very quotatious (tehresa), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:38 (fifteen years ago) link

oh man, i just looked out the window to see a dude beating a cement mixer with a 2x4. i need to find more ways to release energy while working. that seems fun.

very quotatious (tehresa), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:40 (fifteen years ago) link

If our chosen career paths don't pan out, perhaps tehresa and I can learn to do something that involves using jackhammers or destroying buildings.

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 18:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Soooooo close to finishing with clinical prep, just cannot find a couple of pieces of info. in book. AGGRAVATING

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 20:05 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't suppose any of you knows how soon a baby boy should void after circumcision, or what the expected Hemoglobin levels of a pregnant woman and a postpartum woman are.

I swear there are charts and photographs for every other possibility under the sun in my book. Just not for these two questions.

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 20:12 (fifteen years ago) link

American Family Physician, May 1, 1996 :No complications occurred as a result of the procedure, and all of the infants voided after the circumcision. The average time to voiding was 5.3 hours. The longest time to voiding was 11.5 hours after the circumcision.

La Push It (Susan), Friday, 5 December 2008 20:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Hemoglobin is measured in grams per deciliter of blood. The normal levels are:

* Women: 12.1 to 15.1 gm/dl
* Men: 13.8 to 17.2 gm/dl
* Children: 11 to 16 g/dl
* Pregnant women: 11 to 12 g/dl

La Push It (Susan), Friday, 5 December 2008 20:31 (fifteen years ago) link

good lord, Susan, do you want to go to clinical for me tomorrow? You have to dress like a smurf (blue and white scrubs) and you might have to watch a circumcision, but otherwise it could be fun.

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 20:34 (fifteen years ago) link

(seriously - THANK YOU!)

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 20:34 (fifteen years ago) link

haha, just googling.

I would *not* want to watch circumcision. I really don't understand why people do that to those poor babies.

La Push It (Susan), Friday, 5 December 2008 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, I don't get it, either (except for I do get that there is a lot of family pressure - my family was absurd about it. Upside was that they "got" that I was the parent of Alex RIGHT AWAY). That is the one thing that would drive me away from this area of nursing...

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 20:36 (fifteen years ago) link

I did have a funny moment once when my sister's son, who IS circumcised, saw Alex peeing and said to H, "his is bigger than mine!!!" LOL Kids were about 6 or 7 then.

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 20:38 (fifteen years ago) link

that happens to me all the time

MINOTAUR FACEPLANT IS ITS OWN REWARD (John Justen), Friday, 5 December 2008 22:52 (fifteen years ago) link

freaks people out when i say it too

MINOTAUR FACEPLANT IS ITS OWN REWARD (John Justen), Friday, 5 December 2008 22:54 (fifteen years ago) link

thought id soften it up with a selfzing

MINOTAUR FACEPLANT IS ITS OWN REWARD (John Justen), Friday, 5 December 2008 22:55 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm so torn between responses here. Options:

1. stay away from my son
2. soften it up, okay
3. (some kind of witty remark mocking John's penis size)

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 22:58 (fifteen years ago) link

I have to get up insanely early tomorrow for clinical, so good night all and happy weekend.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 6 December 2008 03:26 (fifteen years ago) link

went to an exhibition opening tonight, got 5 original sketches FOR FREE!!!

gave j-dawg his birthday presents 2 days early because i couldn't wait any longer.

it's always funny until someone gets hurt and then it's just hilariou (Rubyredd), Saturday, 6 December 2008 08:26 (fifteen years ago) link

I despise early mornings, and ones with snow and freezing weather suck the most.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 6 December 2008 11:06 (fifteen years ago) link

BUT - RR - sounds like you had a fun night last night. LOL about the birthday presents. You gave him all of his presents early?! (that's actually super sweet)

Sara R-C, Saturday, 6 December 2008 11:07 (fifteen years ago) link

aw that's cute!

i also despise early mornings. esp early saturday mornings! 4 hours of sleep (which beats the prior night's 2.5!) makes me zombie. now i go spend 10+ hours in panel all day. wooooh!

very quotatious (tehresa), Saturday, 6 December 2008 12:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Home from clinical, had a really good experience, am now v. tired (b.c. my body never lets me sleep before clinicals).

