d.i.d.d.y. vs it don't matter if i write rhymes, i write checks

def the latter -- classic beat imo

I think I loved every other song on that album besides both I Need A Girl songs. I always found them eye rolling bad though I loved D.I.D.D.Y., Let's Get It, and the rest of the album. I have such a begrudgingly appreciation/want to stick a fork in his eye hate for Diddy. I'm actually been anticipating Last Train to Paris for an entire year (please kill me).

ross + dirty money >> bugatti boyz

truly blunted rhyme fiend (J0rdan S.), Monday, 18 October 2010 03:55 (thirteen years ago) link

He really should release Dirty Money/Buggatti Boys/Cassie/Red Cafe (is he any good?) around the same time. I think if he went a more low key route (yeah I know *snicker*) his so called new Bad Boy movement would've been executed smoothly. I'm thinking more of a reference of how Janelle Monae has been consensus with her exposure. To be honest, none of the albums will be out of the gate big hits and he needs to stop projecting that. All the music of the aforementioned artists (with the exception of not listening to Red Cafe) have been interesting to good (some great).

Ahh forget about it...he won't do that. I swear Puff is just an idiot.

lilsoulbrother, Monday, 18 October 2010 04:02 (thirteen years ago) link

I mean consistent with her exposure. I'm sorry I shouldn't watch tv at the same time. :P

red cafe is not good or bad, he just is.

Pitchfork.com, a music recommendation Web site (The Brainwasher), Monday, 18 October 2010 04:27 (thirteen years ago) link

how WOULD I have heard it?

apparently it went #5 here tho

Snr Cnst Dick (sic), Monday, 18 October 2010 04:52 (thirteen years ago) link

can't even remember how this goes, just remember that at least one version pithily retorts to J Lo about breathing again, and the MTV Music Awards performance kinda OD'd on acrobats

da croupier, Monday, 18 October 2010 04:54 (thirteen years ago) link

also Usher was just sort of moonwalking and twirling around amongst the chaos, if Jarvis Cocker had ran out making hand gestures no one would have even noticed

da croupier, Monday, 18 October 2010 04:55 (thirteen years ago) link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxpYq-TCT5s

turns out the twirlers didn't come out until "pass the Courvosier". In the blurry upload I can't even tell if Usher is pretending to sing or not.

that is an epic performance

smitty did a lot of stuff for diddy

people hating on diddy - still! - makes me rmde. are we not over our 90s prejudices yet, indie kids. both of these are fab, anyway; i like how they end up as different approaches to seduction, part 1 sweeping you up in sparkly beats and (l)ush melody, part 2 playing it cooler and more aloof. kind of like them equally...maybe part 1 for the better beat?

"first we were friends then became lovers/you was more than my girl, we were like brothers", still a line that makes you go hmmm.

j0hn hating diddy isn't really an indie kid thing lex.

voting for Part 2, but both songs are full of entertaining moments

favorite part of Part 1: Usher ad libbing and vamping throughout the verses and going "OH!" right after Puff's monotone "got a feeling you would like to bone

favorite part of Part 2: "let's make love while we listen to Frank White" -- set aside any opinions you may have about Biggie as sex music and simply look at this statement for what he's really saying: "I'd like to hear my dead friend's voice while we fuck"

underrated bobos I have honked (some dude), Monday, 18 October 2010 19:54 (thirteen years ago) link

"between the sheets" is playing while puffy daydreams about sex in the "come with me" video right before godzilla shows up. Which is basically this scenario one step removed.

da croupier, Monday, 18 October 2010 20:14 (thirteen years ago) link

curious whose idea it was to have that video open with him nodding off alone on the couch wearing a leather jacket and sunglasses, dreaming about fucking in a candlelit room to a song he famously sampled with Biggie. It's kinda sad!
