onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:16 (sixteen years ago) link

The reaction one re. Britain isn't v funny at all.

Keep watching!

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:19 (sixteen years ago) link

I sometimes wonder how many of these people give stupid answers because they don't understand what the interviewer is asking them. I've met many Americans who have admitted to me that they don't understand Irish, British, or Australian accents sometimes, and they're kind of embarrassed about it because they know they should get what's being said, because they're aware that they're being spoken to in English (note! I am not saying there is anything wrong with this).

Obviously, sticking a pin in Australia and calling it Korea just because it says Korea on it is pretty stupid; I'm simply making a wondering.

Roffling at hideously misspelled subtitles, lol ironing

ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:03 (sixteen years ago) link

It's ok, Americans don't do ironing (the scruffy bastards).

onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:13 (sixteen years ago) link

Happy birthday to Mr. M -- sorry I didn't get to meet him in the 'Dam.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:14 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm SO tired. Tea is not enough. It's only 2.15. I've been here for HOURS! How will I cope with MORE hours?!

Anyone got any good timewasting games?

I will make up for this by working lots on Friday, honest... :)

(happy haps to Mr Monkey, hope you enjoyed CAKEYDEATH!)

Sarah, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Bloons! Bloons is the best timewasting game in the world!

ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Alternatively, picking holes in ridiculous arguments on the internet is good too.

ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:30 (sixteen years ago) link

picking holes in ridiculous sweaters IRL is good to, tho.

darraghmac, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I am currently playing the staring-at-the-computer-trying-to-rev-myself-up-for-going-out-tonight game, but it's not going very well so far. I have a cold and I'm tired and Mister M is getting is Xbox today and I want to just sit on the sofa and look at him play games on it.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Me, I am supposed to be watering a friend's plants and doing shopping and assembling my nice new dressing table that the nice man from Argos just delivered, but I feel really flat and lethargic and can't be arsed doing anything except drinking coffee and getting worked up by morons.

ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Sarah, I will play Scrabulous with you, if that is allowed for gaming purposes at work.

OTM. Must be able to make popcorn and mop sweaty brow as well.

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:43 (sixteen years ago) link

and to extend the love in, the best explanation for ilx name as well. niiiiice.

darraghmac, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:45 (sixteen years ago) link

So hard to catch up here. I love all your posts but when I'm busy in the morning there's no way I can read them all. And when I finally get the time, you'll all be at the pub. :(

d. I watch my guy play grand theft auto and help him navigate.

Misery, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:46 (sixteen years ago) link

The S.O. refuses to play games as I get to shouty and backseat driver-y. That makes me sad.

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:47 (sixteen years ago) link

I need a GTA navigator. I'm hopeless at finding my way around - some dude says "get over to Some Place and kill Some Fucker" and I've got to look at the map *every* time.

onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:50 (sixteen years ago) link

I just leave Neil to his gaming. He tries to make me interested, but it's never going to happen.

ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:51 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah I look at the map for him and tell him where to go. Cooperation, you know. I enjoy that part. I don't enjoy playing it myself so much.

Misery, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:51 (sixteen years ago) link

i'm only allowed play soul blade/caliber with SO, because it's completely random and she can win 50% of the time.

darraghmac, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:54 (sixteen years ago) link

The problem is that my braincogs are whirring at a speed BEYOND slow and I'm not sure if I can take the strain of Scrabulous! I am listening to my limited work mp3 collection (which is way more than I should have really - but heck once I had hundreds, then didn't have any for ages, but now I judge a collection to become more necessary so...)

Oh man Darragh Soul Calibur is AWESOME! I hearts vid games tho. Ooh new Zelda for DS, I'd hit that.

Sarah, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:56 (sixteen years ago) link

i don't think that's something you say about video games, tbh.

darraghmac, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:57 (sixteen years ago) link

except for chun li, obv, but i was 14.

darraghmac, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:57 (sixteen years ago) link

BEYOND slow and I'm not sure if I can take the strain of Scrabulous!

Similar situation. I've been so work-busy that on the rare occasion I can check in on scrabble, I can't spend enough time/concentration to make any decent moves. I am boosting the stats of all of my players.

Misery, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:59 (sixteen years ago) link

Ooh new Zelda for DS, I'd hit that.

I can't get near a DS, the kids are obsessed with gathering Pokemons :(

onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:03 (sixteen years ago) link

except for chun li, obv, but i was 14.

