Confused: where did the Netflix review thread go?

MINOTAUR FACEPLANT IS ITS OWN REWARD (John Justen), Thursday, 4 December 2008 01:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Whew, thanks. I thought I'd been working on homework for so long that I was hallucinating ILX threads.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 4 December 2008 02:18 (fifteen years ago) link

i love my labor prof so much. he signs his emails 'c' and also told us tonight that it's ok if we editorialize in our final papers. awesome. now to get him to cancel the final...

very quotatious (tehresa), Thursday, 4 December 2008 05:01 (fifteen years ago) link

I totally love my OB prof. Sadly, this unit only lasts through one more class and one clinical with her (we go observe labor and delivery on our own). It's just not enough time to endear myself to her and get her to adopt me.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 4 December 2008 05:06 (fifteen years ago) link

so remember how jordan got me that jim woodring original ink drawing as a graduation present? you probably don't. but anyway: it's a picture of pushpaw (the boy) thinking about pupshaw (the girl). for jordan's birthday i got him the reverse - through v v devious means.

john justen is probably the only person on this thread who will possibly appreciate the awesomeness of this (it's titled 'relative humidity', since the first one he did was called 'slight chance of rain'):

there is also a pencil sketch on the back, like a scrap piece of paper he was doodling on.

I don't know who he is but that's an awesome drawing!

I always do Site New Answers so truly have no idea what threads are on what boards.

It is fucking freezing in Austin this morning.

^^^ All very cool, RR, even for those of us who had never heard of Jim Woodring before hearing about him from you!

Susan, Minnesota is also rather chilly. ;_;

Sara R-C, Thursday, 4 December 2008 17:49 (fifteen years ago) link

i am staying home today because as i was about to leave for work i was overcome with awful nausea. ugh. no paid sick days. this is gonna suck when compounded with last week's small check.

i should be using this time to get my work done, but the thought of it makes me want to vomit.

very quotatious (tehresa), Thursday, 4 December 2008 17:50 (fifteen years ago) link

tza, I hope you feel better soon!

Money sucks, no doubt about it, but nothing is worse than nausea and vomiting combined with pretty much anything else.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 4 December 2008 21:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Friday. . .damn am I bored.

La Push It (Susan), Friday, 5 December 2008 15:04 (fifteen years ago) link

At least you're not starting threads about cow-tipping!

Ca-hoot na na na oh oh (HI DERE), Friday, 5 December 2008 15:06 (fifteen years ago) link

Anytime I start threads, they die. I think I was a much more interesting poster when I was a crazy drunk.

La Push It (Susan), Friday, 5 December 2008 15:10 (fifteen years ago) link

Friday, bored and I raise you no internet other than through my phone.

The no paid sickdays thing gives me serious cause to reconsider working in the US long term.

Ed, Friday, 5 December 2008 15:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Well your job is an odd one then. I've always had paid sick days (sometimes more than others, but they've been there.)

La Push It (Susan), Friday, 5 December 2008 15:17 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, i have to go to work even though i did not sleep all night and still feel like crap because i can't afford not to go. yay america. (note, you will probably secure a real job with sick days. i chose a very stupid industry, and admittedly fucked myself over in a lot of ways when i took this job in hopes that it would eventually pay off and i could forget how miserable i am now).

very quotatious (tehresa), Friday, 5 December 2008 15:18 (fifteen years ago) link

tza, working when sick sucks, so get better immediately. I'm the student nurse on this thread, so you have to do what I say in this area. ;)

I'm honestly getting nervous about OB postpartum clinical tomorrow. I haven't held a newborn since I HAD a newborn. It's been a while!

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:45 (fifteen years ago) link

awww...babbies!

i remember when i started to go into labor (induced) and some nurses were standing over me and my mom pipes up 'its must be great working in the maternity ward' and a nurse replies 'itys either great or really, really sad' and im all like 'god! shutup, mom!'

speaking of moms shes about to land in LA in a couple of minutes (from sydney AUS) to visit us for a month so im in the dreaded CLEANING MODE.

RADNESS UNLIMITED! (sunny successor), Friday, 5 December 2008 16:59 (fifteen years ago) link

thanks, sara. lol they are like 'oh you don't have to stay if you feel bad' and it's so hard for me to not scream "WELL GIVE ME BENEFITS/SICK DAYS AND I'LL BE HAPPY TO GO HOME!!!!!"

sunny, i will send my roomie over to help. he also called into work yesterday, not because he was sick, but just because. he then proceeded to MASSIVELY clean our living room/kitchen. it is sparkling. i think he just threw everything in the trash and then went to town scrubbing. hope there was not any important mail there! (i am generally good about pulling mine from the pile, but it's possible to miss stuff!).

very quotatious (tehresa), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:27 (fifteen years ago) link

Wow, your roommate sounds crazy, tza. Can I borrow him?

Sunny - yikes, a whole MONTH?!

