Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 14:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Edgerton will be bringing out a considerable remainder of her voluminous music collection for this one as well; we just moved and are paring down to essentials to the new small house. Bring yer shekels to our table!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 14:59 (seventeen years ago) link

John Allen's description is great:
Nina Hagen rarities. NJ hardcore classics.

Also Kate/Twisted Village:
Ridin' Dirty. Fri/Sat

Mike of Troubleman:
Disco, Hardcore, Punk, Disco-Punk, all the stuff for the hipsters. The owner of Troubleman Records will be available for autographs. Friday only!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 18:35 (seventeen years ago) link

There's one awesome hip-hop dude where nothing is priced and you're like WOW! because you think they're all 2 dollar records or something then you hand him a pile and he's like, this is 15, this is 20, and you have to put most of them back.

OTM!!

I did buy something off him though ... I think it was Show + AG Runaway Slave

I've only gone to the fair once, it was really hit-or-miss

but fun

dmr (Renard), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 19:00 (seventeen years ago) link

There's a jazz guy just like that. He has a TON of great stuff and they all appear to be just regular LPs for a few dollars but nope. It's kind of heartbreaking.

mcd (mcd), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 19:08 (seventeen years ago) link

HOLY SHIT I'll actually be in town for this. The screenings look cool too:

Kraut Ruben Documentary
Rarely seen German rock! We'll be showing 2 hours worth of excerpts from a WDR German TV series showing some extremely rare, excellent quality videos and TV performances from the cream of 1970's rock scene, including: Popol Vuh, Faust, Organisation, Floh de Cologne, Guru Guru, Broselmaschine, very early Tangerine Dream, and more.

The Fall
Comprehensive BBC Channel 4 documentary documents the three-decade history of Manchester's Fall, live footage, clips, interviews with Mark E. Smith and band members past and present. (60 min)
AV LOUNGE

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Friday, 27 October 2006 17:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Yep, those are both from my collection --- the WDR stuff is amazing, I put a few clips up on our blog recently - it's from a 6 hour special but I edited out a lot of the less interesting stuff (plus all the interviews were in German), try to catch it.

Brian Turner (btwfmu), Saturday, 28 October 2006 01:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Feel the rush of imminence!

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Brazilian vinyl dealer Wolmar Gottschall is currently playing some lovely jams on Trouble's show, presumably stuff he'll be selling at the record fair. http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/20924

mcd (mcd), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:41 (seventeen years ago) link

This will be my first one in two years. Used to be an annual highlight for me when I lived in New York, much like the Vision Fest, but now I usually miss it because I'm nowhere near NYC. Not the case this year. The rent will have to wait! I'll be the one with a gnarly case of pink eye looking for Quicksilver boots and cheap Jerry Jeff Walker LPs!!

Wand Milius (Roger Fidelity), Thursday, 2 November 2006 19:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Best was when Robin Edgerton got rid of all her CDs...

Where I first met forkclovetofu

Robin + I are also bringing a buncha vintage clothing; I'm parting with a few really nice pearl button shirts and she's unloading a slew of quirky blouses and such.

fuck yeah! that shit was a dollar record not that long ago.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 5 November 2006 05:21 (seventeen years ago) link

No way...a dollar record if you were lucky to stumble on it in a dollar bin, which happened, esp since it was cut-out, but dealers have had that at 15/20 bucks plus for years now.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 5 November 2006 06:32 (seventeen years ago) link

gotted at fair:

graham lambkin - poem LP
a handful of dust - concord LP
bruce mackay LP on ESP
david tudor - rainforst IV LP (this was the only expensive one)
rhys chatham - die donnergotter (eighties german press)

and a couple of dollar records.

calvin johnson has ruined rock for an entire generation (orion), Monday, 6 November 2006 00:04 (seventeen years ago) link

that was kinda my point, dan. anyway, hasn't it been reissued? why spend that much money on something that was a dollar until it got reissued? it's not that obscure or hard to find or whatever.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 6 November 2006 01:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I bought a hat.

mcd (mcd), Monday, 6 November 2006 02:40 (seventeen years ago) link

why spend that much money on something that was a dollar until it got reissued?

i didn't know it was reissued recently! also this doesn't even compare to the guy who wanted $75 for the "dirty talk" 12", either.

joseph (joseph), Monday, 6 November 2006 03:40 (seventeen years ago) link

also i didn't see morbs. (got there too late on saturday for the fall doc)

joseph (joseph), Monday, 6 November 2006 03:46 (seventeen years ago) link

i won a sticker

If you fuck with Jimmy Mod, you call down the thunder (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Monday, 6 November 2006 04:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I wouldn't pay more money for vinyl when Press Color on CD is cheaper, but the point I was making was that it wasn't a dollar record. I mean, I found a 100 or something dollar hip-hop record in the dollar bin, that doesn't make it a "dollar record"! Press Color was cut-out and would pop-up occasionally in NY dollar bins 5 or 10 years ago but was still generally sold for for 15 or 20 bucks on the internet.

Joseph...you talking about the dreadlocked guy? He had these amazing old-school electro/hip-hop record for 50+ so I stopped looking, then someone told me he had some fuzz dance and italo record as well, and I didn't even bother going back to look. Simonetti had a copy of Dirty Talk on friday night, probably affordable.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 6 November 2006 05:27 (seventeen years ago) link

and no, I wasn't buying records on the internet 10 years ago. 8 years maybe. rec.music.marketplace.vinyl or whatever! got like, 8 Sparks records for a dollar a piece!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 6 November 2006 05:37 (seventeen years ago) link

that's the one, dan. i did get the "change the beat" 12" from him for (relatively) cheap at least.

joseph (joseph), Monday, 6 November 2006 05:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I love Change the Beat...you have to get all of those records, Laswell/Celluoid had a series of hip-hop releases w/ the Futura artwork, like the Time Zone-Wildstyle 12" and Phase II's At the Roxy. There's also a few B-Side/Odeon 12"s that are a lot of fun, she being the french rapper all over these records.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 6 November 2006 13:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Really bummed I missed it this year, but seriously, last time I went I had a list of a ton of records I wanted... Didn't work out so well. I would hand it to the dealers with sad puppy eyes and they'd stroke their long psyche/metal locks and say, "Oh, that's in my personal collection..."
