I'd like to get involved with this. Is it strictly a "hard copy" thing, or would it be possible for the discs to be ripped and then distributed as files via YSI? Or is that going against the spirit of the project?

Hard copy is simply the most practical given the file sizes on the four main discs themselves -- that said, presumably if someone wanted to make a torrent using FLAC or a similar standard, then it could circulate that way. Don't know how useful that would be for the DVD, though.

I'd be willing to create a torrent of these in FLAC, but the source files would have to be .wav files, or else encoding to lossless would be pointless (and not truly lossless)- I'm not sure what the source(s) of these tracks are, format-wise.

The DVD would have to travel separately from the audio tracks on most or all torrent sites, but I guess they could be cross-referenced or something.

Ah, you need to read the thread over, my friend. ;-) mzui was very specific about getting these directly from non-mp3 sources -- there is the bonus mp3 disc, but that was initially separate.

I wasn't clear: I saw that he's recording from master recordings, but if the discs themselves weren't .wav files burned to disc (but instead were .wav --> .mp3 --> burned to disc), they couldn't be ripped from disc and encoded to FLAC and be truly lossless.

*blink* Okay, call me hopelessly naive perhaps, but surely the context of all his posts was to indicate that he was finding those master recordings to burn WAV/AIFF files to disc rather than burning mp3s reconverted to audio files.

Guess what I have in my hot little hands. So anyone waiting for Ned (because I’m burning the DVD’s for him) or myself, the wait is almost over. So if everything goes as planned I will be burning all weekend and get these out on Monday or Tuesday. Thanks for being patient but it’s almost time.

BTW, the DVD kicks ass, we really need a part two to that because it’s so great and also really only goes through The Top era with only a couple of songs past that point.

Regardless BIG props to Mzui for this amazing collection! Thanks also to ILM for contributing the songs to this collection as it’s something special.

And did anyone notice the guy playing bass in the Munich '84 concert isn't Phil Thornalley. It's some guy named Norman Fisher Jones. Who he? Love his Mick Karn'ish head bopping, as Ned noted above.

I can understand your frustration. Things came up all the time so it still took about a month for me to get anything done anyways. I felt bad to these people that I promised because it took that long.

Yez welcome. (I should note that if I knew the angst this was all going to cause I would have refrained from burning for other folk for a bit! I'd volunteer to get them to those still in need but since I've no DVD burner Bee and Onimo are probably better candidates in the end.)

I can make copies. I think I offered somewhere for UK people to contact me to obtain one. If anyone further afield is having trouble I can always send a copy though it would obviously be better if someone nearer offered.
