I'm sorry if my word choice on the title was a bad one... Being a non-native English speaker I'm not that good with the intricacies of different tones words carry. Maybe "tits" would be closer to the Finnish word I used.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes, that would definitely have made a difference.

Tits etiquette (a question for the ladies).

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:50 (seventeen years ago) link

No, 'tits' would be even worse on the UK, 'boobs' is a slightly comical word over here. Really, your word choice isn't really something to worry about, most people will understand from the question that you don't mean offense, and some people will attack you anyway.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:51 (seventeen years ago) link

i hear women say 'boobs' all the time in preference to all the other options, but w/evs

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 08:13 (seventeen years ago) link

'Boobs' is ok. Talking about boobs is ok. Boobs are ok.

Leching is not OK. Judging is not OK.

This thread is fantastic.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 11:09 (seventeen years ago) link

So are boobs.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 11:48 (seventeen years ago) link

boobs is a great word. it's so fun so say repeatedly!

boobs boobs boobs boobs boobs boobs

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 11:55 (seventeen years ago) link

kingfish du lac (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 13:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Shouldn't the thread just have been called "titiquette" at this rate?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 13:13 (seventeen years ago) link

That "Chap Manifesto" -- is it just me or is there something really SOVIET about it? I keep expecting the pattern in his sweater vest to be tiny swastikas or something.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 13:34 (seventeen years ago) link

What would swastikas have to do with the Soviets??? How is pointing out "boobs" is a creepy word "attacking" Tuomas?? Why would anyone bother posting Beavis & Butthead after that amazing Chap thing??? Guys I have a lot of questions, and I want answers.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 13:36 (seventeen years ago) link

This is one of those things we'll never know the full truth of, Ally.

Not Bill McNeil (Ned), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 13:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Laurel has a keen eye and a nose for history.

What I have learned from this thread is that real men want to talk about boobies, sensitive men want it to be OK to talk about boobies, and both groups don't want to listen to women who don't want them to talk about their boobies. (generally speaking)

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 13:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Let's talk about tits, boobies
Let's talk about mammaries
Let's talk about dirty pillows
Jugs, bazoombas
That we see
Let's talk about tits
Let's talk about tits
Let's talk about tits
Let's talk about... *horn stab*

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 13:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I was trolling advice columns about ti-tays and I found this:

Men are aroused by the size of a woman's breasts the same way women are aroused by the size of a man's penis.

Um, not quite the same way, or am I totally off base on this?

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Because, functionally speaking, if I longed for a large bosom to do the same thing for me that a healthy-sized penis would do for a woman, well, maybe I'd be a little odd, and impractical.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:10 (seventeen years ago) link

You're just not trying hard enough.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:12 (seventeen years ago) link

FB, I've known you for a long time now and I find it very hard to believe that you've never wanted a woman to put her breasts in your vagina.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Just get a lady pregnant, not totally impractical.

xpost oh I thought we were talking about squirty squirty, not vadge issues. My mistake!!!

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Dan, you've been talking to my shrink again, haven't you?

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Are we talking about breast milk still?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:18 (seventeen years ago) link

I think so but now I'm not sure...

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Okay you people.

No, no, my brain is a mess of associations in the morning and little rational fact-checking -- that book cover just reminded me of the poster & propaganda styles from etc and etc. Please, don't let me interrupt.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I have that book, I don't think it has anything on breast etiquette

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:28 (seventeen years ago) link

"The one effect ladies should avoid when applying make-up is the so-called natural look, which is a chronic waste of time, money and whale blubber."

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:31 (seventeen years ago) link

OTM!

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 14:33 (seventeen years ago) link

It seems highly likely to me that a Soviet propaganda poster would feature a swastika.

I never fully understood the point in putting on makeup in a manner that makes it look like you aren't wearing makeup; it seems like it would be better to just wash your face (GROSS OVERGENERALIZATION YES I KNOW ECT ECT).

i posted Beavis just 'cuz folks taking pleasure in just saying "boobs!", as evidenced upthread, reminded of him just sitting there relishing both the thought of and the utterance of the word.

Also, as a viral bit of marketing, since the new DVD set is out, i think.

Allyzay will never stop making pancakes (allyzay), Thursday, 15 June 2006 15:58 (seventeen years ago) link

I read "lady pillows" as "lazy pillows," which is perhaps more apt.

The Mary Kay woman who did my make-up at Honfest (bright blue eye shadow and pink lipstick) said that she could teach me their natural look at a later date. She said the point of it is that you do look better, but no one can tell why or what you did. I can't attest to this however, as I usually do just have the naturally natural look. Though I did see a schoolgirl on a Japanese train spend half an hour curling her eyelashes and applying make-up that had no discernable effect, though she did no look great, so perhaps I will defer in this, as in all matters, to the Japanese teenager.
