Cave - Pure Moods

In what universe is this metal?

Bjorn Cyborg (van smack), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:23 (thirteen years ago) link

if people dont stop moaning jj & I will just remove the heavy rock bit and only allow bands who are listed at http://www.metal-archives.com
so quit moan and get nominating. Minds will not be changed.

I am totally ok with a tracks poll being a bit more loose with the term.
Who else apart from viceroy wants one?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:23 (thirteen years ago) link

I veto the Swans album it would win #1 for no other reason than lurkers and you know it.

"i veto the year's obviously best metal/heavy rock album because it would be sooo boring if the year's best album actually won a poll it qualifies for."

and hey, if a lurker can put together a coherent ballot with 14+ other albums, plus swans, then they can vote! why not?

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:23 (thirteen years ago) link

well it's not the best, its not that fantastic at all.

I want a tracks poll! (Viceroy), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:25 (thirteen years ago) link

then why would it win #1 in the poll? you think a bunch of ilx lurkers care enough about repping for swans in this poll that they'll flood ballots in?

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:26 (thirteen years ago) link

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:26 (thirteen years ago) link

incase you missed this

if people dont stop moaning jj & I will just remove the heavy rock bit and only allow bands who are listed at http://www.metal-archives.com
so quit moan and get nominating. Minds will not be changed.

Henry is adamant it doesn't qualify. You dont want him to get angry do you?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:27 (thirteen years ago) link

I have a problem with the "heavy rock" designation for stuff like this. I mean, it's just there so we can include stoner rock and stuff like that, not things that aren't metal but are rock and heavy in a non-metal way.

Moving Pixels (J3ff T.), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:30 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm vetoing Killing Joke, simply because I don't want that wonderful album sullied by this ego-driven clusterfuck of a poll.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:33 (thirteen years ago) link

okay okay. can we change the poll title, then?

ILM Metal/Heavy Rock & other 'metal' subgenres 2010 POLL NOMINATIONS THREAD CLOSES 31/12 - All are welcome, as long as you vote for albums that we arbitrarily approve them. Oh, and don't worry, one of the year's best albums won't win because we've eliminated it from nominations before we even vote! ISN'T THIS FUN YOU GUYS

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:34 (thirteen years ago) link

lol @ vetoing killing joke

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:34 (thirteen years ago) link

So the Jeff Beck album probably doesn't count either, huh?

I want a tracks poll! (Viceroy), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:35 (thirteen years ago) link

jeff otm

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:35 (thirteen years ago) link

i'd like to disqualify all the albums i don't personally enjoy from this poll before voting begins, so people can only vote for albums i like. i'll post the list of approved albums after i decide which of my favorites i'd like people to rank in their ballots. brb

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:41 (thirteen years ago) link

lol yes!

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Herman, you know I love you. You're a great part of the ILM family, but you doom your own polls time and time again by being so exclusionary and, in turn, making people angry before voting even begins. I expect the countdown will be epic, though, so I'll tune in.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Wilildlife is as heavy as Torche is nowadays.

I don't get why we've included Jesu or Sunn o)))))))))))) or Om in years past but not Swans this year. None of them is approaching heaviness from a metal viewpoint, no matter what they say or what actual metal stuff various players in those bands have done or continue to do.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:44 (thirteen years ago) link

hey FOUR OTHER GUYS vetoed it, ok?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:44 (thirteen years ago) link

And way more than four want it eligible.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:45 (thirteen years ago) link

i bet i can find four guys who agree it should be in & would vote for it

lol xp

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:46 (thirteen years ago) link

Karma to Burn - Appalachian Incantation
Sahara Surfers - Spacetrip on a Paper Plane
Dead Meadow - Three Kings
Hansel - Never Say Die
Stone Sour - Audio Secrecy
Across Tundras - Old World Wanderer

I want a tracks poll! (Viceroy), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:46 (thirteen years ago) link

And Killing Joke aren't metal either. Even if Phil puts them on a year end metal list.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:47 (thirteen years ago) link

wait a min. stone sour??? are you markers?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Skullflower should totally be on there btw -- shit is waaaayyyy heavier than Sunn O))) even

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:47 (thirteen years ago) link

It shouldn't be shocking that a metal/"heavy rock" poll is exclusionary. That's the point. Taylor Swift and Flying Lotus are also excluded, along with lots of other stuff. It'll be more fun if you just quit bitching and let it go.

