Having now listened to "Hard in Da Paint," I'm not crazy about it.

If you want to get this polls results out before P&J in future then you can always do it when we do the metal poll. I'm sure we could bring forward the metal poll results by a week. I just like having it run out first so that no-one is suffering from poll fatigue by the time it drops. I do wish it could generate more posts though. 80 ballots but about a dozen posters :(

funny how similar this jonsi track is to both the arcade fire track and that last robyn. obv different in that it's given a dance music makeover with lots of attention to the build & release, but not all that different in basic tone and melodic character.

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Wut is very pleasant and pretty, but in no way is it a #1 monument of anything.

abcfsk, Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:58 (thirteen years ago) link

omfg i'm so incredibly happy at this - when i posted the WUT thread i remember thinking, god, this is probably going to get maybe 3 replies. and here it is at the top of the ilm poll!!!!!! LUV U GUYS

(this was my #1 obv, and i adore it.)

can't believe Underworld - Scribble didn't place.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:00 (thirteen years ago) link

wow... turns out ilxor was completely otm on the top 10.

good thing i didnt predict rankings, i'd have put waka & girl unit was down in the 8/9/10 slots

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:01 (thirteen years ago) link

wasn't blown away by 'hard in da paint' on first hearing, but there's something impressive about a whole cd with an energy level that high

Dan S, Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:01 (thirteen years ago) link

had not heard this! not as good as waka but its neat

ciderpress, Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:01 (thirteen years ago) link

vote splitting-- i voted for "always <3 a film" & no doubt others did too

wut winning this poll basically proves everything ive suspected abt ilx's continued interest in indie-not-indie

tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:01 (thirteen years ago) link

I've had more arguments about Night Slugs and the whole "global bass" aesthetic than I'd like to have about anything and I'm still kind of lukewarm on the aesthetic but even *I* think 'Wut' is fucking brilliant. First time I heard it was in a rather drab and moody set and then I heard this mixed in with Justin Timberlake's My Love and it just sounded like this shining light.

NB don't listen on Youtube, you won't get the bass and most of the impact.

Matt DC, Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:02 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah it's a cool song but

why "wut" and not "mindreader"?

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Really don't get the everybody jumping in the boat for Wut, but it's not an offensive track at all. think i might prefer "Showstopper" honestly.

i turned my head n boom I saw that tweet #wow (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:02 (thirteen years ago) link

i hope shipz was being ironic with his "too similar to p&j" comment, what with girl unit and waka flocka flame being our 1 and 2!

u&k viewing: crowd video of "wut" being dropped at november night slugs. that is what it does to a dancefloor.

the other tracks on the ep, which are almost as amazing - "showstoppa", "every time".

WUT WUT WUT WUT~~~

yup. though maybe i'd feel differently if i was out clubbing all the time or something?

ullr saves (gbx), Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:03 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah I also think it's a good song but it leaves me a tad lukewarm about it being the supreme track of 2010. I guess it found a way of sneaking into lots of lists without it being necessarily the top pick.

Moka, Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:03 (thirteen years ago) link

ty for the poll tho folks, sterling job and quite a lot to check out now!

why "wut" and not "mindreader"?

yeah "mind reader" was one of a few i was surprised didn't place at all (also storm queen's "look right through")

proud to be on the opposite side of LJ in this argument

tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Wut is a hip-hop beat AND a shimmery indie electronica instrumental AND a huge dancefloor anthem. It's number one because it unites different groups of listeners in a way that Mindreader doesn't.

Matt DC, Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:04 (thirteen years ago) link

"look right through" and "mind reader" were on my ballot ;_;

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Thanks to j0rdan, johnny and seandelai for polling. And also to Lex for his quarterly reports without which I wouldn't have had about 1/4 of my ballot.

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 21:05 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah storm queen was my #1, really disappointed that it didn't place

I don't really get "wut" tbh, it's cool and everything but I don't see what the big deal is... maybe if I was more familiar with the scene
