Ms Fahy, from Batterstown in Meath, is seeking an order of £10,000, a Cherokee Jeep and a deposit on an apartment allegedly promised on termination of her verbal contract. She also wants compensation for a list of designer clothes, jewellery and records she says were returned to her damaged by the couple, or not returned at all. She claims she had difficulties accessing her possessions, including her horse, Fern, which was kept at the stud on the couple's 18th century estate in county Limerick.
Well, considering that she was able to purchase all this, I would tolerate much more. Even instrumental Cranberries cds on repeat.

It confused me to read the headline: "Rock star ordered to pay ex-nanny" because I thought the case was about the singer from that defunct hit machine, the cranberries.

Ms Fahy, 34, who has also worked for U2 star Larry Mullen, hailed the judge's ruling as a success.

"I am relieved it's all over and sometimes the little guy can win."
But she lost! The judge dismissed most of her claims as groundless!

You're not General Motors

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 30 April 2004 19:45 (twenty years ago) link

From the Y2Marketing site...

In "You're Not GM," Harshaw points out that the public is bombarded by marketing from so-called "Fortune 5000" companies who drop "a million bucks here, half a million there" on repetitive advertising intended to build distribution and brand awareness. General Motors, he says, spent $3.1 billion on worldwide advertising last year. "That's why they can sing 'like a rock, like a rock, like a rock' and it works. If you spend over 3 billion dollars, you'll get stellar results too." We've become so accustomed to this marketing and advertising approach, he says, that everyone assumes that's simply how it's done.

So THAT explains why the last couple of Cranberries albums are the way they are.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 30 April 2004 19:48 (twenty years ago) link

The lead singer of Irish band The Cranberries has been arrested following an alleged double assault on a flight from the US to the Republic of Ireland.

Dolores O'Riordan was detained after an air hostess was reportedly attacked on an Aer Lingus flight from New York to Shannon, County Clare, on Monday.

Irish police were called to meet the aircraft and during the course of the arrest, a policeman was also assaulted.

It was the fearful night of November 9th.
She was returning home on a transatlantic flight.
She had perceptively known that it wouldn't be nice.
Because in 2014, she paid the price.

She said I just slapped a hostess.
She said I just slapped a hostess.
What a sad and sorry and sickening sight.
What a sad and sorry and sickening night.
What a sad and sorry and sickening sight.

somewhat on that note: When I was playing No Need To Argue around the apartment in the last few days, my roommates commented on how O’Riordon’s voice is sort of the prototypical voice for ’90s female singer-songwriters

one year passes...

In evidence read to the court, Inspector Tom Kennedy said the singer-songwriter's behaviour was at first erratic, then unruly, irate, threatening, irrational and aggressive.

"Ms O'Riordan was very belligerent," he told the court.

"She said 'you are not going to arrest me. I am an icon. I'm the Queen of Limerick, I pay my taxes, I pay your wages. I'm going to sue you'."
