Public Disturbance was all right, though I was confused to discover it wasn't a DVD despite the packaging.

That was a live one, I think. There's a lot of those too. I'm sad that I missed the now-typical Pink Dots double-vinyl-with-4th-side-not-on-the-CD version of this. The fourth side had nine Ka-Spel loop tracks, which I would probably love. Long Red Ladder... comes with not only a bonus 4th side, but an entire 'nother album with the first 200 copies!

There is also an actual DVD coming out of a LPD show from 1987.

I STILL say that tear garden's sheila liked the rodeo and the last man to fly are underrated (or more likely never heard by people who would like them) and that they should get more credit for pioneering the healthy electro-industrial psych-folk scene that we all enjoy today. if, in fact, there is such a scene. even to be an angel blind, the crippled soul divide had its moments. knowwhatimean? the good thing is, you can find all of these CDs for a dollar. i would totally encourage someone to buy the last man to fly for a dollar. maybe even five dollars. okay, i'm leaving.

For sure. And yes, that scene should sorta exist somewhere, and sorta does. (Stone Breath, Unto Ashes...sorta.)

I only know one track, from a Soleilmoon sampler I got with a recent order, BUT I listened to it while in an airplane severely sleep-deprived last week and it completely kicked my ass! The guitar sound was fuckin raspy and the corny-ass vocals kicked my ass. A+.

tanith and the lion tree is really, really weird. i hated it the first time i heard, 7 or 8 years later it sounded like twisted genius. i like most of his solo stuff (i thought "o'er a shalabaster tyde" was at least interesting) but i'm definitely more of an LPD fan, i suppose, especially the string of reissued early cassettes.

I really love "Tanith and the Lion Tree".

John Justen (johnjusten), Saturday, 24 September 2005 23:08 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, I didn't mean by placing those records in my bottom three that they were BAD or anything... just not the ones I'd recommend first.

sleeve (sleeve), Sunday, 25 September 2005 00:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm a big Tanith fan, too. You're right to put Chyekk China Doll near the top, though. The Tear Garden stuff will move up a position on my listen-to list, thanks to this thread.

one year passes...
I AM GOING TO LISTEN TO TANITH AND THE LION TREE AND THE LAST MAN TO FLY AND TO BE AN ANGEL BLIND, THE CRIPPLED SOUL DIVIDE TODAY. OKAY?

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 20 January 2007 17:13 (seventeen years ago) link

excellent, Scott.

I am going to listen to the new Ka-Spel double LP "Fragments Of Illumina" while pickled in mind-altering substances. We will be brothers together in psychedelic electronica.

Those later Tear Garden records get overlooked, but I like them.

This is also where I note that Beta-Lactam is slowly reissuing all of Ka-Spel's old records, a most welcome development.

i might even play tired eyes slowly burning too even though it's not one of my faves. i haven't played it in years though, maybe i'll like it more now.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 20 January 2007 19:13 (seventeen years ago) link

That is my fave Tear Garden fwiw.

tell us more!

btw, this new Fragments Of Illumina record is HEAVY, the best thing I've heard from Ka-Spel in a few years. Even an entire side (side two) of him fucking around with whatever esoteric equppment he's using these days sounds good. Awesome double LP art/packaging, too.

I've been rocking the shit out of "In Search of My Rose" recently. I certainly need to listen to more.

Chaki, what the hell, how dare you not tell me these things.

i would still like to hear more about this!

I have not heard Ka-Spel's latest, supposedly in a more noisy musique concrete style.

this guy is a hero

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 18 August 2007 02:35 (sixteen years ago) link

I wanna hear some Tear Garden some time. I know I would like them, I like LPD and Skinny Puppy and oGhr.

Trayce, Saturday, 18 August 2007 02:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Wait hang on, Ive heard "In Search of my Rose" before, you've played on WREK havent you Curtis?

Trayce, Saturday, 18 August 2007 02:43 (sixteen years ago) link

three years pass...

so the new split LP with The Silverman "Thirty Year Itch" is not one of their best efforts, I'm afraid. too much spoken word, not enough shimmery synths. maybe it will grow on me.

CD reissue of Chyekk is out and the remastering is a noticeable improvement like the others in the series. Bonus tracks are still weirdly off from the old Staalplaat CD version, but I think it's because they went with stuff from the same time period instead of the '94 tracks on the 1st reissue.

upcoming ltd. CD and art edition LP on Beta-Lactam - judging from the samples, this is gonna be a great rekkid, esp. "Motorik". yes.

such an incredible run of releases during the pandemic years, all worth a listen. eight 2021 full-lengths, four so far this year (I think, check his Bandcamp)

also, Chaki posted a picture of Tanith (mentioned upthread) rocking out to his show recently in Seattle! how time flies.

I'll never catch up completely but must endeavour to dig in more. "Songs Of Solitude" was easily one of my post listened to albums during 2021. So good.
