I am mildly onimoed, but have NOTHING to do today except take receipt of some furniture and apply for some jobs.

Hello all. I have passed on your happy birthday greetings to Mister M. I made him candlelit dinner last night and we had goulash and nice cake and a bottle of wine TEH YUM.

Then, to be really romantic, we watched some episodes of the Daily Show we had saved up. Impressive, huh?

My German aunt makes the best goulash! That is what you must beat Trish. Plz to bring some with cake tonight.

Pls to get me recipe from German aunt. My version of goulash:

*thin pieces of good, free range, organic steak, browned in pan
*onion rings, mushrooms, garlic, loads of mushrooms, fried up together in pan juices with whole bunch of paprika and some red wine
*sour cream and steak stirred in and heated over
*add to tagliatelle noodles

Aunt would probably die before giving recipe. She knows that I would be an even more infrequent visitor to the dangerous north side if I could make it myself :)

NOMNOMNOMNOM that sounds good. Husband doesn't like mushrooms as he is a fool, but I'm going to make that and eat it all up myself.

Ok can someone tell me the difference between goulash and stroganoff as that looks remarkably clsoe to what I call stroganoff - pretty much the above but with:

a dash of good whisky or cheap brandy (depending on availability) during frying and a 1/4 pint of cornflour blended with veggie stock before the cream. Oh, and remove the wine (to a nearby glass, preferably).

Oh, maybe I meant stroganoff.

I know a lot of people aren't crazy about it, but the bit where the martian tripod first appears in Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds is just amazing.

Off to do work now.

I don't have names for things I cook, I just throw things in pans and hopefully they come out edible. Whatever you call it, goulash or stroganoff, it still sounds nomtastic, and I shall be scoffing forthwith. Possibly even for lunch today.

(wiki says that be more like a stroganoff, you don't put cream in a goulash)

However, you don't put mushrooms in a stroganoff. It would be some sort of variant hybrid of both. Everyone's a winner, and yr food is still nummy.

All this talk of food is making me sad that I am sitting here with nothing more than a slice of buttered toast, also have just remembered I cannot go to the butcher to get some beef to make nommy lunch as I have to wait for the bloke from Argos to bring me my dressing table. Bah.

Yeah, I think in the version I first learned there were no mushrooms, but then, having made it a couple of times I thought, why on earth are there no mushrooms in this? So I started making it with them. Result: improved food. As you say, a winner is my tum.

However, you don't put mushrooms in a stroganoff.

Lies. Especially if you're cooking for veggies - mushroom strog is the way to go.

I never said onimo was a swinger, kv! He is fiercely loyal to his lovely wife.

He may be malleable if there is enough booze and food avaialble - I wouldn't know, I've never tried.
