where is everyone today?

tehresa, Monday, 28 July 2008 17:50 (fifteen years ago) link

Busy, the scamps.

Tehresa you must escape. Write it up and leave it and be done with it.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 28 July 2008 18:04 (fifteen years ago) link

Do you have to actually talk to him? Can't you just write a formal epistle notifying him of your intention to GET THE F OUTTATHERE?

Upt0eleven, Monday, 28 July 2008 18:51 (fifteen years ago) link

i think that is what will happen at this point. i have to be careful. anyone in last friday's chatz knows all about my penchant for outrageous resignation letters.

tehresa, Monday, 28 July 2008 19:39 (fifteen years ago) link

How about just "I AM BATMANGGGGGGGGGG" and failing that, try the pencil trick on him.

I have been rescuing sick baby animals this afternoon.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 28 July 2008 20:20 (fifteen years ago) link

I really am going to have to go see that movie, just to find out what this "pencil trick" is.

My big plan for the day is to make banana bread. I might put chocolate chips in it. Wheee.

Sara R-C, Monday, 28 July 2008 20:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, I went upstairs and started to put banana bread together. I must be *really* tired, because I only realized I had the sugar and not the flour out at the last minute.

It's a good thing I'm not rescuing sick baby animals... god knows what would happen. I'm sure you're doing a great job, though, Nick...

Sara R-C, Monday, 28 July 2008 20:37 (fifteen years ago) link

To tell the truth it was really just the one. I found him on the pavement as I was walking to the park and he was there squirming around, eyes yet to open, pink, hairless and bloody muzzled. I called the RSPCA who gave me the address of a vet within walking distance and with the little blighter cupped in my hands I trudged on over there. It was such a hot day I was scared the heat from my skin would dehydrate him; every time he stopped wriggling I was scared he'd gone. It really felt like he could go at any second and that we might not make it.

BUT WE DID! I felt like a bit of an idiot for not knowing what he was but when I arrived at the surgery even the 7-years trained professional didn't frickin' know... But definitely a him.

The nurse (do they still call them nurses?) asked if I wanted to give him a name but I opted not to. If he doesn't die, then I will name him.

I will eat your banana and sugar bread anyway Sara :)

LOOK I'M A MOTHERFLUMPING HERO ALRIGHT? WHERE'S MY PURPLE HEART?

Upt0eleven, Monday, 28 July 2008 21:13 (fifteen years ago) link

So are you going to let this animal go in the wild if it makes it...? Pretty awesome, in any case!

You guys, last time I tried to make this banana bread it was totally inedible. (Of course this time I won't cluelessly double the amount of butter at least...).

Sara R-C, Monday, 28 July 2008 21:14 (fifteen years ago) link

I really am going to have to go see that movie, just to find out what this "pencil trick" is.

It's one of those things that really sticks in your brain.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 28 July 2008 21:18 (fifteen years ago) link

sara GO SEE BATMANG!!!!! NOW!!!!!

tehresa, Monday, 28 July 2008 21:19 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, you just watch J for the rest of the afternoon, then...

Sara R-C, Monday, 28 July 2008 21:21 (fifteen years ago) link

webcam + telephone number for local emergency services = easy.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 28 July 2008 21:25 (fifteen years ago) link

and... he just left to go buy groceries to make dinner. i am leaving in 5 minutes. WHEN TO QUIT!?!??!!?!?

tehresa, Monday, 28 July 2008 21:26 (fifteen years ago) link

i wld watch j over webcam, no problem!

tehresa, Monday, 28 July 2008 21:26 (fifteen years ago) link

She would probably enjoy that, but the problem is this: she is a force of destruction. You can't call emergency services for when she's just, I don't know, decided to cut the hair off her dolls (or cut up her own clothing...). Or write on the walls with permanent marker...

On the other hand, she might be so interested in chatting with you via webcam that she'd be too distracted to destroy.

