I like that Heee Haw has three e's.
― 17th Century Catholic Spain (Abbbottt), Friday, October 29, 2010 2:21 PM (57 seconds ago) Bookmark
Me too. I wonder how much of the decision to use 3 e's was to avoid infringing on the copyright of the TV show, and how much was aesthetic. And how long it took to make that decision. And if there were arguments for and against, and what those arguments were.

Also missing Sun Drop, a soda so delicious nasty, it still has pulp floating in the bottom.

I feel sorry for non-southerners who don't get to drink Sun Drop. It's not really a fake Mountain Dew since it came first, but Sun Drop is like Mountain Dew to the thousandth power.

"Old Yeller" should be an option
― Darin, Friday, 29 October 2010 18:49 (thirteen years ago) link
Yeah, I like the name Heee Haw, although there's a certain "oh hell, let's just combine Mountain Dew and Mello Yello" thought process to Mountain Yeller that cracks me up. As do some of these important wiki facts:
Mountain Holler is also touted as a "radical citrus thirst blaster" and has a small, but cult-like group following around the U.S.[citation needed] Its taste is closer to Surge than Mountain Dew.
Mountain Roar is no longer available at most Harris Teeters, but you can sometimes find Diet Mountain Roar.
I had a girlfriend who seemingly lived on cigarettes and Sun Drop.

more on the old names, Faygo's original Mtn Dew-like drink was straight up called Moonshine. I remember as a kid seeing it available in the soda machine at Ridgecrest conference center in North Carolina and being curious. I ate a Moonpie there. And dad made me try a childhood favorite of his, Nehi Peach soda, which I hated.

Mountain Holler is an off brand name that always makes me giggle. I recall Save-A-Lot having a very funny name for their knock off Dew as well.

I was only going off Wikipedia + the other I knew about ("Tiki Dew," at one point my brother had twelve 12 packs of it in his closet, which is gross in more ways than one). Sorry for the world's generic groceries that don't have crazy wikipedia members shopping these for generic Mt. Dews.
