that was another great round , very close too

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:18 (thirteen years ago) link

When Margarito just looks to get on top in a round (esp on the ropes) manny just comes back and Margarito just cant mantain it. But surely someones legs will go even if manny is seemingly clear on points. Manny is the boxer but he's not scared to go toe to toe with a guy much much bigger & stronger.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Whatever the result I think Margarito has gone someway to restore his reputation.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:28 (thirteen years ago) link

Margarito is taking huge punches here but he's not gonna go down. He's certainly capable of winning this fight. Manny has to box here forget the toe to toe (and he's doing exactly that) Whoever is fittest will win this.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:30 (thirteen years ago) link

That eye looks shut. fuck me he's a brave guy. He's not out of this. Got manny well ahead on points though.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Great round from Manny, thought it was gonna end there. I reckon Manny is 7 rounds ahead at the end of the 10th

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:35 (thirteen years ago) link

That round was an absolute masterclass in boxing.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:35 (thirteen years ago) link

I can't believe such a small guy is giving a huge guy a beating

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:37 (thirteen years ago) link

If he was the same size as manny he woulda been down long ago. But man he's tough.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Fraudley I really hope you're watching this.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:38 (thirteen years ago) link

And it's going to the final round. Manny 8 ahead for me.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:39 (thirteen years ago) link

and its over. Manny ,without doubt, one of the greatest boxers of all time.

9 rounds ahead for me.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:43 (thirteen years ago) link

I still think Floyd would beat Manny if they fought right now.

sous les paves, Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Floyd, are you man enough to take him on? If he is, I just hope he doesn't go into his boring defensive style.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:44 (thirteen years ago) link

8th world championship.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:45 (thirteen years ago) link

6th weight. Wow.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:46 (thirteen years ago) link

that was an ass beating plain and simple.

honkin' on joey kramer (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:56 (thirteen years ago) link

yup. But Mayweather is too good defensively to let that happen to him.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:58 (thirteen years ago) link

(sorry I wasn't here for the thread, I went to a bar to watch it in high def w/some margaritas...it was awesome. Margarito showed heart! fighting w/one eye shut for at least five rounds & probably more. but there isn't a fighter alive who can beat Manny Pacquiao in his class, or within one weight class in either direction. he is one of the best any boxing fan alive will ever see. his ring stewardship is spectacular, and his footwork will one day be the stuff that old-timers get misty-eyed about. he hits you coming in...he hits you fading back...he connects circling right...he lands moving left. and he doesn't just land; he lands combos while backing up. everybody wants to see a knockout, but it's like, why would you not want to get 12 full rounds of that such a pure distillation of what the sport's about? fucking incredible.)

honkin' on joey kramer (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 14 November 2010 06:00 (thirteen years ago) link

I also think while Pacquiao would have the fight of his career against Mayweather, there's still no doubt Pacquiao wins that fight. Mayweather's entire style is built on the notion that you can't hit a moving target. Pacquiao's multiple championships stem from the fact that a moving target looks about the same as a stationary one to him.

honkin' on joey kramer (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 14 November 2010 06:01 (thirteen years ago) link

and finally, Floyd's punches are hard, but Pacquiao seriously treats punches like rocket fuel. the harder you hit him the harder he comes back. Floyd's afraid of Manny & we'll never see that fight, but it's interesting to think about, anyway.

honkin' on joey kramer (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 14 November 2010 06:02 (thirteen years ago) link

It's the fight that needs to happen. I think it will, because Mayweather needs it more. Manny is up there with the absolute elite best Like Ali and the sugar ray's etc. Mayweather has to beat manny to get there.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 November 2010 06:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Mayweather's perfect record means more to him than anything though. Manny is the only serious threat to that record he might face. If he loses to Manny, there'll be talk of Manny having "exposed" him, an examination of who exactly he beat & how, etc. Mayweather (and his father) are both super-history-conscious. They're not going to risk what they perceive as the greatest feat of current-day boxing for a chance at glory against a guy who doesn't feel like his legacy & rep will be hurt by a loss.

But yeah I mean at the bar tonight everybody was like, man, this is so hot...the Mayweather fight would be fire.

honkin' on joey kramer (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 14 November 2010 06:07 (thirteen years ago) link

anyway tho God damn that was another dominant, gorgeous, fluid, poem-like performance by Manny P. huge gasp-out-loud moments at least three times per round. and what he did to Margarito's eye. Jesus.

honkin' on joey kramer (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 14 November 2010 06:08 (thirteen years ago) link

Slept on this last night. Great that it went the whole 12, will check it out this week. Don't think Mayweather will ever make the Manny fight - knows he'll lose.

Also in the news - Haye didn't throw a punch for two rounds because he had a bet on himself to floor Audrey in the third.

lol that's actually enough of a quality narrative to justify the crappy fight

sounds like the profile got all of 5 minutes with manny so the profile is pretty overwritten, a stylized wikipedia article

but the descriptions of manny and his life are just kinda O_O

http://www.gq.com/sports/profiles/201004/manny-pacquiao-boxer

(also when they mention the part about the massacre, do yourself a favor and don't wikipedia that if you don't want to be bummed out for the rest of the week)

reading that profile right now... fantastic stuff

You could consider many other elements— that he's a Philippine action-film star, or his weekly sitcom, Show Me the Manny, or that the birthday party he throws for himself and 3,000 of his dearest friends (including several of his former opponents, whose expenses he covers, as well as the country's president) every year is to the Philippines what the Super Bowl is to America, or that he spends thousands of dollars a day feeding anyone who comes to his door, or that he loves to gamble and plays billiards at a world class level—but none of that is required.

On the plane, I asked the Governor about Manny. "Girls squeal" in Pacquiao's presence, he remarked. "Like the sound of a pig being slaughtered!" But after a few minutes he changed the subject. "I have twelve tiger. When I home, I swim with them every day. But now I want to make liger, yes?" The product of a lion and a tiger. "So I bring lion in, and he do this, yes?" The Governor made a fucky-fucky motion with his right index finger and his closed left fist. "And he do, and he do. No liger. And so I make him do, and do some more. And then…acchhhhh!"

The Governor clasped his hands to his heart and rolled his eyes back in their orbits; his lion stud had literally died of a cardiac infarction while being made to copulate for the umpteenth time with one of his tigresses.

"No liger," the Governor said dejectedly.

show me the manny looks not so good. some very attractive women though.

I think Manny knocks Floyd out -- if Shane can stagger him, Manny can lay him on his back -- but I'm a full-fledged Manny cult adherent

I watched the Margarito fight this weekend, my first time watching Manny fight. Manny is amazing! Best technique I've ever seen, I think.

I'm halfway through the fight and it's like jeez, manny has some sort of turbo button in his glove that he pushes when he unleashes a flurry

would not be surprised that manny had the ability to slow time to halfspeed for everyone around him

If you’re a great athlete, but only 5’5” and 125 pounds, your options are pretty limited if you want to make money in sports. Boxing may be your best or even only route.
