feel like it would be pretty lame if people nominated a bunch of label samplers or something... what V/A comps did people want to actualy rep for?

Princess BigSam (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 22:30 (thirteen years ago) link

we've had Zombi in years past.

Moving Pixels (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 22:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, but just because the dude from Zombi plays on it doesn't make it metal.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 22:31 (thirteen years ago) link

I guess with Swans vetoed I cant allow it then.

Princess BigSam (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 22:41 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't really think swans should be veto'd, it's not metal but it IS heavy and it IS rock -- and the thread says "Metal/Heavy Rock"

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:07 (thirteen years ago) link

they were vetoed

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:15 (thirteen years ago) link

so-- is this also a Heavy Rock poll, or not?

if Swans are not heavy rock, i'm not really sure what is... and if heavy rock isn't included, i'd suggest you get a mod to remove it from the thread title

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:17 (thirteen years ago) link

and if heavy rock isn't included, i'd suggest you get a mod to remove it me from the thread title

― i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor),

remember a mod is co running this!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:19 (thirteen years ago) link

didn't answer my question... heavy rock included, yes/no?

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:22 (thirteen years ago) link

So glad this is off to a trouble-free start!

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:26 (thirteen years ago) link

confusion in the poll title/description doesn't help :/

is it heavy rock? if yes, swans!

not really trying to cause trouble, but what's the point calling it a metal/heavy rock poll if we're gonna veto 2010's heaviest rock record?

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:28 (thirteen years ago) link

on the other hand-- if it's a heavy rock poll and we're vetoing swans because we're afraid some vampire weekend fan might bother to click on the metal poll thread, then submit a ballot with swans at #1, then this is just stupid

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Again, I kind of feel myself with ilxor here.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:30 (thirteen years ago) link

But there runs the risk of non metalheads voting swans #1 just because that's the big ILM band they're all familiar with

exactly the attitude i'm referring to ^^

come on guys

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Vote for anything your candy ass thinks is "heavy." I just said they're not metal.

that's not funny. (unperson), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:36 (thirteen years ago) link

i'd like to veto that nachtmystium album because it was reviewed well on pitchfork and also written about on stereogum and a lot of indie/"hipster" kids read stereogum. no fucking way is some false-metal stereogum reader gonna mess up MY poll results because THEY happen to like nachtmystium!!

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:37 (thirteen years ago) link

okay really though i'm going home, no more time for this

can we resolve this 4real?

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 23:38 (thirteen years ago) link

I want to agree with you again, you know. Swans played at Supersonic this year and and Roadburn next year. An argument could be made that says they're as metal as it gets.

swans are vetoed. get over it and stfu.

cool, dont forget i veto'd nachtmystium too -- they are covered in indie-rock publications, and might get too much of the "lurker vote" and accidentally win our poll :(

same applies to torche, high on fire, kylesa, electric wizard & more btw

oh noes

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:16 (thirteen years ago) link

wth kind of nominations process allows vetoes anyway?

Metal is like porn: you know it when you can jack off to it

Moving Pixels (J3ff T.), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:17 (thirteen years ago) link

boris/torche would they not be better in a tracks poll? thats a 7" right?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:17 (thirteen years ago) link

I mean, if it wasn't released in 2010, sure. But if it's as subjective as Swans are/aren't heavy rock and/or metal, that's ridiculous. It's not like anyone is coming in here nominating Rihanna.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:17 (thirteen years ago) link

adrien & phil did. jeff & viceroy agree

Drudkh - Handful of Stars

I veto the Swans album it would win #1 for no other reason than lurkers and you know it.

we can have a special award for best Swans album.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:19 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah you're right, boris/torche was a split 7"

Cave - Pure Moods

In what universe is this metal?

Bjorn Cyborg (van smack), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:23 (thirteen years ago) link

if people dont stop moaning jj & I will just remove the heavy rock bit and only allow bands who are listed at http://www.metal-archives.com
so quit moan and get nominating. Minds will not be changed.

I am totally ok with a tracks poll being a bit more loose with the term.
Who else apart from viceroy wants one?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:23 (thirteen years ago) link

I veto the Swans album it would win #1 for no other reason than lurkers and you know it.

"i veto the year's obviously best metal/heavy rock album because it would be sooo boring if the year's best album actually won a poll it qualifies for."

and hey, if a lurker can put together a coherent ballot with 14+ other albums, plus swans, then they can vote! why not?

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:23 (thirteen years ago) link

well it's not the best, its not that fantastic at all.

I want a tracks poll! (Viceroy), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:25 (thirteen years ago) link

then why would it win #1 in the poll? you think a bunch of ilx lurkers care enough about repping for swans in this poll that they'll flood ballots in?

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:26 (thirteen years ago) link

i love cave but it aint going in. I think I'll take out wildildlife too, i ordered that record but i dont think it belongs here.

I have a problem with the "heavy rock" designation for stuff like this. I mean, it's just there so we can include stoner rock and stuff like that, not things that aren't metal but are rock and heavy in a non-metal way.

Moving Pixels (J3ff T.), Thursday, 9 December 2010 01:30 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm vetoing Killing Joke, simply because I don't want that wonderful album sullied by this ego-driven clusterfuck of a poll.

okay okay. can we change the poll title, then?

Add as much as you like if you think it's good enough for people to vote for

I'm not sure many others have heard it, or if their brand of prog-stoner stuff appeals to many people, but I love it and plan to vote for it.

well i know them, its stoner rock, so it counts for sure.

I'll be adding as much as I can onto the spotify playlist, and other spotify users should be able to put albums on as well. Not everything is on spotify, unfortunately, especially some of the bigger releases like the new Enslaved, and that Torche album...

So just beforewarned that not everything you can vote for is on spotify. Hopefully the playlist also only contains things you CAN vote for...

Enjoying the Wolf People record, classic psych rock stylings!

Neil S, Saturday, 18 December 2010 13:23 (thirteen years ago) link

More psych goodness: Quest for Fire (thankfully not the Dutch roots reggae band of the same name)

Neil S, Saturday, 18 December 2010 14:39 (thirteen years ago) link

Wolf People are fucking great. Quite a shame they have wolf in their name. They sound nothing like any of those other crappy wolf bands! I love the way the guy sings its classic 60s British folk rock, and then the music is all intense heavy prog-psych with lots of fuzz and distortion and amazing guitar work.

I've got nothing. Surely there must be a dozen or so OK albums we've collectively forgotten about though, happens every poll.
