Weird.

Maybe you should make an "I AM QUITTING" poster.

I've been biking everywhere this summer. It's great. I've noticed more and more bikes every year.

The greenway is expanding.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 18:26 (fifteen years ago) link

so i come back from work and he is not here. as i am taking tomorrow off (for an interview!) i may just email him if this does not get covered by 5pm. i know that's unprofessional, but so is he, and i don't want to wait any longer.

tehresa, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 19:30 (fifteen years ago) link

*come back from lunch lol

tehresa, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 19:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Can you not just keep the job until you hear back from the interview?

HI DERE, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 19:52 (fifteen years ago) link

i could... but i just don't want to be here at ALL. and want out asap.

tehresa, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Show was tight. The band was hard and fast and the music was really well-composed. Basically a string of two-minute epic songs strung together like a train. I don't know how much time I'd sit around listening to it, as far as personal tastes go, but I was very happy with the show.

Private Dancer had a really great set, too. They opened.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:01 (fifteen years ago) link

text him

lxy, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:20 (fifteen years ago) link

You could try sky-writing.

i need a job

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:34 (fifteen years ago) link

i am v v depressed about having to find one/s

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

We should re-arrange everything so that I can get a job and then I can pay you to watch my kids while I'm at work. This would save my sanity, but probably would destroy yours. Also, the commute would be kind of out of hand.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:44 (fifteen years ago) link

RR, have you started looking for work yet?

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:44 (fifteen years ago) link

rr arent u a superpro waitress? yr accent + story alone is gonna make you superlikeable + supertippable

deeznuts, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:45 (fifteen years ago) link

i wld watch yr kids, sara. i feel like i am babysitting anyway. also apparently if i try to use an apostrophe it opens the ctrl+f box?

tehresa, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:49 (fifteen years ago) link

sanity = GONE

tehresa, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:49 (fifteen years ago) link

oh man, sara, i worked in an under-5 childcare centre for almost a year - HARDEST JOB EVAH. will not do again!

i haven't really started job-hunting, just been browsing craigs list. don't even have a cv yet :( job-hunting puts fear and mad anxiety into me - i have zero skills (oh yay i can carry plates and take orders) and can't sell myself and am v v slow learner. i look at the classifieds, and i'm not just qualified for ANYTHING. and it's really upsetting to think i could be stuck in a profession that i hate for the rest of my life.

i'm thinking that it may be a good idea to get two shitty part-time jobs, instead of one shitty full-time job, as this worked out ok last time. will also give me more flexibility w/ hours and stuff. did not move all the way over here to work nights and weekends and never see my bf.

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:51 (fifteen years ago) link

i emailed a printer guy that has a studio in berkeley, who me and jordan know from the bukowski boards, and he has offered to help me if he can and let me come watch him print. i just don't think any printers are going to hire me - weak-armed girl plus hardly any experience, in an industry that is struggling financially already (even without the economic crisis).

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Going backwards -

first, definitely try to find a way to work with the printer. Your arms will get stronger, and you'll get experience.

Second - just having a job here will give you experience of some kind; money for now and references for future jobs = not a bad thing.

Third - don't worry about being stuck in a profession you hate for the rest of your life. You don't have to stay with what you start with. REALLY YOU DON'T.

Fourth - my kids are both almost over 5 (J will be 6 next month), but they will still make me crazy, it is true. I can't wait to send them back to school. (MAYBE I'M A BAD MOMMY, BUT WHEN THEY FIGHT OVER IMAGINARY STUFF, I JUST REALLY WANT TO SEND THEM AWAY)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:58 (fifteen years ago) link

tehresa, your sanity is already gone and it's only Tuesday? BAD

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 20:59 (fifteen years ago) link

i could be stuck in a profession that i hate for the rest of my life.

please. this is america WE ARE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY if i actually thought i was going to stay in this weird/boring/sometimes shitty job/profession i'd go crazy too but it's not going to happen to me and it's not going to happen to you.

jergins, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:02 (fifteen years ago) link

and yes sure looking for a job is difficult but nothing compared to visa/consulate interviews and all you've already gone through

jergins, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:17 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i guess but i have some serious weird bullshit phobia when it comes to interviews. that's why i waitressed at the same restaurant for 8 yrs.

