide if i think this is sacrilege or not cuz the original is one of my fav songs ever made but these seems like a p dope edit. kinda hate when a song that is so heavily derivative is titled like it was an original composition or something though

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Thursday, 5 May 2011 04:52 (2 years ago) Permalink

not sure it belongs in here

i know its a month old but im not sure i get the appeal of that 'brothers gonna work it out edit' -- sounds like someone's fucking with the mixer & playing another track on top of it at the wrong speed. plus the greatest part of the original is the crazy tom pattern in the drums. maybe im not 'getting it' tho

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Thursday, 5 May 2011 04:57 (2 years ago) Permalink

maybe you just dont get it, deej

i think it's "shuttle cock"

perhaps you can explain it, gr8080

the only advantage i see is its prob easier to beatmatch

Oh yeah, that's definitely it. Thanks!

speaking of "ShuttleCock", anyone willing to share the Private Tapes version with? Lost mine in a crash last year and can't track it down.

andrew m., Thursday, 5 May 2011 18:49 (2 years ago) Permalink

brother's gonna work it out revenge edit is great because it's trippy and cinemascopic and pretty dramatic when the strings kick in towards the end. It's pretty far out from the OG as far as edits go.

blank, Thursday, 5 May 2011 23:46 (2 years ago) Permalink

totally otm

perhaps you can explain it, gr8080

deej i was just clowning cause you used the "maybe i dont get it" qualifier twice in your post ;]

sounds like someone's fucking with the mixer & playing another track on top of it at the wrong speed.

imo it abandons the bombastic soundtracky shift from the first part to the 2nd part of the original and in turn recreates a slow, building thing thats more ~atmosphere~ than energy. blank's totally otm on how when the strings drop in, they're dramatic, but imo not in a build-and-release way: more sunrise than atom bomb.

plus the greatest part of the original is the crazy tom pattern in the drums.

agreed, but i love how he kills them and instead replicates that rhythm with that really tight kick drum sound that repeats over and over.

best kind of re-edit imo

ill relisten

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Friday, 6 May 2011 03:10 (2 years ago) Permalink

"Sunrise" is pretty much the perfect way to describe the Revenge's edits.

EDB, Friday, 6 May 2011 13:17 (2 years ago) Permalink

For whatever reason, I've been ambivalent about Eddie C (it probably has to do with some sort of narcissism of small differences that comes with being an Eddie B and also being Canadian), but to hell with that, this is incredible:
