"Night Air" is awesome. Can't decide whether I like the original or the Ramadanman remix more.

this is cool, dude is Erykah Badu's bassist on the New Amerykah albums!:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8nuH6SKtNU

would rather it didn't have the SUPER LO-FI production, though.. reminds me of Cody ChestnuTT. Apparently his whole album will be produced by Flying Lotus (!!!) so definitely one to look out for.

Also, don't know if this was posted but it's dope:

Wow that Thundercat thing sounds like it was taken from Stanley Clarke's Journey To Love, it's great. Still making my mind up on Fatima.

mmmm, Saturday, 4 June 2011 06:38 (twelve years ago) link

Agree on Thundercat. I've been digging Bonjay too. That Amalia track is new to me...and it's GRAND.

Brain, love Fatima's "Warm Eyes", cheers for that.

Yeah you did Lex, I remember.

I think I like her in classicist breezy mode more than in #based mode which seems to be her more common m.o. though she's pretty good either way.

Tim F, Saturday, 4 June 2011 07:10 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i agree - best things i've heard by her are her guest vocals on shafiq husayn's "lil girl" and scratcha dva's "just vybe", where she can really get her teeth into a song that stands up

the smoke cloud of pure hatred (lex pretend), Saturday, 4 June 2011 07:12 (twelve years ago) link

Yeaaaaah, loving that Thundercat. Immediately thought of My Mans Stanley Clarke!

Boykins! Loved the album he released a few years back, downloaded this EP but haven't listened to it yet... will have to get on that.

He's really great live as well, I saw him open up for Chrisette Michele.

Sounds like King Britt really wanted to make a Little Dragon/Georgia Anne Muldrow/Kissey Asplund-type record.

http://saturnneversleeps.com/2011/08/yesterdays-machine/

Last track is Italo post-punk, though -- something you could play between the Cure and Klein & MBO.

Whole thing is excellent.

Regarding Thundercat:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk_RfQmV1Zg

This opens the album and it's obviously covered later on, as linked above.

A lot of Flying Lotus fans are going to think the album is garbage, but anything that uses MPS-era George Duke, Jan Hammer Group's Melodies, and Todd Rundgren as touchstones is OK in my book.
