It is Mister M's birthday on Thursday, and there is nothing he wants. We are going to a gig in the evening (with Emsk! And possibly the Pinefox!) and I am taking him out for dinner beforehand. I am also planning to get up early to make him a lovely fry-up for his breakfast. What else should I do (apart from the usual rude suggestions)?

apart from the usual rude suggestions

haha, take him for a massage. Non-rude variety.

Misery, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Nooo! He does not like being massaged. He also hates sitting in the bath and having a haircut. I think he just gets bored very, very easily if he can't read or see a computer.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:20 (sixteen years ago) link

sitting in the bath and having a haircut

I thought you meant doing this at the same time which sounded very odd.

Misery, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Monkey: Dublinia. Why not?

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:32 (sixteen years ago) link

just do all the things he normally feels guilty about doing because you're there!

this is probably just me though, and mainly involves watching football.

darraghmac, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Does the thread title mean we can spam the board with our new blog posts? Fiery Furnaces review & Blow Jobs interview at RogueMag. Muahahaha!

the next grozart, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:43 (sixteen years ago) link

By the way - I really really really need a job. Anyone know any publishing/media/related companies in London who don't pay peanuts and who need someone with only a bit of experience but with a lot of enthusiasm?

the next grozart, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:44 (sixteen years ago) link

try the daily mail?

darraghmac, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:46 (sixteen years ago) link

I know of a DJ job at a hip-hop station in Dallas. You have to make an audition video though.

Misery, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:13 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh and an update for those putting in work, my brother is currently ranked number 7. This week and next they are interviewing the top ten so as long as he stays in, he'll get an interview at least.

Misery, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Jesus! How the hell are the others staying ahead?!

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:16 (sixteen years ago) link

They're probably all unemployed and have 20 million myspace friends. Actually I think you could write a javascript to keep refreshing. Hmm I shall have to think of how this would work. I wonder if the site maintainers would pick up on such shenanigans.

Misery, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Salad of all the gingers:

Fresh grated ginger
Ginger syrup
Chopped stem ginger
Ground ginger
Ginger wine!

And my friends bought me back some ginger liquer from Kernow so next time I make the cake there will be EVEN MOAR.

Sarah, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 15:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow, I don't know if I could take so much ginger. I had some ginger gelato once which was nice in it's near-hotness.

Misery, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 15:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Sarah have you ever had a dark and stormy? A friend was telling me about them last night and I must say, even though I'm not a huge fan of rum, it sounded tempting. She had one with ginger beer instead of ale, served up with a thin ginger wedge garnish and it sounded tatsy.

Michael White, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 15:51 (sixteen years ago) link

I have an ATP surprise for people that includes ginger (not cake or sossidge related).

aldo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 16:19 (sixteen years ago) link

With ginger beer or ginger ale? Obviously I have both, (I never realised I was such a ginger freak omg my first boyfriend was ginger, perhaps it is his CURSED LEGACY - could be worse I guess). Sounds good, I don't have any rum at the moment though. MUST CORRECT. Nice bottle of Mt Gay, see you nice that will. I suppose I could try with both beer and ale, in the interests of science like.

Aldo I am not sure if I wanna kno...

Sarah, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 16:46 (sixteen years ago) link

I emailed you thru here Sam, so let me know if you don't get it.

That ginger cake sounds AMAZING, Sarah - good lord, I'm nearly drooling over here.

luna, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 17:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Argh forgot about Heroes again! This better be a quick downloot. I've been so slack with Heroes that I've still not been able to click on the thread since the new season started.

onimo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 17:50 (sixteen years ago) link

I emailed you through here, too, Sam, but if that doesn't work I think, as a friend, you can see my address on facebook.

onimo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:13 (sixteen years ago) link

Have you ever had a headache that made it feel as though your head was a soft boiled egg getting the top banged off with a spoon?

luna, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:45 (sixteen years ago) link

:(

With me, it always feels like someone has banged a couple of railroad spikes into my temples.

Michael White, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:50 (sixteen years ago) link

I've had those, too - I have lots of different kinds, really, but this one is sort of new.

luna, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:54 (sixteen years ago) link

can't talk. so angry. need tequila fusion immediately.

Misery, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:58 (sixteen years ago) link

I shall use a version of that line later today, myself, Mis.

So, it's the top of your head, Luna? I've only had that from smacking my head (or having it smacked).

Michael White, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 20:09 (sixteen years ago) link

Is it ginger crack? It's ginger crack, isn't it?