Moving Pixels (J3ff T.), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:48 (thirteen years ago) link

I've not heard the newest skullflower so i will include them for now.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:49 (thirteen years ago) link

lol @ having stone sour nominated, but excluding several of the year's great albums

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:50 (thirteen years ago) link

ez you want the wildildlife put back up then?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:50 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm not shocked, but I think it's hilarious that people can draw this imaginary line somewhere that's not exactly static. Like I said upthread, it's not like anyone's coming in here nominating Rihanna.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:50 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't have a problem with wildildlife. And if people have a problem with Killing Joke, we can take them off.

Moving Pixels (J3ff T.), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:52 (thirteen years ago) link

anyway i'll come back when i've cooled down a bit. this is ridiculous, we should've let the poll be run either without a nominations list, or without a couple arrogant vetoes spoiling a good number of voters' ballots in advance.

never had such a strict nominations process in 2008/09 btw! i think several of you are getting crankier w/ age

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:53 (thirteen years ago) link

some of those noms were not-so-subtle digs, obv.

I want a tracks poll! (Viceroy), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:53 (thirteen years ago) link

btw i'd like to nominate

Rihanna - Loud

k thx

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:54 (thirteen years ago) link

i <3 u, ilxor

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:56 (thirteen years ago) link

ez you want the wildildlife put back up then?

Probably not going to vote for and I doubt anyone else would. Just had it on my list of heavy stuff I liked this year.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:57 (thirteen years ago) link

There's nothing "arrogant" about my veto -- Swans are postpunk. Punk is not metal(or what is meant by heavy rock here), and postpunk isn't metal, even if there is metal crossover with both, and even if there is some heaviness involved.

Moving Pixels (J3ff T.), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Swans were postpunk in 1985, when being postpunk was still a concern. In 2010, they're Swans. No qualification necessary.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:00 (thirteen years ago) link

everything in this poll is post-punk -- punk happened in the '70s, this is 2010

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Okay, if someone is going to nominate the Ozzy album, I'm going to one up it and nominate a far better album by a rock survivor:

Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe 2

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Then we can have a Swans year-end poll and they will win.

Moving Pixels (J3ff T.), Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:01 (thirteen years ago) link

zzzzzzzz

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Zombi was nominated last year

Bjorn Cyborg (van smack), Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:02 (thirteen years ago) link

and look at the complaints it got (and marnie stern the year before)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:04 (thirteen years ago) link

More stuff that should be DQ'd (Even if I nominated it) according to the nebulous criteria of the day:

Across Tundras - Old World Wanderer - sorry, Crazy Horse isn't metal
Boris & Ian Astbury - BXI - ha ha ha you kid, right?
Celestiial - Where Life Springs Eternal - a rough night in the woods isn't heavy, dude.
Danzig - Deth Red Sabaoth - cat litter is not credible
Killing Joke - Absolute Dissent - Goth
Ratt - Infestation - glam
Torche - Songs for Singles - I like Helmet too, but no
U.S. Christmas/Minsk/Harvestman - Hawkwind Triad - Various Artists, automatic disqualification
Wino - Adrift - Wino is metal, this is not
Wolf People - Steeple - Wolf in the name - automatic veto
Yakuza - Of Seismic Consequence - jazz-skronk

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Zombi wasn't just nominated, it placed pretty damn high. Marnie didn't place, did it?

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:06 (thirteen years ago) link

Wolf in the name - automatic veto

I guess I should be thankful Wolves in the Throne Room didn't have an album this out this year.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:08 (thirteen years ago) link

There goes my Wolf Parade dream

Bjorn Cyborg (van smack), Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:09 (thirteen years ago) link

. Marnie didn't place, did it?

it did

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 02:10 (thirteen years ago) link
