I'm kinda irrationally excited about this film. I love owls, I love how the WARRIOR OWLS look in the posters, and for some reason Lord of the Rings with owls as made by Disney sounds like THE BEST THING EVER to me. Even seeing the trailer didn't manage to kill my enthusiasm. I can't really explain these feelings.

I liked that they had stunt men from 300 fighting each other in owl suits for animator reference.

a friend of mine sent me a cellpwn pic of a giant billboard for this and i realized i know nothing about it - for some reason i thought that even tho it had owls in the title it did not actually have owls in it. but it does! and owls are great! so i want to see this.

Okay then...:

Helen Mirren says she thinks American actors are very good at voicing animated films because they approach the job with such abandon.
The Oscar-winner says British actors are more controlled and circumspect.
Because of that, Mirren says, she was a bit intimidated by her role in the animated 3D film "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," which opens today.
Part of the reason she wanted to voice the character of the evil owl Nyra was to learn to be more free.

from the pic i thought this'd be dark and gritty owls vs rats warfare or something. just looks like 'where the owl things are' to me tbh.

Too bad Christopher Nolan didn't direct this.

Y'know what? Somebody really needs to get started on some Duncton Woods movies now.

This was pretty fun. My only complaints were:

1.) the Owl City song, which wasn't egregiously bad as much as just completely out-of-place.
2.) There's a line in the trailer where someone cautions the young owls: "When you've flown as far as you can, you're halfway there!" which makes you think that it's gonna be some huge epic, LOTR questing thing. This particular journey takes a little over a minute.

Altogether though, our family thoroughly enjoyed it. Great owl vs. owl dogfighting scenes. The 3D wasn't overwhelmingly great (like How To Train Your Dragon was), but there were still some cool showpieces.

Guys, the climax of this movie featured an own setting a bucket on fire in slow motion while Dead Can Dance's "Host of the Seraphim" played.

posters for this are up in this city, saw some last night and could not stop going "owls...fucking owls...for two hours...owls!!" to my friends

things left unexplained:

-- how metal flakes can create a force field thing that traps owl's "giblets"
-- why owl racism exists
-- how come they are supposed to be active at night but are only every doing anything in golden hour
-- what moon-blanking is/why it happens
-- how owls make weapons and helmets
-- why the brother owl turned evil

No the metal flecks are a big thing in the movie. I was giggling so hard whenever the evil owls were like, "We have collected nearly enough flecks to control the world!"

Maybe this whole thing is an elaborate troll on someone...somewhere. But who?

The bad guys were driven by some sort of owl eugenics wherein barn owls are the master race, and the metal flecks give them power.

I think the whole thing is a troll on Don Bluth, if anyone...after so many years of him making movies with evil owls, giving a whole movie about evil owls and very very obvious Pure of Heart Goodness themes to Zach Snyder.

So wrong, to do that to the great man.

I predict that this will be the better than any other movie that Zach Snyder has made to this point...
