Radiohead - The King of Limbs

Pre-ordered. And I have to say, 36 euros including p&p seems like a really good deal. Esp. considering p&p would come to what, 10 euros at least for what seams a heavy box.

A 4 tracks/sides album would be sublime, but I'll sign for a mere 8!

went to the record store recently and the guy was selling a seven inch with die cut boloney in a zip lock bag packaged with it. They hadn't sold in his online store fast enough so when I asked about what was in the bag he threw them all out.

I mean, it was several copies of the seven inch all with aging boloney.

Kinda surprised it's only eight tracks, as their records are generally quite uniform as being 10-12 3 to 5 min. tracks (with the exceptions of "Paranoid Android" and Hail to the Thief being 14 tracks). Makes m wonder if they've got more material on the way, esp. since they've been working on this stuff for ages. Pretty stoked that we have no idea whatsoever what to expect.

Maybe it'll be a Kid A/Amnesiac kind of deal.

Or a bonus disc as with In Rainbows. Anyway, we'll all find out soon enough.

Think they would have mentioned a bonus disc? I think they mentioned the In Rainbows one.

In Rainbows is still sitting in a pile downstairs. I bought it, but haven't yet taken off the shrinkwrap.

Just bought the jumbo newspaper edition, am annoyed that it doesn't come out until..

I'll be surprised if it doesn't look like the broadsheet edition of McSweeny's. They're obviously the kind of guys who fuck w. Dave Eggers and read that publication.

really I just want to know if it is going to look like an actual newspaper so I know if I can go around saying they ripped off the Dead Kennedys on that one album

I don't know what you guys are on about, the cover art is fantastic and hopefully indicates what the album is like. Also hello even my mother has heard of zip files. Can't wait to hear this.

Whether or not this is any good at all, or overpriced or not, the one definitely fantastic thing about it is that it's released on a Saturday.

Although UK music releases are now all on a Monday and have been for ages - SOME OF US CAN REMEMBER when new records were released on a Friday.

If I recall correctly (although I do so increasingly infrequently).

But there was, then, the added excitement of getting a new record just in time for the weekend.

And Monday is far too far from the weekend, and from the first opportunity for many people to get a decent chance to listen to new stuff.

There are 6 other days of the week - at least - that would be better than Monday for music being released.

Saturday is, undoubtedly, one of these other days that is not a Monday.

Look Enrique, the Big Society means some of us have a tough old week of putting out each other's bins and having to buy up forests and stuff. Come Saturday we have no energy to be riding around in open-top cars drinking Moet. All we want to do is sit in our hospital beds and cry and cry and cry. So enough sarkiness from you.

You do realise that "really long songs" isn't actually any kind of guarantee that they'll be good?

The design of all three of those is so well suited to the respective bands. Will frankly be disappointed if Radiohead don't recreate the whole of the Observer, complete with all the supplements.

I for one am looking forward to Colin Greenwood's cookery column. Maybe the drummer could write an inane opinion piece about the diplomatic minefield of only sending out wedding invites through Facebook.

Tom Waits' Heart Attack & Vine is another obvious one of these. No matter how much extra stuff they add, it's kind of a played out idea already.

One of the few things we know about this album is that the artwork won't actually be a newspaper, dudes.

Yeah it that would be a daft assumption to make about something called a newspaper album that is made of many large sheets of paper and comes in a plastic bag.

I think it's highly unlikely to be a traditional newspaper in the form of most of those album covers though, especially given what we already know about the cover. It might refer to lyrical content as well.

It looks Animal Collective to me. Sort of an In Rainbows version of MPP with Thom Yorke on vocals?

It's Dave Eggers' quarterly literary magazine based in San Francisco. It has the pretty cool idea of changing format with each issue. I love the newspaper one, you can still track it down on line.

Nice! I was aware it was some sort of magazine but was impressed at seeing the newspaper format. A shame it's not a real, monthly or quarterly newspaper thing.
