it applies to the microwave itself.

Geoff, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

yes, you MUST stir the thing. i once watched a TV programme (admittedly back in the '80s when microwaves were new and special and YOU PROBABLY WEREN'T EVEN BORN Graham) that demonstrated how heating milk a lot in a microwave leads to "hot spots" where the molecular structure can get all fucked up and carcinogenic, or something. i am therefore paranoid about microwaves and probably stir my microwaved soup far too frequently. yes i know i am far too paranoid. no amount of scientific arguments from the likes of RickyT will put a stop to it though.

but microwaves have also led to general laziness in cooking and the rise of *bleugh* microwave meals = they are Satans's appliances anyhow.

Mmmmm Tescos Microwaveable 'American' meals. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA oh dear I feel sorry for America when I see those - never mind half of them are 'enchiladas' or 'nachos' anyway. Hmmm yes. I saw microwaveable ready made mashed potato the other day. Even the ANTI-COOK can make bluddy... SMASH.

What shape is the product? If it's a haxagon or a septagon, I'd say you have a problem.

I've never used a microwave.

j>e>l, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Which is probably why there aren't many hexagon or septagon shaped food stuffs. There should be though!

Golden Grahams!!!

Pete, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Kim, do you see why your 'put it in the centre' policy is misguided?

N., Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I see Pete has embraced jel's suggestion.

Like being born early is something to brag about, FOGEY. And how do you expect me to stir a lasagne? eh? eh? eh? EH?

Question for free thinkers: What do you do half way through if you don't turn it around? Do you dial in another 6 minutes as soon as pings, or are you totally punXor and put in 12½ minutes from the start?

(And why has no one invented a toaster that pings?)

Graham, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I always though Golden Grahams were Hexagonat as well. Honeycombs are too, as are snowflakes.

http://www.agentjim.com/ConsumerDisliked/FreeCD.jpgHow so, Pete? No wodner i just thought you were being random.

Graham, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

When she wasn't rustling up Seafood Medleys Pete's mum was nibbling off the edges of Little Pete's Golden Grahams to make them hexagonal to stir his childhood mathematical urges.

Num num Mum. This breakfast cereal tessellates!

Pete, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Maybe they mean turn the microwave around.

Mr Noodles, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I miss my microwave. I am a free thinker who'd rather not be, apparently. Still. I know I'd only put comedy items in it to see what they looked like melted. Toasters do not need pingers as there is that noise when the toast pops that always terrifies me. Yes. I am scared of toasters.

alix, Thursday, 21 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Nick, no. My microwave, despite it's cheapness and mini proportions, actually, like, works, actually. No really, it does. I put the rectangular little box of spaghetti or whatever 'in the centre' and set the timer for the full amount of time, sans turning break, and approximately four minutes later my spaghetti is full of hot steamy goodness AS IF BY MAGIC. I clap wildly (as is my custom) and scream out to no one in particular "Behold! My individually packaged and portion controlled dinner (now with even more flavour) is served!" I do stir, it's wise, but not cause bits are uncooked or crusty - just because the big assembly line sauce squirty thing tends to put the tomato stuff in a big glob on only one bit of the spaghetti, which sucks but is easily corrected.