Tomorrow is postpartum clinical day; I don't have to do labor and delivery until next weekend. I'm impressed that you let your mother come to your labor. I would NOT have been happy to see mine, and god knows what I might have said to her.

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 17:34 (fifteen years ago) link

it is even crazier if you can picture an over 6' lanky, bearded redhead with pensacola accent who generally likes to retreat to his room and drink tall boys after work.

very quotatious (tehresa), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:36 (fifteen years ago) link

I severely misread the end of that last sentence.

Ca-hoot na na na oh oh (HI DERE), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:37 (fifteen years ago) link

very quotatious (tehresa), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:38 (fifteen years ago) link

oh man, i just looked out the window to see a dude beating a cement mixer with a 2x4. i need to find more ways to release energy while working. that seems fun.

very quotatious (tehresa), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:40 (fifteen years ago) link

If our chosen career paths don't pan out, perhaps tehresa and I can learn to do something that involves using jackhammers or destroying buildings.

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 18:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Soooooo close to finishing with clinical prep, just cannot find a couple of pieces of info. in book. AGGRAVATING

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 20:05 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't suppose any of you knows how soon a baby boy should void after circumcision, or what the expected Hemoglobin levels of a pregnant woman and a postpartum woman are.

I swear there are charts and photographs for every other possibility under the sun in my book. Just not for these two questions.

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 20:12 (fifteen years ago) link

American Family Physician, May 1, 1996 :No complications occurred as a result of the procedure, and all of the infants voided after the circumcision. The average time to voiding was 5.3 hours. The longest time to voiding was 11.5 hours after the circumcision.

La Push It (Susan), Friday, 5 December 2008 20:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Hemoglobin is measured in grams per deciliter of blood. The normal levels are:

* Women: 12.1 to 15.1 gm/dl
* Men: 13.8 to 17.2 gm/dl
* Children: 11 to 16 g/dl
* Pregnant women: 11 to 12 g/dl

La Push It (Susan), Friday, 5 December 2008 20:31 (fifteen years ago) link

good lord, Susan, do you want to go to clinical for me tomorrow? You have to dress like a smurf (blue and white scrubs) and you might have to watch a circumcision, but otherwise it could be fun.

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 20:34 (fifteen years ago) link

(seriously - THANK YOU!)

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 20:34 (fifteen years ago) link

haha, just googling.

I would *not* want to watch circumcision. I really don't understand why people do that to those poor babies.

La Push It (Susan), Friday, 5 December 2008 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, I don't get it, either (except for I do get that there is a lot of family pressure - my family was absurd about it. Upside was that they "got" that I was the parent of Alex RIGHT AWAY). That is the one thing that would drive me away from this area of nursing...

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 20:36 (fifteen years ago) link

I did have a funny moment once when my sister's son, who IS circumcised, saw Alex peeing and said to H, "his is bigger than mine!!!" LOL Kids were about 6 or 7 then.

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 20:38 (fifteen years ago) link

that happens to me all the time

MINOTAUR FACEPLANT IS ITS OWN REWARD (John Justen), Friday, 5 December 2008 22:55 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm so torn between responses here. Options:

1. stay away from my son
2. soften it up, okay
3. (some kind of witty remark mocking John's penis size)

Sara R-C, Friday, 5 December 2008 22:58 (fifteen years ago) link

I have to get up insanely early tomorrow for clinical, so good night all and happy weekend.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 6 December 2008 03:26 (fifteen years ago) link

went to an exhibition opening tonight, got 5 original sketches FOR FREE!!!

gave j-dawg his birthday presents 2 days early because i couldn't wait any longer.

it's always funny until someone gets hurt and then it's just hilariou (Rubyredd), Saturday, 6 December 2008 08:26 (fifteen years ago) link

I despise early mornings, and ones with snow and freezing weather suck the most.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 6 December 2008 11:06 (fifteen years ago) link

BUT - RR - sounds like you had a fun night last night. LOL about the birthday presents. You gave him all of his presents early?! (that's actually super sweet)

Sara R-C, Saturday, 6 December 2008 11:07 (fifteen years ago) link

aw that's cute!

i also despise early mornings. esp early saturday mornings! 4 hours of sleep (which beats the prior night's 2.5!) makes me zombie. now i go spend 10+ hours in panel all day. wooooh!

very quotatious (tehresa), Saturday, 6 December 2008 12:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Home from clinical, had a really good experience, am now v. tired (b.c. my body never lets me sleep before clinicals).

Sara R-C, Saturday, 6 December 2008 22:33 (fifteen years ago) link

panel was really, really hard. i estimate we had about 25% less money to allocate this year than last. made things really tough and draining. i feel like a jerk, but hopefully we made the right decisions!

very quotatious (tehresa), Sunday, 7 December 2008 03:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Don't feel like a jerk; you did what you could with what you had. You can't do more than that.