Darraghmac, you are a treat!

Onimo is jealous of pokemon gathering because he wants them too. I would love a DS but I don't take enough buses and SO would kill me if I came back with another toy. I'm already addicted to tetris on my mobile. It has SPEED GAMES PEOPLE!!!

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Onimo is jealous

True. I may end up buying my own DS instead of commandeering one from the boys.

Mrs o would frown upon having 3 DSs in the house but it's a risk worth taking.

onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:10 (sixteen years ago) link

actually, SO wants either PSP or DS for Christmas. that could work out nicely in terms of my burgeoning Pro Evo habit.

darraghmac, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:10 (sixteen years ago) link

I can just imagine them stealing your pokemons, her having to step in and confiscate all the DSs if only to stop your snivelling.

That is how I would be at least if I was beaten by youngies. Another reason to avoid xbox live! (xpost)

Your SO wants a PSP for GTA fun.

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh you can say "hit that" for anything, I was saying last night that i would hit those nordic buns (obvious joke here).

Sarah, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:14 (sixteen years ago) link

My sister spent all three hours of the third LOTR film (Return of the Shite or whatever the hell it was called) going "I'd tap that" whenever the bumchin King appeared. "Hit that" would have been infinitely better!

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:16 (sixteen years ago) link

I can just imagine them stealing your pokemons, her having to step in and confiscate all the DSs if only to stop your snivelling.

We've had to ban video games a couple of times while David was learning how to lose. He'd kick your arse 5 times at Tekken or something then you'd win one and he'd throw a major wobbly.

He didn't actually learn to lose, as such, he just switched to single player/co-op games to avoid further bannings.

I think if I stole his Pokemons he'd never speak to me.

Being bad losers runs in my family.

onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:18 (sixteen years ago) link

bumchin king character- another pointless peter jackson creation to 'liven up' the books, no doubt.

ok, i gotta go do some work.
jol out.

darraghmac, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:18 (sixteen years ago) link

"Hit that" phrasing also has the bonus that if you want to specify that you would really actually hit someone you can get nicely graphic about it ie "I would hit that idiot right in the face with a sledgehammer until his bloodied scab-faced phizzog was in tatters all across the Old Kent Road and that bird from Crimestoppers woz after me with the ROZZERS, you know, something like that.

I'm a bad loser, but I'm an only child so I'm supposedta.

Sarah, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:19 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm a bad loser and terrible winner. Thankfully I don't mind being in the middle...

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:20 (sixteen years ago) link

God, this is so me. I can't play computer games, or any games, with Mister M, because I just get so pissed off and arsey when I lose. Note use of WHEN.

I kind of don't mind if it's a quick game of something and you lose suddenly, or even if you're playing a fairly long game and you were doing okay but now you're not, but I absolutely hate sitting at a table with people playing cards for hours on end and ending up with 1476 points in gin rummy or something while everyone else has 12. MAKES HULK SMASH!

accentmonkey, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:31 (sixteen years ago) link

The S.O. refuses to play games as I get to shouty and backseat driver-y. That makes me sad.

Oh yes, this also happens. "Just try to pick it up, pick it up, why didn't you pick up that gun? You could have shot him!"

"Jesus, really? You think so? Because I thought I'd just fuck off over here and bump into the walls a few thousand fucking times instead OF COURSE I WAS TRYING TO PICK IT UP!!!!"

"Well, there's no need for that."

accentmonkey, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Maybe there's certain days when you just shouldn't go near the console. You know, when you're a lady and all.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Mrs o and I don't play video games together very often since The Bust-A-Move 2 Altercation.

onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:37 (sixteen years ago) link

That sounds very familiar. I was very bad during katamari. I mean how the fuck does one watch Katamari Damacy and get angry?!? I must have been having a bad day. I wish SO would go back to computer games so I could thrash them we could bond... (xxpost)

Countdown to dodgy joke about thrashing each other begins... now.

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Neil plays such stupid long pointless games, I just really can't get into it at all. Also, I have a weirdy mental thing where getting immersed in a false reality makes me upset - people pulling my leg with elaborate stories that turn out to be a wind-up, any theme park ride when you have to pretend to be part of a storyline, that sort of thing. Adopting the persona of a character to fight things and having to sustain it when I struggle to sustain myself some days would have me greeting like a bairn.