Sara R-C, Saturday, 6 December 2008 22:33 (fifteen years ago) link

panel was really, really hard. i estimate we had about 25% less money to allocate this year than last. made things really tough and draining. i feel like a jerk, but hopefully we made the right decisions!

very quotatious (tehresa), Sunday, 7 December 2008 03:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Don't feel like a jerk; you did what you could with what you had. You can't do more than that.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 7 December 2008 05:02 (fifteen years ago) link

i felt like i was the bad cop a lot... the one who had to say 'look we only have $x. we have to cut somewhere and this dude is lacking in x so... cut.' it makes you feel cold and callous!

very quotatious (tehresa), Sunday, 7 December 2008 05:14 (fifteen years ago) link

It's the times. We're collectively pondering budget adjustments at where I work, for instance. But things will continue.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 7 December 2008 14:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Sounds like you did what you had to do. And Ned is exactly right, as usual.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 7 December 2008 15:02 (fifteen years ago) link

We're taking the kids Xmas shopping at Mall of America today. I will let you all know if it was creepily deserted or if MN is in crazed shopping mode.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 7 December 2008 15:03 (fifteen years ago) link

oh weird. when my sister spent a summer in sioux falls, they went on a weekend trip to mpls and she bought me a shirt for that mall. i don't know why.

i am going to a knicks-pistons game shortly!

very quotatious (tehresa), Sunday, 7 December 2008 15:13 (fifteen years ago) link

Because it's an absurdly large mall, and they sell t-shirts? (yeah, I don't know why, either).

Scariest thing I saw today: American Girls store. J. is crazy for it, but it's just crazy.

Hope you're enjoying your game, tza. I'm in need of a serious nap.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 7 December 2008 21:13 (fifteen years ago) link

Pistons played possibly the worst I've seen them for the first 3 quarters so turning it on in the 4th was not enough to save them ;_;

I HAS CHRISTMAS TREE

MINOTAUR FACEPLANT IS ITS OWN REWARD (John Justen), Sunday, 7 December 2008 23:00 (fifteen years ago) link

i gotta say, the christmas tree/fireplace thing we got going on right now is making this whole house buying thing seem like a smart call

MINOTAUR FACEPLANT IS ITS OWN REWARD (John Justen), Sunday, 7 December 2008 23:01 (fifteen years ago) link

xp yikes. they needed your good luck earlier than that obv!

John, it was a brilliant call to buy that house, and I'm seriously envying your fireplace right now. The sewage disaster was shortlived, no?

A. is putting our tree up w/kids. I may help decorate later; I just avoid doing lights b.c. my parents bicker every year while doing that. (I'm supposed to be writing for school, both labor and delivery clinical prep and a paper on my patients from yesterday. I did take a nap, too. I would like more naps).

Sara R-C, Sunday, 7 December 2008 23:15 (fifteen years ago) link

happy monday. my friend who i haven't seen in ages is staying here and between cleaning and catching up when he got here last night, i did not write my paper. tonight he is making me dinner when i get home from class, which means that i will also probably not write my paper. tuesday night paper marathon omg this is gonna suck!

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 8 December 2008 13:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Is it your last paper?

So trying to put on a huge big face and positive attitude for Monday. I am the *worst* when it comes to general happiness and positive outlook on life. But if there was anytime I really needed to pull it off. . .

Fortunately this is a four-day week for me. I'm taking Friday off for my birthday. whee!

La Push It (Susan), Monday, 8 December 2008 14:00 (fifteen years ago) link

lol it is like, the warm-up paper that precedes 2 more (each with accompanying presentations), a drafting project, and an exam.

oooh birthday yay! i wish i could take a day off this week for school work stuff, but i can't.

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 8 December 2008 14:03 (fifteen years ago) link

tza, I am feeling the same way - I just want to bake cookies and decorate the tree (and sleep...), but I have a huge paper to write - this time on BOTH mom and baby (my two patients from Sat.), AND I have to write up the clinical prep for my labor and delivery clinical this coming Saturday (basically write about labor AND everything that the book says could possibly go wrong).

We will get through this together! Even if yours is a one night marathon and mine is going to go on possibly forever...

Sara R-C, Monday, 8 December 2008 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

i will have a tues night marathon this week followed by an all-weekend marathon. but if i don't die then i will be almost totally done with grad school (aside from that pesky thesis thing)!

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 8 December 2008 16:45 (fifteen years ago) link

Hey, and it's GRAD SCHOOL - a huge accomplishment! And you're so close to being done!!! (let's just not talk about the thesis thing right now, okay?)

Remember: I'm just getting a certificate for this - not even a degree!

Sara R-C, Monday, 8 December 2008 17:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Today's Word of the Day: episiorrhaphy. It is the repair of an episiotomy.

You're welcome.

Sara R-C, Monday, 8 December 2008 22:19 (fifteen years ago) link

wow, that name. . .

La Push It (Susan), Monday, 8 December 2008 22:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Kind of painful just to read it, really.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 05:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, going to bed now, because if I don't I'm afraid I will not thaw out again, ever. I look forward to the 2 hours of daylight we'll have tomorrow...

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 9 December 2008 06:30 (fifteen years ago) link

the "transition team" askers-of-hard-questions are showing up at my office tomorrow morning. almost annoyed I won't be there. fingers x'd for a bloodbath.
