just sayin, Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:13 (thirteen years ago) link

and only 2 number one votes each - compare that to last year where fever ray had 5 and the-dream had 10!

yeah this is kinda telling!

And it's done. Well done, everyone. We made it out alive.

ILM hivemind gotta ask itself some searching questions imo

oh and thanks, JF, seandalai etc :D

acoleuthic, Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:14 (thirteen years ago) link

well now i'm wondering where mine placed...

omar little, Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:15 (thirteen years ago) link

Odd year. Although it makes it clearer why Kanye had such an easy time convincing people to put him at #1 elsewhere.

abcfsk, Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:15 (thirteen years ago) link

Thank Johnny, seandalai, and company. Well done, lots of fun ("indie" indie excepted), do it again next year.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:15 (thirteen years ago) link

also, thanks JF (and accomplices). Well up to musically's high standards. :)

Daithi Lacha Flame (seandalai), Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:16 (thirteen years ago) link

btw am listening to The-Dream and yeah it's OK but idrgi, seems really synthetic and superficial and forgettable, Yamaha was a jam

acoleuthic, Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:16 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah big thanks to j0hnny and jordan and seandalai!!

lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:16 (thirteen years ago) link

8 points?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:16 (thirteen years ago) link

I have no idea where the hive even is. Only 3 of the 20 I voted for made it.

LOVELY. woulda been voted for my yrs truly if i'd thought it had any chance at placing! that's the last year i cast a populist ballot and avoid ranking things i think have no shot @ placing ;_;

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:17 (thirteen years ago) link

thanks guys, great poll. my ballot would've put L&C on top :p

acoleuthic, Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:18 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah totally great job guys!

this list kicked every other EoY list's ass this year! Well done, all!

actually ship I believe it's more like 49

ellj versus deej (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:18 (thirteen years ago) link

so who are lindstrom and christabelle?

Al, I'd direct you first to the Q. Jones/M. Jackson homage Baby Can't Stop (which appeared on the 2009 tracks poll, IIRC).

lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:19 (thirteen years ago) link

damn i don't think i voted for l&c tho i considered it. could've bumped them to #1.

could some kind poll-runner send me my ballot when you get a min?

call all destroyer, Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:19 (thirteen years ago) link

F.I.L.A. is much better than the first two The-Dream songs. The slower, grander style suits him.

acoleuthic, Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:19 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm going to have to go back to Real Life Is No Cool I haven't played it since it came out. Big Boi is Definitely a worthy winner.

Thanks to all who put this list together it's been fun.

Yep, same number of mine made it, and I do have a twinge of regret at not hearing some stuff that could've tweaked my ballot to be a little more Kanye-free (I do like that album, though! I find it quite fascinating).

emil.y, Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Out of these albums, I have only heard 9 of them front to back.

Yesterday (21-40) was fairly hivey.

heh thanks jaymc but i was just making a joke about how artists that can place so high have basically been disembodied names i keep seeing on New Answers to me for years. it's european dance stuff i guess? i tend not to make it a priority to hear that kind of thing.

Yeah Lindstrom is "cosmic disco" really although this time he's got an actual disco diva in to sing over it all (ie probably one of his friends).

Just realised that High On Fire & Alcest are going to miss out. I thought they were the ILM metal bands for people who don't usually do metal. Wonder if one of those were the metal band @ #100 that johnny mentioned in the other thread?

As it turns out, it was indeed Alcest (who got more than enough votes to make the top 77 but not enough points per vote)...There's quite a lot of metal just outside the countdown, you just needed a couple more people willing to vote for Kylesa or Nachtmystium.

Daithi Lacha Flame (seandalai), Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:32 (thirteen years ago) link

would've voted for "liberation thru hearing" if it were nommed /:

HI DERE

(i'd have voted kylesa, high on fire, alcest, nachtmystium, shining, etc. etc. had i chosen to put metal on my ballot)

voted for several metal albums, but only a couple of them placed ;_;

still, glad to see agalloch and harvey milk, that's something. see it's the "indie" indie indie fans that i really feel sorry for...
