BATMANG

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 21:47 (fifteen years ago) link

unemployment is (perversely) prohibitively expensive. although i did discover today that it is considerably cheaper to go to the cinema during office hours.

so have you had the interview tehresa? how'd it go? i have another one tomorrow. unlike the two last week I'm pretty confident I could actually do this job.

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 23:06 (fifteen years ago) link

for real, though; BATMANG

HI DERE, Thursday, 24 July 2008 00:53 (fifteen years ago) link

BATMANG

xp good luck with your interview, Nick!

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 01:09 (fifteen years ago) link

Whoa, just finished watching Sweeney Todd.

Pretty good!

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 03:33 (fifteen years ago) link

Guys.
BATMANG.

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 04:32 (fifteen years ago) link

good luck on your interview, nick!

mine was this am. went very well. am feeling hopeful for 2nd round (and hoping that his mention of 2nd round is a sign i'd be a candidate, - why talk about 'next steps' if uninterested, right? please say yes).

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 05:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Yes on the BATMANG and all that.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 24 July 2008 05:15 (fifteen years ago) link

VOTE YES ON PROP. BATMANG!

BLACK BEYONCE, Thursday, 24 July 2008 05:17 (fifteen years ago) link

ned, i think you did a very good, helpful thing and were totally respectful about it, i'm sure it was appreciated very much.

estela, Thursday, 24 July 2008 09:32 (fifteen years ago) link

GOOD MORNING

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 12:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Thanks Estela (and Sara!).

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 24 July 2008 14:23 (fifteen years ago) link

doot doot doot... so bored.

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Act like the BATMANG and beat up a clown

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:34 (fifteen years ago) link

oh there's a clown i'd like to beat alright...

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Then do not hold back

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:36 (fifteen years ago) link

I do not suggest performing the pencil trick.

HI DERE, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:52 (fifteen years ago) link

DON'T SPOIL BATMANG FOR ME! I AM PARTAKING OF IT'S VISUAL DELIGHTS ON SUNDAY!

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:56 (fifteen years ago) link

OMG THE PENCIL TRICK.

ok i say no more.

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:00 (fifteen years ago) link

One of A's student workers INSISTS that we should hire a sitter and go see Dark Knight on the IMAX screen at the zoo. Our pleas of "no money" are not good enough. "We're broke college students and WE did it!"

The worst part is I'm really starting to want to go!

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:03 (fifteen years ago) link

you should!

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:04 (fifteen years ago) link

you really really really should

HI DERE, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Do it. Fire is the ultimate cleanser...

Wait, what were we talking about?

hyggeligt, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Or is it purifier? Either way it's an extreme way to remove make up and/or rid society of evil...

hyggeligt, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

Effective too, since 'kissing' the blowtorch I need never worry about lipgloss (or lips) again! YAY!

hyggeligt, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

Would have seen it on the IMAX last night but already sold out! (This thing is making MAJOR bucks, big surprise -- it'll almost certainly be the top money-maker of the whole year by the end of the upcoming weekend, ie, took 'em ten days to make the money that Iron Man made in almost three months.)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:47 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm kind of excited to see batman. you know the other thing i love about living here? all the old movie theatres!! there are pretty much none left in nz. there were two in wellington - huge, grand ones - but they've been so over-renovated that they've lost all their charm. but i've already seen at least three really old, semi-rundown theatres in this area.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:50 (fifteen years ago) link

You people are terrible for the pocketbook, and also, apparently, the complexion.

RR, I'm envying your movie theater choices. I can stay in town and go to an old, featureless movie theater (although it will be gone in a month) or I can drive to another city and go to a huge cineplex. Nothing to get excited about.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:58 (fifteen years ago) link

My local cinema in Brighton. Those are a pair of stripy fake legs on the roof.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 24 July 2008 17:02 (fifteen years ago) link

That is really weird, and also I like it. It makes me think that Dr. Seuss characters are welcome.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 17:25 (fifteen years ago) link

GO TO BATMAN

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, how necessary is the IMAX aspect? We could probably take turns seeing it in town at matinees. (So sad to do it that way, but...)

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:11 (fifteen years ago) link

Not necessary, but the action sequences were filmed using 70mm IMAX cameras.

Worth it. It's still a great movie in a regular movie theatre. Don't let that deter you.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:20 (fifteen years ago) link

I saw I normal theater and was still awesome

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:30 (fifteen years ago) link

We're going to IMAX sometime, maybe next week, maybe in Cincy.

HI DERE, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Ha, how sad is it that I'm sitting here thinking, "hmmmmmm, if I'm going to borrow money for school from my parents, I could borrow a little *more" and go to the IMAX theater..."

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:53 (fifteen years ago) link

(Answer: it is already pathetic that I'm thinking of borrowing money for school, so really, how much lower can I sink?)

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:54 (fifteen years ago) link

hah sara, i am in your same pathetic boat. thanks a log fed gov't for screwing me over nonstop!

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:07 (fifteen years ago) link

lol thanks a *lot.

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:07 (fifteen years ago) link

I am trying to work around the "if you don't have 24 credits last year, we won't loan you money until you do" b.s. (Because it would make so much sense to take classes that I don't need - which I would also need to borrow money for - in order to borrow more money!)

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:09 (fifteen years ago) link

The money angst also allows me to continue to beat myself up for not doing this when I first thought about it. Hey, and it keeps me at odds with my mother! (She's just as encouraging as ever.) It's all good times.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:10 (fifteen years ago) link

they just dropped the interest rate on my student loans, which made me happy, until i thought of how long i have been paying them, which made me sad again.

BLACK BEYONCE, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:19 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, just talked to Financial Aid Lady, who says that the law screwing me over may "not go through" - although it "went through last year" (could she mean that it was repealed?). So, I might be okay then. It would make me really happy to not borrow money from my parents.

John - yay for the interest rate dropping at least! I dimly remember paying A.'s loans off finally... I can't remember what year that was. Anyway, the day you get them all paid off, you will be very ^_^ AND IT IS COMING

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:27 (fifteen years ago) link

i am never gonna pay mine off :( :(

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:33 (fifteen years ago) link

UNTRUE

Although I sympathize with what you're saying. Borrowing money makes my stomach hurt.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:39 (fifteen years ago) link

5 figures ugh. at least not 6.

tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:40 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm with you. I've already borrowed 21k to do this program; I have a year and a half left!

Upside: I should be able to get a decent paying job when I'm done.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:44 (fifteen years ago) link

At least that's what I keep telling myself.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:45 (fifteen years ago) link

mine is at about $32,000 (nz dollars) with something like 7%p.a. interest (it would interest free if i still lived in nz).

downside: i won't be able to get decent paying job with it.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:45 (fifteen years ago) link

Argh, I hate money.

Hang in there, though, RR - you never know about the job thing.