Rubyredd, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:43 (fifteen years ago) link

u still enjoying the Americas??

wilter, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:44 (fifteen years ago) link

Hi RR!

xp I promise to make you bat-themed banana bread sometime IF YOU'LL JUST LET ME LIVE

Sara R-C, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:44 (fifteen years ago) link

i has missed you all these past few days! i spent most of the weekend in sf with jordan and his mum... WHO TOTALLY LOVES ME, PROBABLY MORE THAN MY OWN MOTHER.

and i got PRESENTS!! she bought me a super nice designer knock-off bag, a scented candle, a bunch of books and a pretty bracelet. and jordan's aunt, who i've had no contact with yet, sent along a really nice card, with a super fancy bookmark, welcoming me to the family! feeling v v spoiled right about now.

AND i caught the BART into sf by myself today! AND i saw my first squirrel!

Rubyredd, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:45 (fifteen years ago) link

i have new foods to add to the americas food thread so i'm going over there now

Rubyredd, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:46 (fifteen years ago) link

hello itr! ruby, i keep thinking about you, i'm happy you sound so happy!

estela, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:48 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm happy... but i'm also getting pretty bad anxiety most days. it's hard to explain. i'm not homesick at all, it's just all been such a huge change, and i'm one of those terribly boring ppl who don't deal well with change and usually avoid it at all costs. i'm having trouble leaving the house on my own, which makes me feel like a big baby, and i'm still avoiding the job-hunting thing, also because i'm a big baby.

Rubyredd, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:54 (fifteen years ago) link

pics of house pls.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:55 (fifteen years ago) link

sorry that sounded like a demand. you are not boring and your anxiety is not in the least bit unexpected. keep talking to your bwoi about feelings and stuff! (and me too if you like? i'll be around tomorrow/now)

Upt0eleven, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:57 (fifteen years ago) link

It sounds like culture shock - compounded (I imagine) by not knowing many people here yet. But I have total faith in you, RR! And WAY TO GO about taking the BART by yourself!!!

Sounds like the future in-law family is A++++ as well, which doesn't hurt.

Sara R-C, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Yes, the BART is a goodness. Your next step is to use the MUNI and go to Arizmendi Bakery. :-D

Ned Raggett, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Alternately, the Farmers Market on the Embarcadero on Saturday mornings.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:00 (fifteen years ago) link

oakland farmers market is pretty awesome, too.

thanks, guys. jordan is great about this stuff, but it's nice to come here and get some support too. nick: you want pics of our house? there's a couple taken outside, of the street view and me sitting on the front steps, that are on facebook. i'm putting all my pics up there, pretty much (just about to upload a bunch from the weekend).

Rubyredd, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:04 (fifteen years ago) link

Ned, you are making me ask myself why I haven't managed to get to the Bay Area for over 8 years... ;_;

Sara R-C, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:04 (fifteen years ago) link

how old are your kids again...?

HI DERE, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:04 (fifteen years ago) link

sara: SERIOUSLY you must come out this way next year. when we start organising a fap, we shall make sure it is at some time of the year that is convenient to your schedule.

Rubyredd, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:07 (fifteen years ago) link

nick i just got the card and i <3 <3 <3 you :)

Rubyredd, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:10 (fifteen years ago) link

<3 U 2

:)

Upt0eleven, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:17 (fifteen years ago) link

xp YES I BLAME THE KIDS FOR KEEPING ME FROM SF (well, them and money, but mostly the kids)

I would love to make it out next year, somehow... my schedule will probably be terrifyingly crowded, but I know we'll have a few days off at the end of March (I think...). Or maybe I could make it some non-"Weekend College" weekend. I don't want to get my hopes up!

Sara R-C, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:34 (fifteen years ago) link

I blame your kids too. All of them everywhere.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:45 (fifteen years ago) link

It does seem like they are everywhere, but I swear I'm keeping them at home most of the time!

Sara R-C, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:57 (fifteen years ago) link

hi ruby! glad your in-law visit was nice!!!

sara, can you not pretend the chocolate chips are little bats flying around the interior of the banana bread cave?

tehresa, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 01:21 (fifteen years ago) link

You guys do make baking more entertaining than ever before.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 02:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Soooooo sleepy. Going to bed now. So early!

Good night all <3

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 04:34 (fifteen years ago) link

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 05:58 (fifteen years ago) link

I wish I could cure creeped-out-ness by watching other movies. Everything would be so much simpler.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 13:51 (fifteen years ago) link

Have you tried? Try watching something like Monsters Inc or Annie Hall.
