Haha, I'm fine. Just work anger. should stop expressing it here. Went out for margaritas then home to watch LA Ink. Trade one stupidness for another and it was an okay evening. But I am paying for not working last night as I was here before six today and must work non-stop today. demo tomorrow. Seriously my batteries are about to die.

(oh and I was angry at some stupid overpaid consultant in Houston who passes herself off as a Web designer but sent me code that looks like a teenager wrote it in 1998. And a ripped off logo. "Woman, I do NOT have time to teach you how to do this job. Now stop occupying spots in our job market by shilling your snake oil.")

I'll go away now.

Misery, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 12:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Hope all goes well, Sam, and by that I mean I hope your 'friend' from Houston falls down and breaks her nose.

Michael White, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 14:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes. It would be terrible if some, ahem, accident were to happen.

Hey, I am making a birthday cake for Mister M that has THREE bars of Green and Black's chocolate in it.

GET IN MY BELLY, CAKE!

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 14:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Dear god. Will you bring some tomorrow?

kv_nol, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 14:39 (sixteen years ago) link

ugh klonpin and caffiene are having their way with my concentration. I work so much better between the hours of 5-8. Why can't it be that way all the day.

I'm just pissed my client is paying this consulting firm so much money for total crap. They went to them b/c we (me) don't have the resources to do this extra project along with everything else being done for them. My co-worker pointed out that with permission from my director I could essentially freelance for them on my own time. Which would be really sweet if I wasn't doing my normal projects for them constantly on my own time.

That cake sounds insanely awesome. Do you just melt the bars in with the batter?

Misery, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 14:40 (sixteen years ago) link

3 bars of Green & Blacks??
FULL SIZE??
What sort!
Monkkkkkkey :)

I will be leaving the office very soon. Cocktails will be mine. I will look for a DARK AND STORMY.

Sarah, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 15:56 (sixteen years ago) link

The cake is this:

3 bars of Green and Blacks Dark (or mix in some Maya Gold)
5 eggs
275 g of caster sugar
175g of unsalted butter
a little salt

You're supposed to add ground almonds as well, but I didn't have any.

You melt all the melty ingredients, then add the whisked up eggs, then bang the whole lot in the oven at 180 degrees for 45 minutes.

YUM YUM CAKE.

Will bring tomorrow.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 16:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Will bring tomorrow.

Misery, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 16:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Not quite, bile's about the best consistency we've managed so far.

Ohhh, I wish I could send you cake.

Luckily, though, I got it a bit wrong, and it's not as nice as it should be.

Better eat the evidence

Michael White, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 16:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Is there any flour in this cake?

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:13 (sixteen years ago) link

There is no flour in this cake. It is an Atkins cake. (It is not an Atkins cake. If you eat this cake, it will make you FAT.)

Man though, if you eat huge chunks of this cake with Ben and Jerry's vanilla ice cream, you get the palpitations real bad, it turns out.

And I have to get up at 6.30 in the morning to make a big fry for MM. Good night all.

Happy Birthday Mr Monkey!

I was out last night. I am not so much onimoed as sleepy and in need of miso soup OM NOM NOM NOM

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 08:22 (sixteen years ago) link

I am mildly onimoed, but have NOTHING to do today except take receipt of some furniture and apply for some jobs.

Guilty_Boksen, Thursday, 4 October 2007 09:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Didn't sook yer jacket out then? I stopped off for a wee sneaky one between train and taxi, then poured myself a large vodka when I got in for match-reliving purposes, then promptly fell asleep on the couch as soon as the highlights programme was finished (and you stopped texting me) :-)

xpost to vodka boy

Hello all. I have passed on your happy birthday greetings to Mister M. I made him candlelit dinner last night and we had goulash and nice cake and a bottle of wine TEH YUM.

Then, to be really romantic, we watched some episodes of the Daily Show we had saved up. Impressive, huh?

accentmonkey, Thursday, 4 October 2007 09:20 (sixteen years ago) link

My German aunt makes the best goulash! That is what you must beat Trish. Plz to bring some with cake tonight.

Vodka & Tonic = YES PLZ

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 09:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Pls to get me recipe from German aunt. My version of goulash:

*thin pieces of good, free range, organic steak, browned in pan
*onion rings, mushrooms, garlic, loads of mushrooms, fried up together in pan juices with whole bunch of paprika and some red wine
*sour cream and steak stirred in and heated over
*add to tagliatelle noodles

TEH YUM

accentmonkey, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh my god that sounds so good. So very good. So hungry now.

Aunt would probably die before giving recipe. She knows that I would be an even more infrequent visitor to the dangerous north side if I could make it myself :)

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:01 (sixteen years ago) link

NOMNOMNOMNOM that sounds good. Husband doesn't like mushrooms as he is a fool, but I'm going to make that and eat it all up myself.

ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:03 (sixteen years ago) link

That'll learn him!

Soooo hungry now for stew :(

Ok can someone tell me the difference between goulash and stroganoff as that looks remarkably clsoe to what I call stroganoff - pretty much the above but with:

a dash of good whisky or cheap brandy (depending on availability) during frying and a 1/4 pint of cornflour blended with veggie stock before the cream. Oh, and remove the wine (to a nearby glass, preferably).

onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, maybe I meant stroganoff.

I know a lot of people aren't crazy about it, but the bit where the martian tripod first appears in Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds is just amazing.

Off to do work now.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't have names for things I cook, I just throw things in pans and hopefully they come out edible. Whatever you call it, goulash or stroganoff, it still sounds nomtastic, and I shall be scoffing forthwith. Possibly even for lunch today.

(wiki says that be more like a stroganoff, you don't put cream in a goulash)

ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:31 (sixteen years ago) link

However, you don't put mushrooms in a stroganoff. It would be some sort of variant hybrid of both. Everyone's a winner, and yr food is still nummy.

ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:41 (sixteen years ago) link

All this talk of food is making me sad that I am sitting here with nothing more than a slice of buttered toast, also have just remembered I cannot go to the butcher to get some beef to make nommy lunch as I have to wait for the bloke from Argos to bring me my dressing table. Bah.

ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I think in the version I first learned there were no mushrooms, but then, having made it a couple of times I thought, why on earth are there no mushrooms in this? So I started making it with them. Result: improved food. As you say, a winner is my tum.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:44 (sixteen years ago) link

However, you don't put mushrooms in a stroganoff.

Lies. Especially if you're cooking for veggies - mushroom strog is the way to go.

onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:48 (sixteen years ago) link

I likes me some mushroom strog, or variant thereof, but I defer to wiki for proper recipes and none of yr Americanised versions, I is food rockist (not really, as I said, I usually just make things that may bear some passing resemblence to things that have names)

ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:51 (sixteen years ago) link

Tonight then, I'll make some with AND without mushrooms (the things we do for love, eh? stupid mushroom-hating weirdo) and report back.

ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Ok defer to an encyclopedia written by anyone (mostly Americans) in favour of the "Americanised" BBC, Delia Smith and UKTV :/

If I edited the wiki entry to say MUSHROOMS ESSENTIAL would you defer to that?
