"who were the first churchburners? how much more destructive were they?"
Yes, but it's somewhat amusing that for all his glorification of chaos and destruction in the end he just complains that "the Christians did it before".

I think his philosophy is more of a "take the power back" one, not a "they did it first, so why not?" one. The dude is crazy, though. He believes aliens came to Earth and mated with Aryan women to produce a more perfect race!
And thanks, John, it had a similar effect on me when I watched the movie, that's why I started making them in the first place.

Here's true madness:
The Pope's Pears: The vaginal pear was used on woman who had sex with the Devil or his familiars. The rectal pear was used on passive male homosexuals and the oral pear was used on heretical preachers or lay persons found guilty of unorthodox practices. Inserted into the mouth, anus or vagina of the victim, the pear was expanded by use of the screw until the insides are ripped, stretched and mutilated, almost always causing death. The pointed ends of the 'leaves' were good for ripping the throat, intestines or cervix open.

you're right, when you disagree with someone you must not, ever, discuss the content of their beliefs or allow that some points may be interesting, even if repellent.

you're attributing too much to Varg's 'beliefs' here. it's not really interesting or compelling at all. i could very well throw a Jew on a cross and say 'they did it first, they deserved it'.
i have no problem discussing his philosophy, i just find it unfortunate that we're giving it some amount of credence when it's so obviously idiotic and heinous.

Varg refusing to post anymore to teh internets, according to his webmaster, due to purported copyright infringers. He also said something like "I was going to sink into obscurity anyway when released, so I will just go ahead and start now."
He's eligible for parole in April.
― roxymuzak, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 19:44 (sixteen years ago) link
He was jailed in 1993 and according to customs here, he will probably be free soon. As it is unusual for Norwegian prisoners to serve more than about two thirds of the sentence in jail. He got 21 years, which means those 14 years have passed soon.

And I suspect he's quite the drama queen. The tales of his adventures around here in the early 90's are almost too good to be true.

Let's not be disingenuous-- there's a serious problem with white supremacy in metal, more than in other genres, and no matter how hard some people here try to wave it off, it's worth discussing.
― "Bi" Dong A Ban He Try (the table is the table), Thursday, 17 December 2020 13:21 (three years ago) link

Of all the genres I listen to, metal is the only one where every time I come across a new band I like, I pray (to the loathsome Judeo-Christian God iirc) that its members aren’t neo-nazi edgelords, especially if it’s BM we’re talking about. I’m comfortable with drawing a distinction between assholes and their art at least 99% of the time (and this is a concern that greatly exceeds the metal sphere) but I strive to avoid purchasing fash-stained goods, especially if their makers are still alive and spewing their moronic bile on Twitter unchecked.Btw Varg’s latest LP was quite mediocre.

Barney Greenway — and indeed Napalm Death more broadly, since there's never been a story about one member disagreeing with the others on politics. (Their late guitarist Jesse Pintado was also a member of Resistant Culture, a Native American grind band whose albums Welcome to Reality and All One Struggle are excellent.)

metal is my favorite genre and yet I have no trouble saying it has a major problem with racism/nazism/fascism/misogyny that I've basically had to spend almost the entirety of the time I've been listening to it fighting against this element.
yeah, liberal/antifa/BLM/progressive/good people metal is also a think and it exists, but I don't think we need to tiptoe around the fact that we have some real lowlifes in the genre. fans and bands both.

i also love metal and i don't listen to very much black metal, and i feel like i am more likely to find ppl who would punch nazis than ppl who would be nazis at things like maryland deathfest and etc. this is my experience of the genre. i'm not really trying to express "#notallmetal" here, all of this stuff deserves to be interrogated and the racists and fascists need to be rooted out and deplatformed, obviously. i'm sort of sorry i even said anything