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:25 (fifteen years ago) link

ruby just being real if you go in confident the fact that you are girl + have sweet accent is gonna give you tons of cred

were weird like that here in america

deeznuts, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:29 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah but the 'confidence' part is the part i'm sadly lacking. so embarrassing :/

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:31 (fifteen years ago) link

thats too bad cuz anyone anywhere would kill to have you as their waitress srsly

deeznuts, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:32 (fifteen years ago) link

some serious weird bullshit phobia when it comes to interviews

i totally get this, i do. maybe...practice? i don't know, there have got to be ways to conquer this. everybody's nervous when it comes to interviews.

you are girl + have sweet accent is gonna give you tons of cred

as much as it pains me to say it, deez is pretty otm here. just walk in with your nose in the air. act like the girls who wouldn't date me in high school!

jergins, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:33 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm not sure if my waitressing stylee is gonna fly all that well in this country, either

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:39 (fifteen years ago) link

????????

what is that mean rr?

have some CONFIDENCE

deeznuts, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:41 (fifteen years ago) link

i get the impression americans want their waitresses to be nicey-nice and shit, and that's not really what i'm famous for...

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:46 (fifteen years ago) link

Depends on the type of restaurant and the type of customers. The Bay Area seems like it would be the perfect place to find a not-nicey-nice waitressing job!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, I was gonna say.

Actually, RR, my sis might be able to provide you with some work leads. You up for high end supermarket work?

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:22 (fifteen years ago) link

i was a checkout chick for four years in high school, and would rather not go back to that, but i may take you up on your offer. think i'm gonna try some of the cafes round here first.

and i keep forgetting to mention: since i've been here, i've cut down to one cigarette a day. still not ready to give up entirely, but i'm working on it...

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 00:06 (fifteen years ago) link

Wow, one a day is pretty low. Especially at a stressful time. AMAZING!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 01:14 (fifteen years ago) link

good job, rr!

tehresa, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 02:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Morning all.

John - I got my hair cut in HSTNGS this morning (where I am RIGHT NOW). The lady who cuts my hair's mom is at Regina Nursing Home. I asked if she had run into your mother and my stylist RAVED about her. LOVES her. (So yeah, I think people like John's Mom)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 15:47 (fifteen years ago) link

I like John's mom know what I'm sayin'?

hyggeligt, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 16:16 (fifteen years ago) link

thats because my mom is awesome.

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 16:17 (fifteen years ago) link

that response was for sara, you cad.

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 16:18 (fifteen years ago) link

It's true about John's mom. (the nice stuff)

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 18:34 (fifteen years ago) link

She also said nice things about John's mom's hair.

(which are also true)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 18:51 (fifteen years ago) link

Next I have to go to the dentist, where no one knows anyone I know, plus they insist on unpleasantly scraping my teeth and stuff. SIGH

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 18:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Sequel to the thing I dealt with last week.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 20:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Ned, it's really interesting to read about your small part in all that, and I'm sure that Lindon's family appreciated what you did. They should! I hate to think of you agonizing over "should I have done that" last week.

I was wrong about knowing no one at the dentist's office; the lady who cleans my teeth is somehow related by marriage to one of my cousins. That sort of makes up for me needing a filling (ugh).

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 20:49 (fifteen years ago) link

man day off is so nice. interview + mani/pedi + lovely lunch + coffee + window shopping + later going to see BATMANG. i wish all days were like this, except i'd go broke very quickly.

tehresa, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 21:41 (fifteen years ago) link

Sounds awesome! I am envying!!!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 21:44 (fifteen years ago) link
