groundhog's doctor recommended maggot debridement therapy, don't see what the big deal is

I just went straight home. I gave the hell up on the day. Also, thanks Chris! that's exactly what that was!

Whoah that is really interesting. Wouldn't a good soak and pumice take care of that for you, too, though? Seems like a combo of "no ventilation" but also "can't be arsed to take care of self" issue, at least in normal non-tropical jungle circs that also do not involve perpetually flooded trenches of any kind.

"can't be arsed to take care of self"

what was at play here.

some years ago, i knew (by association) a guy who was terrified of acne, because his mother had told him that pimples were caused by and contained parasitic worms. he was pretty seriously crazy. he also thought phone poles were radioactive due to secret chemicals used in creosote manufacturing.

Apparently they're carcinogenic!

My mother thought that ringworm was an actual WORM, and not a fungus or whatever it actually is. So when she got on her breastbone from hugging some kid in her elementary class who had it on his or her head, she was practically ready to vomit and/or scratch her skin off in panic and grossness until I thought to look it up. Poor Momz.

Jesus Christ, the apple tree! (Laurel), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 17:05 (3 years ago) Permalink

I thought it was a worm too when I was younger.

ENBB, Wednesday, 22 December 2010 17:09 (3 years ago) Permalink

fyi, a skin fungus is not any less gross than a parasitic worm

Indolence Mission (DJP), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 17:10 (3 years ago) Permalink

It seems less invasive, to me. But obv not to everyone.

interesting tidbit from some medical report on it:

Tunnel-like spaces were built inside the horny layer, where the bacteria exhibited a hairy surface.

^^^ true

Por ejemplo, I've seen ladies literally pour blood from very personal areas in the confines of a doctor's office and that's nothing compared to looking at the shit in this thread for me.

What the true to life metaphorical equivalent to Tryophobia? Why do people have this fear besides the fact that the finger hole worms/eyes look nasty?
