We were in Botswana looking at a pack of 15-odd, thinking how cute they were and wondering what the smell was. Where your normal dog will mark its territory by running a slash under a tree, these dudes MARK THEIR PACK instead. THEY PISS AND CRAP ON ONE ANOTHER. So that's what the smell was.

What is the fish that looks a lot like the viperfish but has giant, almost opaque eyeballs that are a solid milky white? And kind of a more elongated head? I had a picture book as a kid with a giant full page photo of two of their faces and it was the "scare yourself by turning to it" page for sure.

I just tried to figure this out by doing a GIS for "scariest fish" and I actually succeeded in finding it! Except I got their eye color wrong. It's just their like "help I am a damned fucked up human" faces that are creepy!
