So much wrong with that Decibel list, starting with the album at #1. Hell, their whole Top 10 is all wrong.

I'll post Metal Edge's list tomorrow, when I'm at the office.

0 for 3

billstevejim, Monday, 24 November 2008 04:34 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, I should say "0 for 2".. since I'm not hip to metal.. but yeah, those first 2 lists are bullshit.

billstevejim, Monday, 24 November 2008 04:41 (fifteen years ago) link

The Kathleen Edwards + Laura Marling on Paste is good to see.

hooray for real emotional trash!
not sure how that was received around these parts - something tells me it was very hated, although i think you should all love it.

k3vin k., Monday, 24 November 2008 04:48 (fifteen years ago) link

I liked it a lot.

WTF is with this Girl Talk top-tenning?

Trik Turner Fan Club President (Tape Store), Monday, 24 November 2008 05:07 (fifteen years ago) link

i recently bought Real Emotional Trash on a whim without downloading it first. very surprised in how good it actually is. also bought Studio's West Coast on that Amoeba trip...

Bee OK, Monday, 24 November 2008 05:09 (fifteen years ago) link

i think it's kind of steely dan-y! which of course would certainly be very up this place's alley. i think steely dan/malkmus have a lot in common in general

k3vin k., Monday, 24 November 2008 05:51 (fifteen years ago) link

It's a good thing is Girl Talk charts really well being that I'm writing about him at the moment.

Mordy, Monday, 24 November 2008 06:04 (fifteen years ago) link

seriously, these lists are a joke. does ILM do its own poll?

To say nothing of the Pink omission.

i, grey, Monday, 24 November 2008 08:12 (fifteen years ago) link

You're not really surprised at the Veronicas being left off the lists, right?

Mordy, Monday, 24 November 2008 08:28 (fifteen years ago) link

This is ridiculous! Where is Of Montreux on these lists?

Mojo have their Best Of 2008 in the new Oasis-covered issue, but I can't spot it online at the moment. They have Fleet Foxes at #1. I pass the buck to someone else to type up the rest.

krakow, Monday, 24 November 2008 08:51 (fifteen years ago) link

I like the She & Him album. Assuming it's the same album I heard a few months ago (I think it's the same one). I thought at the time that it was very Cat Powers'esque.

Still no Cut Copy, no Wolf Parade, no Blitzen Trapper, no Jay Reatard.. we have 1 mention of No Age, and 1 mention of The Sword..

These lists can suck a D.

billstevejim, Monday, 24 November 2008 17:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Man, people really do get worked up over lists that were compiled back before the year was even three-quarters finished. I've already turned in a couple lists for polls that were two months early, roughly speaking, and am putting some together before the year is up as well; the way "the year in" has dialed back further and further makes me uneasy. I kind of read them with a grain of salt that way.

Question: I haven't heard Black Milk yet, but is he really taking such a "huge" risk?

Not sure if his beats are risky... but personally, I find them really satisfying.

I think there's a full song on the Cokemachineglow list, embedded track. Did you listen?

she's ok, definitely much better than those people, but if that's the sort of thing you're after you may as well just go get the last roisin murphy album instead, next to which little boots is sort of redundant

'wearing my rolex' fans should also hear 'if you're going out, i'm going out too':

Didn't Christgau in his consumer poll give a 'dud' to the Nashville Scene Critics poll winner Jamey Johnson? Wonder why he hates him so. Maybe he says why in that Slate discussion upthread

Little Boots sounds nothing like Roisin Murphy and more like Hot Chip with a female singer.

that "stuck on a groove" single is better than anything hot chip's done in a long time
