haha the only reason i'm not sure is cos i just reread myself on the kingdom thread last year saying i didnt know what to do with the 'mind reader' remix, and according to the radio the answer all along was just to bang it out cos it's great

love the "shall go" ep so much

hologram ned raggett (The Reverend), Thursday, 3 May 2012 17:44 (1 year ago) Permalink

i feel like the x-tian angle has been much more upfront lately, or at least i wasn't noticing it before, to the point that i've been pausing on buying some of his releases

fauxmarc, Thursday, 3 May 2012 20:00 (1 year ago) Permalink

that's interesting, i thought the opposite - or maybe rather i'd felt it even more strongly in years previous but now cos with him expanding his palette a tiny bit it seems more diffuse and less didactic

or idk it may just simply be as i intimated upthread that he fell out of my scope of relevance for a while and now i'm myopically bang into him again

r|t|c, Friday, 4 May 2012 17:36 (1 year ago) Permalink

i take particular enjoyment from his remix game of late - i guess with any other producer it would be kinda lame the way he blankly steamrollers the source material but with him it's like this sweetly absentminded (but not) father brown thing almost, very amusing

like how he turns this abject bollocks into this for instance

r|t|c, Friday, 4 May 2012 17:43 (1 year ago) Permalink

and as you can see that one takes on a religious vibe purely just out of your awareness of todd being todd

r|t|c, Friday, 4 May 2012 17:45 (1 year ago) Permalink

his remix of wretch 32's 'forgiveness' is another good one, solves the thorny question of wretch by ejecting him from his own track entirely

god had forgotten how truly dire modestep are since my r1 days. their big breakout single i think is the worst pop track of all time.

would love to have seen the face on these schmucks when they received their totally average-ass tune back done up like that

I kind of feel like the track works and the vocal works but they don't work together?

meh

the late great, Friday, 7 September 2012 07:01 (8 months ago) Permalink

Well, compared to the original its a step up. A major one.

Josiah Alan, Friday, 7 September 2012 07:04 (8 months ago) Permalink

I'm still having a hard time believing that this Crosstown Rebels, Visionquest, Hot Creations sound that Todd Burns seems so infatuated with is actually a major thing.

Josiah Alan, Friday, 7 September 2012 07:06 (8 months ago) Permalink

Ooh so slow druggy deep house with OK drums, so amazing.

Josiah Alan, Friday, 7 September 2012 07:06 (8 months ago) Permalink

Ooh so (insert anything here) so amazing.

Tim F, Friday, 7 September 2012 09:01 (8 months ago) Permalink

Dunno, just seems like a very bland and conservative kind of music to be getting all hot and bothered about.

I like Benoit and Sergio as much as the next guy but am so far a little underwhelmed by this "trend".

Josiah Alan, Friday, 7 September 2012 13:16 (8 months ago) Permalink

with you, brah, except I absolutely hate that shit

Tim F, Saturday, 8 September 2012 04:27 (8 months ago) Permalink

it's tough, stuff gets popular. It's not always the best stuff, it's not always the stuff you like. And it sucks that you have to hear this fake shit night after night after night

blank, Saturday, 8 September 2012 04:33 (8 months ago) Permalink

I don't think you can front on Infinity Ink's "Games":

Tim F, Saturday, 8 September 2012 04:40 (8 months ago) Permalink

Or indeed "House of Infinity".

Tim F, Saturday, 8 September 2012 04:44 (8 months ago) Permalink

which is like mid 90s Carl Craig (somewhere between the Jonny L and Aquarhythms remixes) meets garage.
