I was gonna say... Streisand used to be quite the little morsel.

Haha, that is the best negligee.

one of her husbands was a bad hairdresser, I think.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 22:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Huh. It's been quite a long while since I've thought to physically objectify Barbra. Each day is full of mystery, innit?

kenan, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 22:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Anyway, like I was saying, I don't much care for her version of Send in the Clowns. Judy Collins gets the sad part across, and has a wilting blossom quality; Frank does my favorite version, sounding kinda pissed off but too sad and tired to do anything about it; and Barbra sounds merely professional. It's not a BAD version of the song, it just seems that she didn't bring anything to it besides Barbra-ness. At which I shrug.

Aw man, not enough bodies on the dance floor, eh? I hope they let you finish your set at least. Maybe they're hiring at the Admiral, though the dancers get to pick most of the songs for themselves.

Eazy, Thursday, 3 January 2008 00:41 (sixteen years ago) link

haha not that job ... i wish that was full time

deej, Thursday, 3 January 2008 00:44 (sixteen years ago) link

deej, Thursday, 3 January 2008 00:44 (sixteen years ago) link

I was picturing you playing Special Ed's "I Got It Made" or something, and the manager pulling the plug and firing you, then putting on "Oh What A Night!" as the dance floor fills up...

i could be convinced, but feel sorta crappy at the moment. bacon was.....a bad idea??

gbx, Thursday, 3 January 2008 01:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Kenan, it should come as no surprise that you would find Streisand hot, ya know what I mean?

xpost - Bacon?

Jesse, Thursday, 3 January 2008 01:47 (sixteen years ago) link

the food. i had it for breakfast and went home early from work feeling shitty, thinking it might have just been residual hangover from new year's (oy), but then i felt better. however, i also put some in the sauce i made for dinner and now feel similarly shitty.

uhoh trychinosis!

gbx, Thursday, 3 January 2008 01:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Huh. Does trychinosis act that quickly? Was it old bacon? Did you have it tartare?

Jesse, Thursday, 3 January 2008 01:53 (sixteen years ago) link

deej, if you don't have it, pick up the eccentric soul: the deep city label comp from numero group. first two sides have me staring slack jawed at my turntable.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 3 January 2008 01:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, Evan, how about that neighborhood map that I emailed you about? Any idea where it lives? (The funny Chicago neighborhood map that labels the West Loop "Smells like chocolate")

Jesse, Thursday, 3 January 2008 01:55 (sixteen years ago) link

oh you know i haven't checked that acct in a while, sorry!

i think i have that map on my computer. will check.

also: kidding about trychinosis, but not about the bacon. something is.....wrong. but i fried it up all crispy! and it only came out of the freezer like two days ago!

gbx, Thursday, 3 January 2008 01:59 (sixteen years ago) link

thanks man i'll check it out ... altho i am not exchanging currency for it.
im hoping to get free beers tonight

jesse, i was working at a v. poorly run non-profit (or as i say during interviews, 'non-profits are not really the direction i'm looking for right now.')

deej, Thursday, 3 January 2008 02:02 (sixteen years ago) link

I would buy you a beer if I were going where you're going. But I will will one your way instead.

I used to have a bookmark for a site selling Army/Navy surplus pairs of the standard paratrooper winter boots in WHITE. I think I've lost it now, though.

Laurel, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 17:20 (sixteen years ago) link

This looks super-sloppy because I had to doctor an existing map of wards, but I thought this might be interesting:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2309/2246957518_bef606d8ea.jpg?v=0

Pink = Wards that Clinton won
White = Wards that Obama won by 50-80%
Gray = Wards that Obama won by more than 80%

jaymc, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 17:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Eric I hope I miss that sale b/c however cheap, I have already blown my clothing budget for the month (cool Steve Madden shoes, Express coupon for $30 off $100 purchase (awesome pants, nice shirt) and now the boots). Zappos makes shopping way too easy!

interesting map!

Jesse, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 17:31 (sixteen years ago) link

what is up with the 10th ward, is it basically just indiana?

n/a, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 17:33 (sixteen years ago) link

i'm in that narrow strip of the 32nd ward so i don't have the same alderman as any of my friends in the neighborhood. i remember last spring when i was at inner town they had a petition going around to try to stay open because a neighbor bought a condo next door and was trying to get them shut down. i couldn't sign despite living two blocks away.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 17:38 (sixteen years ago) link

i love how o'hare has representation. in case anyone is thinking about taking up residence at the wolfgang puck's in terminal b you will be voting in the 41st ward.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 17:39 (sixteen years ago) link

I bought an awesome pair of shoes at Giraudon on Milwaukee over the weekend. 70% off for their going out of business sale.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 17:41 (sixteen years ago) link

The map shows what's happening nationally: Clinton is winning support among Hispanics (Pilsen = 25th ward, Little Village = 22nd) and older and working-class whites (Bridgeport = 11th, Jefferson Park = 45th); Obama is winning support among blacks (pretty much all the gray on the map consists of majority-black neighborhoods) and young college-educated whites (Lincoln Park = 43rd, Wicker Park = 1st, etc.).

Jordan, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 18:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Jordan, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 18:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Where will you stay Jon?

Jesse, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 18:46 (sixteen years ago) link

I bought yet another pair of shoes last night as well. I was trying on trousers, and realized that of all my damn shoes, I don't have a single presentable pair of brown ones.

Crazy. For real? How can it be so much worse than here? Surely you can plow your way out?

Jesse, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 18:49 (sixteen years ago) link

(the brown oxfords were $30 on amazon, btw. And since the last pair of Kenneth Cole shoes I bought on Amazon in that size fit like a glove, I am hoping that these will, too.)

Yum

Jesse, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 18:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh no! I wd not ever want to be stuck at the office!!

I've tried and tried to work out the brown shoe problem but for me there are SO many shades and values of brown that one pair never goes with all my wardrobe items in the brown/russet/autumn family. I gave up and have replaced brown shoes with either metallic ones (like a distressed bronze color) or I just wear brown clothes with colored shoes in red, yellow, whatever.

I do like those boots, Jesse.

Laurel, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 18:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Very much agreed, those boots are the snazz.