Hey, I just saw that Michael Clayton film. It was good.

What's up, bebe?

luna, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 23:34 (sixteen years ago) link

xpost

aldo, answer the woman - if it's ginger crack, we need to know.

(a joke is brewing here concerning a regular member of our ATP party which I don't think I'll develop any further...)

Guilty_Boksen, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 08:07 (sixteen years ago) link

World = a pain in the face right now.

Sam, what's up?

kv_nol, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 08:12 (sixteen years ago) link

IT IS NOT GINGER CRACK. IT IS BOUZE RELATED.

Sam, you OK?

aldo, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 08:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Earth to Sam, is everything OK?

(I realise it is stupid o'clock in the morning in Texas, but concern knows no timeline)

I still haven't watched last week's Heroes - visiting parents and anniversary boozing and RonanFAP etc have done for my TV watching. My Sky+ planner is full of stuff and I have no idea when I'm going to watch it all, then there is Heroes too. Heroes overdose tomorrow though, hurrah!

ailsa, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 09:47 (sixteen years ago) link

This sounds bad.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:13 (sixteen years ago) link

Sounds like me after 50% of working days, except replace 'tequila' with 'beer' :)

Hope things recovered a bit now Sam.

WHY THE FUCK ISN'T IT LUNCHTIME FOR FUCKS SAKE ARGH

Sarah, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Only 50%? You're doing better than me, I can't remember the last time I didn't.

aldo, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Poor Sam. IF YOU NEED COMPANION FOR KILLING SPREE I WILL JOIN YOU LONG DISTANCE! LET US MAKE THEM REMEMBER THE NAMES KVLOL & MISERY 4 EVA!!!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:35 (sixteen years ago) link

When it gets to 100% of days, you are officially me.

ailsa, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:44 (sixteen years ago) link

otoh Sarah mentioned lunchtime and a pint is looking better than food.

aldo, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Haha, I'm fine. Just work anger. should stop expressing it here. Went out for margaritas then home to watch LA Ink. Trade one stupidness for another and it was an okay evening. But I am paying for not working last night as I was here before six today and must work non-stop today. demo tomorrow. Seriously my batteries are about to die.

(oh and I was angry at some stupid overpaid consultant in Houston who passes herself off as a Web designer but sent me code that looks like a teenager wrote it in 1998. And a ripped off logo. "Woman, I do NOT have time to teach you how to do this job. Now stop occupying spots in our job market by shilling your snake oil.")

I'll go away now.

Misery, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 12:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Hope all goes well, Sam, and by that I mean I hope your 'friend' from Houston falls down and breaks her nose.

Michael White, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 14:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes. It would be terrible if some, ahem, accident were to happen.

Hey, I am making a birthday cake for Mister M that has THREE bars of Green and Black's chocolate in it.

GET IN MY BELLY, CAKE!

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 14:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Dear god. Will you bring some tomorrow?

kv_nol, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 14:39 (sixteen years ago) link

ugh klonpin and caffiene are having their way with my concentration. I work so much better between the hours of 5-8. Why can't it be that way all the day.

I'm just pissed my client is paying this consulting firm so much money for total crap. They went to them b/c we (me) don't have the resources to do this extra project along with everything else being done for them. My co-worker pointed out that with permission from my director I could essentially freelance for them on my own time. Which would be really sweet if I wasn't doing my normal projects for them constantly on my own time.

That cake sounds insanely awesome. Do you just melt the bars in with the batter?

Misery, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 14:40 (sixteen years ago) link

3 bars of Green & Blacks??
FULL SIZE??
What sort!
Monkkkkkkey :)

I will be leaving the office very soon. Cocktails will be mine. I will look for a DARK AND STORMY.

Sarah, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 15:56 (sixteen years ago) link

The cake is this:

3 bars of Green and Blacks Dark (or mix in some Maya Gold)
5 eggs
275 g of caster sugar
175g of unsalted butter
a little salt

You're supposed to add ground almonds as well, but I didn't have any.

You melt all the melty ingredients, then add the whisked up eggs, then bang the whole lot in the oven at 180 degrees for 45 minutes.

YUM YUM CAKE.

Will bring tomorrow.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 16:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Will bring tomorrow.

Yessssssss!!!!

Misery, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 16:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Not quite, bile's about the best consistency we've managed so far.

Ohhh, I wish I could send you cake.

Luckily, though, I got it a bit wrong, and it's not as nice as it should be.
